Tekkaman-James: According to the most recent project update, Yu Suzuki is going to be doing a Reddit AMA tomorrow. The time has not been set, that I am aware of, but this would be a great opportunity for someone here who posts on Reddit to bring up our desire to #SaveShenmue from DRM by making #Shenmue3DRMFree. I'd be curious what he, personally, has to say on the subject. Anyone willing to do it?
I really mean no offense but shouldn't we focus on getting a full game first. I don't know about you but i'v wanted a sequel since the original games were still new. DRM free is the last thing we should care about.

I disagree on your last comment. First thing i cared on the list was shenmue 3 happening, since that's pretty much a given now, next thing on my list, is drm free pc delivery ( a gog delivery would be icing on the cake). If they provide it, fine, if not, they dont value drm free enough, wich is also fine for them, just dont expect me to back it.

And yes, i also have fond memories of the previous, and still have the dreamcast discs on my shelf. Regardless of how well the KS campaign goes, it's going to be very hard to match up to the expectations of gamers.

But we need to make sure we actually get a release first. No point badgering them about DRM free release (which would be nice) if we don't know even have a product.

Is that not already a given though? It passed the goal ages ago, to fall below that would require an incredibly large number of people to pull their pledges. Also, during the campaign is absolutely the time to ask about a DRM-free version. Not having the money yet seems to make developers more open minded. :P

Would you be surprised at a company wasting all that money?! I wouldn't lol.

I thought they had other conditional financial backing and that the kickstarter was more than anything just to prove demand to the backer.
It was mis-represented that way in the media, but if you read through the infos and comments on the kickstarter, it`s not like Sony or other sources are paying for it anyway no matter what becomes of the kickstarter campaign.

With the 2 mio goal which they reached on kickstarter Shenmue 3 will go ahead and a "basic" Shenmue 3 game will be possible. 5 million will let them do things Yu Suzuki really would like to do in Shenmue 3 , 10 million would make it a truly open world. (he said this himself on reddit)

@FullReactiveEye SONY will not get any money from the KS, they will help to finance the PS4 version and will also help for advertisement.

Translation: to make the full game of Shenmue III they need to reach 10 Mio on kickstarter, Sony will only help financally to port PC version to PS4 and help with advertisement. Sony is not involved with the funding of the game itself.

So they treat backers like criminals not because they are forced to by Sony to have the game made at all, but because they want to? Fuck them.
Kickstarter funds indie devs,
Kickstarter funds devs without capital,
Kickstarter funds freedom from publishers,
Kickstarter is a way out of industry monopolies,
Kickstarter funds DRM free games...

...Sony is perverting what Kickstarter is about, all of it. :(
Wrote a fairly long article on this:

http://fusiongamerelite.tumblr.com/post/122024998748/e3-2015-and-the-year-of-redemption

There are several people out there who probably won't back the project, which means your missing out on a piece of gaming history and also missing out on quite a few Shenmue 3 goodie items like the OST or the T-Shirt or the plushie toys, this game deserves to get made, whether you think Sony is good or bad is not the relevant issue here
But the game IS getting made; it was funded in its first nine hours. During this time of community outreach and stretch goals, it is perfectly acceptable for backers to make requests such as wanting #Shenmue3DRMFree. Is it the developers duty to comply with such requests? No. But that doesn't mean that people like me can't make their voice heard in the hopes that they will.
Shenmue III is one of the most active games on the gog.com wishlist. Everbody that wants a DRM free Shenmue please vote. Maybe we can convince Yu Suzuki.
