I know how you feel mate :/
Lol, now it's 590 (yesterday was 594).

GOG, we need a seruious fix for this thing. Rep isn't too important, but when you see those people abusing the system like this...it's very depressive.
My B-day is on Friday so I'll prolly try and get a giveaway up as soon as I can. This is just a heads up to maybe keep an eye out.

This has been going on for some time now. Especially in the gift thread, someone (maybe someone who was skipped in a gifting sequence?) has been zealously down repping anyone who requests certain games. I also saw it here on this thread (I may even get down repped for saying this now lol).

I gave up looking at the rep thing once my rep started going down after making giveaways for some games I had purchased from amazon but ended up buying again when they were in bundles. I was giving away the amazon keys but perhaps someone felt humble bundle was getting ripped off(?), I do not know. Anyway, my reps goes down each day and I have come to accept that.
Perhaps the rep system could be weighted in such a way where by people who click on rep more frequently than the average person by some margin have a lower weight (or no weight) in calculating a rep score increase or decrease. And if it is above a particular threshhold perhaps it lowers their own score if the software can detect what appears to be abuses algorithmically.

Doesn't really concern me though, rep is only useful for a small number of giveaways on the site and not much else and I rarely enter many giveaways these days anyway due to a larger game backlog. Others might use rep for determining who to trade or not trade with or similar things too but even then it doesn't carry much weight IMHO. I think people put too much thought/concern into forum rep than it actually matters. In the few cases where rep might actually matter, there is "rep" and there is one's actual reputation on the website and across the Internet in general, and anyone who has been around here long enough and participates is well known enough to other regulars in such a way that people are more likely to judge them based on their actual real world reputation and past deeds than on the arbitrary gameable GOG rep score. For example, Momo1991 is well known here to be a very generous gift giver and positive contributor to the general good of the forums and community. If someone were to try and abuse the system for whatever reason to harm Momo's rep score, it would affect exactly zero of our collective opinions/viewpoints about Momo with regards to trading/gifting or anything else that matters.

Those who have a good reputation here have it in people's minds and some arbitrary number doesn't have any effect on it. If someone has a good reputation here and wakes up tomorrow with a -400 rep score here, people who know them and their reputation will ignore the rep score and/or make acceptions to giveaway rules or other things where rep might be used partially.

GOG is revamping the website this year allegedly and I wont be surprised at all if they completely ditch the broken forum rep system as it is rather useless as-is.

Well you are right on one hand (just lost 3 rep points in the last three hours - just thought I'd point that out), so apparently someone doesn't like how much I give - either in games or emotional investment in the amazing forum members here. Oh the other hand, it isn't going to change how I am. As Oscar Wilde said "Be yourself. Everyone else is taken."

What it does do though, is engender a level of reluctance for many people to be open of themselves, to enjoy this forum and to have fun. But personally I refuse to kowtow to some poor soul that has so much negativity. My personal hope is that they get help IRL and overcome whatever is causing them to spend all their time down-repping people as a means to feel better about themselves. Frankly, I find giving gifts of games I'm never going to play and generally trying to make a human connection with fellow gamers to be a much more satisfying way to live my life ;-p

On another note...

Congrats to Barbark on winning NPPD: milk of the Ultra Violet and Malv0sin on winning Rainslick 4 ;-)

Yeah, I pretty much agree completely with ya there. The human connection is much more valuable than some numerical score attributed to us by an easily gamed poor quality algorithm. Like you, I'm here to experience a greater good and hopefully to provide others with the same in my own way overall. I speak my mind freely and try to be respectful even in disagreement as much as possible and that's part of the enjoyment of being here is the social and human aspect of that. Feeling restricted worrying about some number would take away from that so I've just never cared about it. I can post here and I can read things others post, and we all can no matter what our scores are so nobody can really take anything material away. :)

Also, as far as rep goes.. I've seen people with very low rep scores do some very amiable things, including demonstrating a lot of generosity even being brand new to the forums, and I've also seen people with rep scores over 1000 doing shady or disruptive things too, so the score doesn't really represent anyone's true reputation.

It's too bad Chivalry Medieval Warfare isn't free-to-play, as that would make an excellent game for community dispute resolution instead of childish rep spite games. ;)
Thanks for that! Now to see what this game is about. Apparently it is short, so I'll be able to complete the experience without slogging through hours of stuff!

As to rep stuff, I have to say I have to care about it for some things, because some people require it for some things! Besides, I'm pretty sure 1022 points aren't going anywhere any time soon, so have +1 from me :D.

Thank you little tumbleweed! ;-) Great conversation the other day too.

It's what makes this community so great, that people like Momo (and so many others) not only give generously, but are real people that you can socialize and connect with.

It's a shame that some immature folks get a kick out of ruining it for everyone around here. Talk about being the ultimate trolls...

Hehehehe, glad to hear. ;o) A while back they had a free weekend with Chivalry Medieval Warfare and I installed it for a test run after watching the highly amusing game trailers. Normally I'm generally a serious multiplayer gamer and highly strategic and tactical etc. But this game screamed out to me to just run around crazy and slaughter the enemy senselessly in kamakazi mode hoping for some funny gory ragdoll kills and splatterfest to laugh about so I had to try it.

If you go on Youtube and look for videos of people playing it to get an idea what it's like, they are almost all completely lame. Few players in the game, people trying to be serious and overanalyze and be strategic, etc.... blah. To hell with 2 on 2 boring sleeper games, hop into a server with a couple dozen people all going at it or whatever the max is, pick a team at random without care, and run around chopping people's heads off and laughing at the blood fwipping all over.... total gorefest. "IT IS A GOOD DAY... TO DIE!!" being shouted in the background...

Just the perfect dispute resolution protocol if you ask me! Hehehe.

I'd probably go for a more esoteric kind of resolution. Hey, I'm a total girl! Imagine everyone involved having to learn this - we'd see a lot less issues ;-D
