I thought NAFTA was supposed to make commercial shipments simpler, from one North American country to another. Ha! Customer sends me a PO for 2x of a $25 part (Typical Canadian customer: "Can you discount that for me?" Fuck me running - I'm already at half the price of the only other source for this part. That's not a big enough discount? Shall I drive up there and make you lunch, too?) The PO says:

"Must use broker: FEDEX Trade Network.
Send Canada Customs Invoice, Bill of Lading, Commercial Invoice, and NAFTA Certificate to FEDEX Trade Network."

The kicker:

"Send by mail or by cheapest means".

Given that I'm going to spend over an hour doing the paperwork for this, the cheapest means is to drop the shit off at The UPS Store or FEDEX and let those poor bastards figure it out. The customer will bitch about the extra $6, I'm sure. Hell, they bitched that I used FEDEX last time. "Well, your PO said to use the FEDEX Trade Network so I shipped via FEDEX. I'm not sure how I'm supposed to use the FEDEX Trade Network without shipping via FEDEX..."

Normally I'm all about customer service - really - but it doesn't make any sense to jump through hoops to lose money and time on a $50 sale where I'd normally make about $10. I know some here will toss out the "stupid greedy business" flag, but I'm not turning a $10 profit into a much larger loss for a customer that orders $100 worth of stuff every other year.

Anyway, wasn't NAFTA supposed to mean that it wouldn't really be any different shipping from within the country or shipping out of the country? I see that turned out well. All the more irritating since the parts are customs-exempt. Why can I not simply slap a label on the box and dump it off at the local drop-point? Gawd - I did that one time and the fires of Canadian Hell fell down all around me. The really dumb thing? The paperwork doesn't go with the package. The people doing the paperwork never even SEE the package. They're not even co-located with the actual material-handling folks: package - with the paperwork attached to it - was stuck near Montreal and I was getting bitched at by someone in Toronto. Say what?

Bought a game, DRM-free and all. Got the game installed, played. Fast forward a year, HDD changes, forgot to back-up installer, the receipt got deleted when cleaning up the mail some months ago.

No game, no installer, no way to prove I bought the game.

It's mostly the few huge media publishers we have, who don't want to accept, that their former business models don't fit into nowadays Internet very well. They're completely unimaginative and struggle by enforcing restrictions. Same goes for the GEMA. Except of inactivity, the government isn't too much to blame (unlike China).

At least now every household has to pay this fee instead of just the few ones that are honest enough to admit to having a TV, radio and/or computer.

Just found out the girl I have a crush on is now with someone else. Even if she was way out of my league, then the fact she now has a boyfriend means I can't have those little sweet romantic daydreams about here that you have when you are single because it feels weird now.
