Alaric.us: They told me they have plans to fix it.
And I don't doubt they did. They've been saying that a lot over the years. But they never delivered so far, that's why everyone is telling you not to get your hopes up.

zeogold: The only person who had posts deleted was Tauto. And we all know why that was.
No, no, no. The only person who had posts deleted that we know of was Tauto.

Well and me.

Why do we know this? Because Tauto is relentless, and I'm not quite as relentless but somewhat prone to automate.

Those who may have their threads deleted and did not posess either of those qualities are effectively banned. Which is why you don't hear from them. You also don't hear too many executed people complain. On the account of, you know, them having been executed.

They do not have a PHP programmer.
It will not be fixed.
Assuming that fixing people's ability to spam-report stuff out of existence means removing the ability to do so, how is the community supposed to defend itself against a barrage of actual spam? Until we're absolutely sure that there are blues who are going to be present enough to take care of that stuff when it pops up instead of ignoring the situation like they did during the great spam wars, couldn't trying to force a change potentially leave us toothless against that kind of thing?

I mean, I understand the intent here. Posts have definitely been removed because of who wrote them, even relatively innocuous ones. It just seems like this could potentially backfire if not balanced out by something else, and a 3-month deadline doesn't inspire a great deal of confidence that they'd be able to put something else in place.

Crewdroog: Yes, I don't know all the drama behind all this, but it is still my opinion, which i'm allowed to have, that I think the spam deleting needs to stop.
Fair enough. I wasn't sure if you were aware of the backstory behind it or not.

Honestly, I just don't care anymore.

In my paper outlining the problems and potential solutions I propose the means of preventing automated spam attacks.

adaliabooks: Alric. Will you promise that you are not in anyway behind the deletion of your threads?
Because right now your the only one on the forum I think has the capability of doing what you say is being done.
I don't really think this is the case, because I'm fairly sure from the pattern of how your threads are deleted that it's not automated, but I think it's a question that deserves asking.
avatar
Alaric.us: I have not deleted a single thread on this forum. Neither my own nor anyone else's.

But since I can't prove a negative, there will be people who'll claim otherwise.

As to the capability, I think you just might be more qualified than me.
I'm flattered, but I'm not qualified in the least.
I'm not an IT professional, I'm at best a talented amateur.

Sure, I probably could do it given enough time and motivation, but I don't have either. I'll admit that since you've raised the issue I've looked into what is possible but haven't come anywhere near to being able to do the things you say should be possible.

But I believe you.

She's ruining the place because of an opinion?

Can we please stop turning this into some sort of political war?
"Your opinion is ruining our beloved country!"

What about the non-automated ones? I remember awhile back, some user got mad about something GOG did and flooded General Discussion with several pages of the same thread. Don't think they were using a script so much as they were merely angry enough to repost the same thing repeatedly.

Ah, yes, I forgot. Disagreeing with you = trolling. What a wonderfully simple world you must live in.

She's supporting a guy who repeatedly, publicly stated his willingness to destroy the forum with means at his disposal if he doesn't get his way, and to share those means with know trolls. Yes, That is helping to ruin the place, as clear as daylight. I have no idea how more obvious could it be.

ZFR: Just to be clear: I agree with Alric's "my thread that gets deleted" spam campaign being justified, and not with his "share with everyone".

I'm hoping GOG do pull their stuff together and just get this fixed.
And that's fine, but I still think the spam campaign and publicising the possibility is what will lead to abuse of the function. It's not as full on as sharing the codes, but it's the first step to someone else abusing it.

Me too. But I really have my doubts.
Johny used to frequent the forums and be fairly active in the what just broke thread, guess where he posts most now?
Galaxy thread.
Where all of Gog's developers are.
Do you not think if Gog had the capability and the desire to fix this they would have already?

I can see this ending two ways:
alric releases the scripts and the current down voting and name calling turns into mass thread and comment deletion and the forum basically dies.
Or Gog closes the forum entirely and replaces it with a blog for new releases and news announcements where people can comment.

Sure, it getting fixed is a possibility, but it's a slim one.

That's what JerkMuter is trying to do and she is encouraging/supporting the piece of shit that is pushing it on everyone.

You want to clean this place, you get rid of the fuckheads like that, you don't come in and say, "Hey GOG, thanks for helping him out! Now he'll be able to work on his updating his script and fuck this place up even more. He's even promised Tauto a special SPAM DELETE script which he'll actually be able to give him now because instead of kicking him you sucked his dick and let him flourish in here. My undying appreciation!"

Well, that's a full-time position. But I reckon a few of the coders who are now working on Galaxy were formally site programmers. I can't believe there's nobody left on Gog with no knowledge of how their own forum works.
