TBH tablets are ok but they can't replace a well built PC they just don't have the memory or the storage capability let alone the ability to store files external without wifi support.if your set on a tablet do some serious research, you might find a laptop in your price range that can be more versatile.

I use the ios system, I have a very good virus protection in the machine.

Tablet taking a bundy

HunchBluntley: ...What the fuck? =D
Taking a bundy is slang in the high school I'm from, for taking a shit.

...I'm guessing that must be pretty specific to that town or area, then (if not that specific high school), because that's not among the dozens of euphemisms for pooping that I've ever heard. :D
Are there any tablets you can lock down and put back under your own control without lots of fuss or are they all doomed to spam your info everywhere and be altered whenever somethings feels like updating itself?

The school is in an isolated part of Ohio. ;)

I'm pretty sure Ohio, overall, has a much higher population density than the region I'm from. :)
(Sorry, Leucius, I'll stop derailing now. =) )

All good.

I almost got an 8 inch Kindle Fire HD for $50 yesterday, but I decided I wanted the Zero Escape collection more. Gamestop had a buy 2 get 1 free thing for pre owned games, so I got Mario & Luigi: Dream Team, Virtue's Last Reward, and Zero Time Dilemma for $30 and saved $20 over buying the tablet.

Going to try a factory reset on my current one and dust it as much as possible. It's unbearably slow on boot, but once it gets going it's ok. If I can make it last till Christmas or Tax Season, I'll be happy.
UPDATE:

I did a complete factory wipe. The tablet is still slow, but it's much better than it has been in some time. I fixed the button, even managed to get it back in its carrying case and working (for the most part) again.

Gameplan is if I get any amazon gift cards for Christmas, I'll get a Fire HD tablet. I don't have the money nor the willpower to buy something that's $200+ when I use it primarily for reading and occasional tablet games. With the Fire HD being able to install Google Play, there's no reason to spend more.

If I don't get any amazon cards, I am just going to skip buying a tablet this holiday season, and either wait for my tax return, or just use the current one till it finally completely dies.

Just a heads up in case anyone came to this forum regarding this thread, I got an 8" Fire HD tablet at Christmas for $50 - it's normally $80 for the model I got.

It performs way better than the ASUS MeMO and it does everything I ask it to do. I was going to sell the ASUS, because I got it working again, but I gave it to a coworker for their teen.

A good, cheap alternative to an expensive tablet is the Fire HD. It's really quite good, I can leave it on and the battery lasts 4-5 days minimum before recharging, provided I'm not watching Netflix on it. My ASUS lasted a day, maybe a day and a half.

Thanks for all the advice in this thread.

I wanted to give it a couple months with the new tablet before posting. Also, a note: You CAN install the google play store, so you can use your google apps on a Fire tablet WITHOUT JAILBREAKING OR ROOTING IT.

I was going to mention the Fire HD, however; it was not clear what you use your tablet for. I use my Fire for surfing, netflix, and some light gaming, on the sofa.. Nice to have sports on the tv with a tablet in hand when laying down.

Glad you are liking it thus far.

Thanks :) It is the best "cheap" tablet I've ever used.
I have a Fire tablet; I basically use it to watch video and occasionally running programmes. I wouldn't bother buying anything more expensive; it has all the compute power I need when I can't access my laptop or desktop.

My main concern is that they tend to just be big phones. I would rather opt in for a windows tablet so I could at least access software and things like a normal computer. The https://smile.amazon.com/RCA-Notebook-Storage-Processor-Keyboard/dp/B077WTB2LY/ seems to be the only viable option for that at the moment though at $40+ more.
