FooAtari: It's Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma PTLD (Post Transplant Lymphopliferative Disorder).

It basically develops from the immunospressive drugs you need to take after a transplant. In most cases if it happens, it happens after a couple of years of the transplant. And they now have preventatie drugs patients get immidieatly after the transplant. I got it 14 years after the transplant which is very unusual. Also didn't really know about the condition at the time of my transplant so was no preventative drugs.

I don't need an operation (wish it were that easy, had four major operations so doesn't bother me), being a blood cancer not much to remove. Although I did need to have my spleen removed once it had grown to the size of a rugby ball last year. This seems to be where the Lymphoma originated as I understand it and how it was diagnosed.

I don't intend on ever giving up but this type of Lymphoma is hard to treat. The first type of chemo I had did not work and it is the main treatment for the type of Lymphoma that I have. I have a high level aggressive Lymphoma and when that treatment doesn't work it means it's going to be difficult to cure. The docotors have already discussed with me methods to hold it at bay as long as possible rather than cure it. I'll know in a couple of weeks if it's curable or not.

I have been keeping a blog about it all, and the first post explains my medical history until preent day if anyone is interested

Stay strong brother. I couldn't even imagine going through what all you've dealt with.
I got fuc**d by the työvoimatoimisto (unemployment centre of sorts), they didn't inform KELA that I'm eligible to get money from them until my studies start. They effectively managed to ruin my finances, since I barely managed to pay the rent.

I went there today, "slightly" steaming, and asked what was the matter. It turns out, that the worker whom I met few weeks ago forgot to inform the KELA about it. They promised to resolve the matter, but we'll see...

Nice :)

Poor Knee

Perhaps you for comfort needs to listen to Redbones "Wounded Knee" : -)

In 1973 Redbone released the politically oriented "We Were All Wounded at Wounded Knee", recalling the massacre of Lakota Sioux Indians by the Seventh Cavalry in 1890. The song ends with the subtly altered sentence "We were all wounded 'by' Wounded Knee". The song reached the #1 chart position in Europe but did not chart in the U.S. where it was initially withheld from release and then banned by several radio stations.

That's a bunch of gov't BS, imo. Besides, it's only poisonous if you ingest too much in a given period. As in miniscule amounts every so often, not large doses every hour.

The very first message in this thread made me chuckle, mainly because back when I entered into a relationship with my ex-wife, she also happened to have a penpal from Australia who seemed to have a crush on her (they never met AFAIK). Oh well, she is available now in case anyone's still interested down under...

My bitch of today: someone's definitely stealing milk from me from our workplace refrigerator (I use it for my coffee). When I noticed someone is using my milk, I wrote a "Don't touch!" message in red all over the milk carton and tried to keep the carton at the back so that no-one takes it "accidentally", but that doesn't seem to be stopping the thief or thieves.

Next step might a big "Hello!"-sticker on the refrigerator door, but that would make me look like a pedantic a-hole, and people wouldn't love me anymore.

Maybe I'll start using the fridge in another floor, maybe they don't have milk thieves there. Or then I buy some locking box to keep the carton inside, but that would also make me look bad.

Hey, if game publishers are allowed to put DRM into their games, I should also have the right to protect my milk from unscrupulous suckers!

Usually vitamin D is alleged to prevent (or maybe even cure) many types of cancer, but who knows for sure.

http://www.google.fi/#hl=fi&source=hp&q=%22vitamin+d%22+cancer&oq=%22vitamin+d%22+cancer&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&gs_sm=e&gs_upl=861l6599l0l6709l20l20l1l18l0l0l350l350l3-1l1l0&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.&fp=4d34366cc9b3741a&biw=1121&bih=617

Not overdosing, but at least making sure you get enough vitamin D, which can be a problem unless you live in a warm country with lots of sunshine whole year.

Googling the same, but "B12" instead of "D" seems to suggest to increase in risk of cancer. Go figure. :)

Put some apple juice (or something else nasty-in-coffee stuff) in a milk carton and place it in the fridge. I have noticed that very few people actually look inside those things.

Probably won't solve anything, but at least there'd be a chance that everyone gets annoyed :p

Supposedly yes D vitamins from sun exposure decrease cancer risk.....some hypothesize that lack of sun exposure due to sunscreen overuse/sitting inside alot for some can increase cancer risk.

So just go outside more, and wear lower(but not 0) SPF sunblock.

Hmmm, I've heared of B17 in relation to cancer. Being in the UK and using the NHS I would say the pharmaceutical business isn't as big as it is in the US. I've read from various people who beleive a treatment like that isn't used or promoted, so that pharmaceuticals can continue to sell their expensive medications.

Well the NHS being what it is, if there was a way to treat cancer more effectivly in both increasing survival rates and costs I'm pretty damn sure they would be using it. Or at the very least supplementing chemo with it.

I mean, sure it MIGHT work with some cancers if your lucky (is there actual medical evidence to back it up) but it isn't going to work with them all, as the difference between various forms of cancer can be pretty big.

Lionel212008: Well here's the problem coz I did ask my girl...She didn't seem all that happy about me shaving my head off. Maybe I am fretting over this a little too much as it's not very noticeable. I"ll get a crew cut though coz it would enable minoxidil to be more effective.....
She wasn't happy about it?? If my wife gave me that reponse under the circumstances would have been some strong words. To be frank, the hair thing shouldn't be a big deal and there are far more important things to try and deal with when you get an illness like this. The important thing is getting better.

Do whatever your comfterable with, I would hope your girlfriend would be understanding and totally support you.

I read your post and I think your situation is 'pretty fucked up'....I am not going to say that I understand because that would be pretentious and it is difficult for me to even begin to imagine what you have been through.Don't give up yet though....I really do hope that things better for you .
Who said anything about giving up :) Thanks

Where I live (about as far north as Anchorage in Alaska, albeit probably considerably warmer than in Anchorage), that is a good suggestion only from about May to early September, or so. Outside that, at least I take D-vitamin supplements daily.

BTW, I don't normally use sunblock at all, not even last time (in April-May) I was on vacation in SE Asia for one month. I just made sure I am not too long times in the sun exposed.
