teceem: (IMO) the worst episode from all 90s ST shows was the baseball one in DS9!

TOS was the worst ST show and the reboots the worst movies. I did like the 80s movies with Kirk though.
I heard Voyager, and more recently, Discovery managed to surpass it.

People should probably watch it themselves rather than go by hearsay

Breja: Edit: nevermind. I just read this

Strijkbout: even thinking about TNG makes me feel miserable.

Breja: and clearly there is no point in having the conversation at all. I'm out.
I was going to quote you and then you edited your post. I actually liked Lwaxana Troi a lot more than the piece of wallpaper that Nurse Chapel was. Gene had come a long way since the 60s.

Breja: Jesus Christ on a wheelbarrow. If anything makes me feel miserable it's this forum :D I'm out.
High praise! It's not easy to make a stranger feel miserable. :-P

I did say the worst ST show, not that everything about it is bad. There are some great episodes, and a lot of filler sitcom 'comedy'. Discovery comes close. Sometimes it's better, sometimes worse.

You don't need to defend Discovery, or attack any other show. I don't care about things in general.
What I do care, is why taceem found TOS to be the worst Trek show, compared to the usual suspects.

The only aspect Discovery is better than TOS is graphics. In terms of the story, I would gladly watch any TOS episode over one from Discovery.

Are you sure it's not just nostalgia? TOS has a lot of episodes where the 'story' was really minimal and silly (and I don't mean Monty Python style silly).

(random thought) I liked the DS9 episode Trials and Tribble-ations better than The Trouble with Tribbles.

Just wondering something... "Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combinations", when was that quote first (if ever) spoken out loud in any of the (live action) series? Google's not being helpful.

New Trek trash. Picard shoulda' stayed retired, playing Parisses squares with his holo-deck friends.

More minimal and silly than the whole episode dedicated for Burnam trying to persuade Lorca to try tardigrade as "navigator"? More stupid than T'Kuvma's ideology and the plan he employs in the first episode?

It's safe to say Star Trek has never got as anywhere near as silly as Star Wars Discovery. That show is a whole new level of bad.
I didn't like Discovery at all so it's hard to get too excited, but the nostalgia reflex is hard to ignore. I even liked Voyager so seeing Seven was kind of cool. I don't like serialized shows though, and like I said Discovery wasn't good IMO, so... we'll see.

Of course since I'll be waiting to "own it" like I did Discovery, who knows when I'll see it.

Just some clarification: For me, Discovery was a HUGE disappointment. But still, it's not all black and white. Discovery isn't the millennial devil and TOS isn't a golden oldie.
And I wonder... do I dislike the reboot movies because they're basically mindless action movies in a star trek outfit? Or because they represent all the aspects I actually don't like about TOS?
It was pretty hype tbh

too bad it's on some channel or service that doesn't actually exist

I agree about TOS being product of its time and thus having problems, but it's not how you phrased it earlier.

WUT?!!! Maybe TOS episodes lack intricacy in their plots, compared to TNG, but "mindless action"?!

Looks pretty good. But I feel this is not gonna be a random adventure per episode type of show.
Tbh I am both a fan of the more serious/lore and plot driven series of ST and the zany older series with salt vampires/ancient deities/etc.

In this case if they choose to go more serious it might be good as long as they don't bork it up ala Discovery seems to be doing(so the fans say).

Sachys: im no trekkie but enjoyed the different shows over the years.

havent bothered with that other recent show (wtf was that?).

this actually looks solid enough on all fronts as a first glimpse - but they can bugger off with any subscription service streaming requirements.
avatar
Lord_Kane: I just torrent them
I do the same with that show The Orville....

avatar
Sachys: im not even on about that. dont agree with it.

while i still have the benefit of getting review copies from companies that dont keep their lists up to date, ill just wait for it to be on freeview, or cheap on dvd secind hand if they want to paywall it behind some crappy streaming service.
If one can DVD record it at home on TV then a similar quality torrent should also be acceptable if one pays for cable/etc imo.

avatar
chutoi44: I can't believe they managed to keep that secret until the trailer, Data and Seven return! I hear that Riker and Troi are back too. Amazing! can't wait to see it,
Is crusher coming back? Because that'd also be great.

Pheace: I must be one of the few people who really liked Discovery, I like many of the main cast. The Klingon's were probably the worst of it but I'm liking everything else.
TBF I liked enterprise while many disliked it(I liked the quantum leap guy being in it and some episodes especially).

avatar
Strijkbout: TNG basically turned the franchise into a soap opera.
avatar
Breja: This is literally the silliest take on TNG I've ever read.
Agreed

Star Trek Discovery was absolute propaganda filled garbage.
Either way Picard will be the last star trek movie I will consume just like Avengers Endgame was the last marvel superhero movie I saw.

I am just tired of Hollywood making remakes, reboots, nostalgia movies and cliched superhero movies.
