ddickinson: I'm sorry to hear that, but I am glad there is nothing wrong with his heart, as you know, that was what my father was just in hospital with. Did they say why they have not done an x-ray yet? I'm not sure how things work in the US, but can you not ask for another doctor, one that will have your fathers best interests at heart?
I don't think they've even considered that he might need an x-ray yet, since they're still trying to figure out why various pain meds (percocet, ibuprofen, a couple others) don't seem to be doing any good. The only thing that has worked at all so far is, naturally, morphine.

thelostdunmer: So success in life is now measured by material wealth and influence?

Damn it! All my life my mother has been comparing me to other people specially those that are now rich and have material wealth.

What I don't understand is I'm Catholic and we're supposed to live a modest life, not that rich, not that poor.

However, being raised in a purely Catholic family it seems is no longer the same like the old days.

She breaks my heart every time she does this and this is the reason why I don't go home for the holidays that often.

I have confidence issues and this really brings me to the point of finishing everything, if you know what I mean.
Hang in there. It's difficult when your mother criticizes. Try to think of things that are in your power to do that have a chance of bettering your relationship with her.

But above all do not let her bad behavior ruin your life.

Cheers.

I am sorry to hear he is not doing any better. Dr. are a piece of work. As you know with my issues with mom. You need to make your voice heard and ask for specialist and other Dr.s as well. I am very surprised they have not done any X-rays at all considering he came in after a fall. I have never heard that they can not be done while sedated either. As many car crash victims are sedated and taken to X-ray. With mom it was the first thing they did was wheel a X-ray machine in to the ER room because of the pain she was in. My thought are with you and your dad. Stay strong and ask questions and keep on their asses.

Just to clarify this since it was missed:No x-rays have been done since he was first brought in and my worry is that the chest pain is caused by a cracked rib that they didn't' see before since they didn't x-ray that part of his body.

I should have said:He was taken to the hospital the day he fell, got x-rayed, and then discharged the next day since they saw no breaks and at the time his pain was chalked up to a bruised spine(yes, I am aware of how ridiculous that comes across "oh it's just a bruise on his arthritic, septuagenarian spinal column, send him home!") and my mom called for an ambulance to take him back not two full days later. The man couldn't lay down in a bed to sleep and was trying to stoically suffer through it all. He's had a host of health issues ever since he hit a certain age and especially since he retired 5 years ago.

Demand a x-ray now. That is what I meant. He needs one and its easy to do. Im not sure why they wont do it!

Mom was in so much pain she was yelling and fighting and they were able to do it with her.

JudasIscariot: Ahh so that's where we put that extra snow :D
You wouldn't mind removing the extra snow from my country? :-)

Also to the guys above: German doctors are the same kind of idiots mostly. They just don't give a four letter word. You are a patient to them, something to work quickly through, not a human.

As im also trough this already two times with relatives:
Never trust ONE doctor if it gets not better. Go to a second or third.
These people in white are just humans and errare humanum est.
Honestly to me after some happenings in the past, its better to read up in the net about the area of disease and ask then some questions to the "Gods in white". Afterwards they think more about a human in front instead of
"number 68 for today on the list". - ps: X-ray ist not the only thing to check, if soft parts instead of bones are a problem a Tomographie would be also an idea.

Someone say snow? :D I've only got about 120 inches here so far. :P
1. I fucking told my parents not to send any gifts this year because i hate them for ruining my childhood but they still sent a fucking parcel with nice stuff i could really use.
I cant send it back because it would hurt them a lot, also its nice stuff....

2. The sexlife in my relationship is dead. It is driving me insane. Most people in a relationship i speak to have the same problem but they dont really care!!!! WHY? Is it so unimportant you idiots? Am i the only one expecting more of life in the mid 20ties?
I finnally got my girlfriend to start therapy but i feel bad for driving her into this - i feel like im stuck in that fucking Woody Allen movie "Annie Hall".

Look up "Woody Allen meets Marshall McLuhan" on youtube

Soccorro: I'm so sorry to read that. I'm hoping for the best outcome possible.
thanks again for all the concern and sympathy, it means a lot to come on here and see that. This morning the doc tried once more to discharge him, so he waited for hours and hours, not being told anything more this entire time, my mom and I looking up home-care options and me wanting to go hunt this idiot doctor down... until finally the physical therapist came by to try to evaluate my dad. He got him to sit up for a few minutes without extreme pain but he also said "Yeah there's no way you're going home, in fact you should be looking into rehab facilities" so as of now that's the deal. He's still there at the hospital overnight thankfully, but of course rehab costs out-of-pocket since the greedy, worthless, elitist snobs who run this country (and the poor sods who don't know any better what is best for themselves or their fellow human beings) won't grant universal healthcare reform, not even to reform our badly underfunded and stretched social security. My father worked his entire life, he's supposed to be able to retire in peace.

Ragnarblackmane: snip
I sent you over some pms.

I hope they are able to find something out before going to rehab. Rehab is wonderful and there are doctors there. However, you barely see them and they do not look for anything. The rehab basically deals with therapy and keeping your loved ones comfortable and supervised.
My father-in-law was supposed to come home this afternoon from the hospital. It's the second time in three weeks he's been in for an infection in his foot. He's diabetic. He's been on Iv antibiotics since New Year's Eve. They got him prepped to go, I went up to get him, and the podiatrist got a look at his second MRI and decided to keep him longer: the infection in the bone is worse than they realized. Tomorrow the doctor will be there to talk to him about options; from what the GP said, this could range from a longer stay with more antibiotics to more surgery to amputation.

I'm glad I was there when he got the news tonight, and I know they're looking at worst case scenarios, but needless to say, my husband and I are pretty stressed right now.

Pen, I am very sorry to hear about your Father- in law. My thoughts are with you and your family. I hope they are able to treat it without any major surgery. And its a good thing they caught it before sending him home and it getting worse with out anyone noticing. Please know I am here for you if you need anything at all.

This seemed to happen quickly, as these things often do, very sorry to read that and I sincerely hope that the antiobiotics+longer stay ends up being the option chosen!
