Ions are in electrical imbalance, either too few electrons or too many (cations and anions respectively), and I think I read somewhere that our production of our cortisol (a hormone) levels get higher/lower when the body is exposed to positives ions (and/or ionizing radiation), and cortisol regulates blood-pressure and blood-sugar among other things and is used to counter stress (like too much free radicals) and infections, and also affects the mood secondary. Cortisol is vital, but too much cortisol (like from chronic stress f.ex) is directly damaging to the body, especially the hippocampus.
So-called air-purifiers by making ozone (O3) is/was making people sick (they also released ions in the process).
Nothing new actually, but it's absolutely fascinating how living things and non-organics is affected by sound and electromagnetic waves, and different particles. Experimenting on controlling animals/insects/humans have been a thing for at least several decades now. The most infamous example is under WW2, and it's only logical to think that those pesky papers got new owners after the war.
Changes in the two magnetic poles (especially when those two shifts places or even just tilted by several degress) is known to affect animals and birds. Even levitation is achieved with those two waves.
I don't remember the name of the science show now but they showed how sound manipulation (or acoustics) could be used to alter a persons course. The same technique have been tested on animals with great success.
And today we already have aid for handicapped people to control a computer by reading the brain - so why not the other way?
However, cats are worse than other humans and aliens in controlling/manipulating humans :P
