kokosabre: Well.. 30mins after release there are already torrents of the game... So I wonder how exactly the drm-free version will increase the piracy of their product...
lol oh the irony. I love it.
the pirates enjoy it drmfree the moment it was released on ssteam.

Someone should send links to the Stoic devs and ask them if they think they should avoid releasing on Steam for the next installment. Because, you know, piracy.

Waiting for them to try uplay or origin.
Although Stoic seems firm on never allowing Episodes 2, I still voted for it on the Community Wishlist. It currently only has 73 Votes. I'm hoping if it gets enough backing, GOG might step in and negotiate/encourage Stoic to create a DRM free release.

Example: GOG team: "We know you are worried about the piracy, but according to our Community Wishlist, we have X many people who want it. We can't prevent the Piracy, but at least we can provide you with potentially X many buyers who do not yet own it else where."

Hate to break it to you, but Banner Saga 2 is on Origin. Check it out.

Well, seems like it's not only on Origin then, but also on UPlay. Basically, it's everywhere but here. Awesome.
It's funny and sad to me how GOG constantly gets treated like the red headed step child of the gaming world. What doesn't kill us makes us stronger. One day the abused and ignored little brother rises up... to conquer Ze world!

Perhaps Banner Saga 2 will become a 'classic' in about 7 or 8 years, and then finally... after we're at the point of downloading entire data networks into matrix-brain-jacks, we can enjoy the 'classic gaming' of Banner Saga 2 in DRM-free fashion.

Banner Saga 2 Collectors Edition is coming to GOG... April 19th, 2027. Get your neural-gamenet season pass now. *Beep* *modem sound* *click*

In theory nice, but it has two problems:

1) Wishlist entries does not directly translate into sales. Even the wording is not strong enough to enforce this ("all the things you would love to see on GOG.com"). There are too many example of comments in the vein of "I would not buy this game myself, but I can see others would so I voted".

2) You imply that everyone voting in the wishlist would only buy from gOg. While there is a core group who only buy from gOg ("no gOg, no sale" :)), this is far from the majority, and most users use other stores also. So when you say "who do not yet own it else where", it is probably not the case for many gOg users.
I swear some companies are just stupid. The sad part is as a small indie company they probably don't have suits breathing down their neck either which means there stupid decisions are their own.

It's rather comical in a way that the thing they feared the most happen right after release and now GOG can't be their escape goat this time...
I was incredibly excited for this game... till now. This is very disappointing, it's like the studio barely knows how piracy works, or why people do it.
Perhaps the issue is they want folks to be as connected as possible to allow them to loop you into their multiplayer etc.

They strike me as a group that will be big on analytics so having folks online for one is a big win then if you are playing multiplayer they can catch you with multiplayer DLC netting more cash. Basically they are doing this to maximise the value of each sale and they view sales on DRM-free platforms as a problem as the game is less likely to be online. I mean who cares about pissing off backers like me.

I have no idea if my conspiracy theory holds any water but they just seem utterly indifferent to the issue talking to them results in the kind of statements you see politicians make when they got caught doing something they are supposedly ideologically opposed to, and possibly illegal. That is to say PR gibberish.

Well, you could do as I did:

1. Report them to the Kickstarter and the Better Business Bureau (as mentioned, I wrote a guide)

2. Put both Stoic studio and the names and photos from their bio page (Arnie Jorgensen, John Watson, Drew McGee) on your "toxic individuals/companies" list so you never back or buy anything they've been involved in again. (You do have such a list, right?)

3. If you do see them show up in another project, be sure to tell potential customers about how they screwed you over in one of their previous projects.
