Did you hear? Neverwinter Nights Diamond is FREE for the next 48 hours! It's the game that first introduced Bioware's powerful Aurora Engine and is still considered one of the most rich and well-realized RPGs set in the Forgotten Realms. The Diamond edition already includes the original campaign plus three official expansions released by Bioware, offering hours upon hours of old-school gameplay for D&D fans.

What you may not have heard, is that thanks to the versatility of the Aurora Engine and the game's devoted community, there are tons of cool fan-made mods out there that you can download and enjoy for free. Some take you to entirely different areas, some offer thrilling new adventures, some tweak the game's feel or gameplay, but they all serve to add incredible value to the game and help you customize or prolong your stay in Neverwinter Nights.

Here are some of our favorites:

1. The Aielund Saga
A truly epic adventure full of twists and turns set in the troubled Kingdom of Aielund that is under attack both from outside and inside forces.
Our own member Lilura has a very neat guide on how to get this mod up and running.

2. Elegia Eternum
Narrative-focused mod with a rather somber, occasionally twisted story and esoteric ambiance. A bit on the short side but with a lasting effect, due to the intense drama.
You can grab it from here.

3. The Rose of Eternity
Another story-heavy module that tells the heart-wrenching story of a timeless being, held prisoner in a mystical garden. The first two chapters are available over here with the creator moving on to the Dragon Age engine for the story's conclusion.

4. The Bastard of Kosigan
A gritty adventure set in an alternate history medieval Europe, starring a young man who exiles himself from Kosigan to avoid his villainous uncle.
Lilura once again has posted some pretty useful instructions on how to use this mod.

But these are just a handful of top shelf mods for Neverwinter Nights Diamond in a sea of great content that's just begging to be explored. And who better to help you navigate it than our awesome GOG.com community?
So those among you who have already played and enjoyed some of the high-quality mods out there, go ahead and share your best finds with us!

Neverwinter Nights Diamond is free until December 3, 10:59 AM UTC.

tfishell: Thanks so much for the free game GOG. :) I won't be playing it due to time but I do want to show gratitude for your generosity.

Why aren't the missing premium modules available as part of the package though, for those interested? (I assume legal issues of some kind.)

I'm pretty sure it's legal issues, but I'd love GOG to clarify.

Black Thorn by El Dano
This is an excellent detective mystery with great replay value due to the multiple endings.

In order to run them, you most likely will need a third party tool of some kind like this one.

TVs_Frank: Wonder if our campaigns from that NWN contest are still out there.
Here you go! :)

BadDecissions: I tried the main game, but it was super dull. Maybe it's time to see if any of these stack up better.
How I got into NWN:

- Tried to play the main campaign.
- Got bored early on in Chapter One.
- Tried some community modules instead (started with short ones, then moved on to epic series)
- Ended up dedicating three years of my life to the game, playing 100+ custom SP modules, meeting people online on Persistent Worlds and playing co-op with them, hanging out in the NWN forums, chatting and helping out others.

Also, Hordes of the Underdark was the first official campaign I managed to play through, and I think it's the best one. Later on, I gave the main campaign another chance as well, eventually finishing it, but I still thought it sucked. I haven't ever completed Shadows of Undrentide so far.

I guess you won't make the same experience as me (that was in 2007, and you probably have better things to do with your time ;)), just know that you're not alone in disliking the main campaign, and that it says nothing about the fun you can have with the game in general yet.

The missing Premium Modules are not sold anymore, and it seems unclear who owns the rights to them. In any case, apparantly no publisher feels responsible for bringing them back on the market. Free downloads from other sites have never been officially sanctioned either. The publishers just ignore everything connected to this issue, but be aware that it's abandonware in the best case and not really legal.

Anyway, I think it hasn't been mentioned yet, but there actually is an older thread with module recommendations in the subforum, too. See here.

And that reminds me, I forgot to mention Revenant! Which is another great dark and atmospheric module, with several Choices & Consequences (including evil ones, if you prefer.)

Thank you. I still have this game on the original discs, but it's always convenient to have a neatly packaged installer with copy protection already removed.
Big thanks to everyone here for your contributions to this thread, and to GOG for the 1.12.2016 promo image the other day :)

I recall talk here some time ago of the resurrection of the NWVault, but somehow thought it unlikely to come to fruitiion.

Shall raise a beer or two tomorrow night in celebration.
Just want to say thanks to all those who have listed mods.

I've completed NWN 1 (yes, it's quite dull) and the two expansions, which were much more enjoyable. I'm planning to start dipping my feet into the world of modules, so this thread is a great source of info.
Incredible that it's free atm.
My discs got thrown out a few years ago and I've missed this game, I look forward to trying out some of these mods. I don't remember there being 3 expansions tho. Shadows of Undrentide and Hordes of the Underdark (one of the best campaigns ever :) ) I had.

Infinite Dungeons is quite fun, the dungeon changes each time you enter it, I normally play this, with a self imposed perma-death rule, makes a great dungeon crawler

They were Premium Modules, thus not full add-ons.

It's a shame really; Infinite Dungeons was a very neat idea, sort of a roguelike freeform module for NWN. And Pirates of the Sword Coast was my favourite of all the Premium Modules, very original setting and characters.

It's worth mentioning that you do have access to a Premium Module not in the Diamond edition: Darkness Over Daggerford, by Ossian Studios, was going to be the last released PM and due to several reasons it ended up being released to the community for free. You must check it out, it's an incredibly professional and outstanding work:

This was the tragedy of Neverwinter Nights. It got mixed reviews at release mainly due to the main campaign being one of the most unimaginative and cliche-ridden stories ever told.

You should look at the campaign as sort of a very long tech-demo; assuming you still have an interest in knowing what is NWN really about, here's my advice: get one of those recommended modules, a LAN and a couple friends, and you will have one hell of a time.
high rated
Regarding Premium mods status: they were available for download from Bioware site some time ago, might still be available there, but I don't have the links on hand.

Regarding 'unoffical' modules you, new adventurers, might find these maps useful. Their names -self-explanatory.

This is so nice! I missed the NWN Diamond sale last time around, so getting it for free is godlike! I got the game + all the expansions at release, but it is nice to have the digital version of the game now.
I don't remember these. Were they made relatively recently?
