This game was meant to be the first part of a trillogy, was funded via kickstarter and I personnaly enjoyed its style of gameplay, visuals and storytelling a lot. But it doesn´t look like the other two parts will ever see the light of day:

@Radon
Sadly there won't be a episode 2 any time soon. The game is selling steadily when we go on sale, but nor particularly well. We've nearly recouped the money we put in ourselves to make it.

We've all got different jobs now in different cities. Never say never, we'd still like to, but for now the idea is resting.

Good to know. It's been on my "kind of interested" list for a long time. I very nearly bought it last time it was on sale.

This drops it down to my "only if it's super cheap" list.
I have not played it (or bought it) yet, but it's on my wishlist. Does this mean the game is "incomplete" without the other two installments, or is it fine standalone, and it's just unlikely that sequels will ever happen? Because those are two vastly different situations.

It is a fine standalone gameplaywise and it´s not like a "cliffhanger"-ending, but at the same time definitly no "story complete"-ending either.

Edit:
Think of no Part II and III for BannerSaga. BannerSaga I would still have been a game that works, but the letdowns are crystal-clear nevertheless...

Sequel ?
I'm the writer on the game, and I was satisfied that if we never had the chance to make a sequel, that the game works as a stand alone story.
I like it, so I'd say buy it. I still need to finish the last level actually.

Better than EITR. At least this one got a release.

What do you mean. Did I miss something and EITR has been abandoned?
Thanks for the heads-up. This is one of the reasons why I prefer to wait for games to become complete packages, stable with all critical fixes and all planned DLCs available (maybe even included).

Then again, maybe this first episode is good on its own, I wouldn't know. Or does it end in a cliffhanger like this, where you will be just craving for more and can't rest until you've seen how it continues?

(Too bad they never apparently released a true sequel to that movie that would have revealed the continuation, my understanding is that the official sequel has a totally separate plot, and it is some odd chop-socky martial arts movie in the jungles of Cambodia or something?)

Not surprising, it looks remarkably bland.

Feels like it sometimes.

Honestly, considering how much of a let down BannerSaga two was I'm not sure that would have been a bad thing.

It's a shame this one hasn't sold that well, but like many others (and many other games) I'm in the waiting till it gets cheap boat... You have to wonder how much more successful some of these small indie games might be if they started off at cheaper prices...

I'm not too bothered about it being incomplete, I'd still play it but it is a shame the developers won't have a chance to finish their idea (also why you should never seriously plan for more than one instalment, be it book, tv show, movie or game, unless it's all been funded in advance).

Compared to the first game it's awful. The story is really poor, the decisions never felt like they had any weight, the combat was still fun but because your characters all started quite levelled up it wasn't quite as interesting as the first one.
I'm hoping the third one rescues the series some what but I'm not holding out a lot of hope (I'll still play it mind)

Well, this sounds like a total different experience then the one I had. For me, BannerSaga II was one of the closest sequals I´ve ever played. Look up my review on the gamepage if you want to go into detail...
(but if yes, we should probably continue that discussion over at BannerSagaSubforum)

Each to their own, I just felt like they completely wasted the potential of the first game and wasn't all that impressed with it.
