Deep space 6.

Halcyon 6: Starbase Commander, a compelling strategy/RPG with lots of space for base building, is available now for Windows, Mac, and Linux, DRM-free on GOG.com, with a 15% launch discount.

Ever been to Halcyon 6? That's where a decommissioned starbase stands looming over the borders of Terran space, left behind by an enigmatic precursor race. An army of aliens is about to make its move against Earth, and Halcyon 6 will become our last hope of defense. Provided that you can upgrade, reinforce it, and bring it back in full working order, Commander.

Halcyon 6 lets you tap into the base's hidden potential by rebuilding and equipping its facilities, then manning them with the most talented crew in the galaxy. The surrounding star clusters are begging to be explored but only venture there if you're ready to tackle the turn-based challenges either with your spaceship or your crew. Perhaps the situation can be peacefully resolved through diplomacy? Or your new alien allies can offer their assistance, if you ask them nicely.

Restore Halcyon 6 to its former glory before you go seeking new challenges in nearby stars, DRM-free on GOG.com.
The 15% launch discount will last until September 20, 12:59 PM UTC.

micktiegs_8: Is only act 1 included at the moment? Are further acts part of the 'goals' they've set out?
avatar
Tessienne: All 3 acts of the story are live now. So there is a complete game, but they are still working on some of the kickstart goals to put in as well though. I played early access, but I wasn't a KS backer, so I don't even know what the KS extra stuff will be.
Ah, thanks for that.
Here is a sample of their goals too which I was talking about:

Unlimited Replayability: Each playthrough has players dealing with a new randomly generated derelict station, surrounding galaxy, crew recruits, and alien factions

Motley Crew: Each crew member has unlimited potential for acquiring unique behaviours, traits and abilities, for better or for worse. Making the best use of your dysfunctional crew will be one of the keys to success. Who should be your main Science Officer? The insomniac that works insane hours but has an addictive personality or the agoraphobic mad genius?

Encounters of the Weird Kind: There are 6 alien factions in Halcyon 6 and they are all quite different with varying objectives and personalities. Only your wit and your crew’s skills will help you navigate the diplomatic waters to gain them as key allies or valuable trading partners.

According to this, those features are not up yet:

Halcyon 6 now has a universal Linux build :)

IAmSinistar: I'll just leave this here, shall I? Someone surely has use for it.
Cool I'll use that on the weekend after a few drinks, when I start to despair that I don't know most people there :)

cyboff: Captain Cyboff reporting for duty! KS crew can find their GOG keys in backerkit!
Excellent, thanks! Got mine too now. I seem to forget to check Backerkit in these instances. Nabbed the soundtrack from there too. Can't wait to play tonight!
Instabought just on the premise and setting, and so far, I've been having quite a lot of fun.

JudasIscariot: Halcyon 6 now has a universal Linux build :)
Great, thanks!
Just in time, as I just bought it (got it as a gift, actually). :)))
Having a blast with the game, I originally overlooked it due to the amount of so called 'indie garbage' floating around but caught PiranJades Excellent release stream of it, realized how great it was and smashed the buy button. Been awesome.
Finally played some last night, and it's really good! Quite addictive with the "must do one more thing before quitting" aspect. And I'm already invested enough in my officers that I'm going to be upset if/when I lose one. Like a lot of these games I want to hurry and do everything at once (expand base! more research! bigger ships!), but happily so far it's not pressuring me to where I feel like everything is ganging up on me and I cannot make a mistake. I've actually made several mistakes and am still chugging along. We'll see if they catch up with me later. :)

So far I can definitely recommend this game if it's on your radar as something you may like.

Lost my first game last night (I assume it was the end of the story arc, but I'm not sure), it was my second play through because I made a real mess of things on the first.
But apparently there is a bug that makes enemies spawn that you can't defeat properly (don't want to give any spoilers but there is an event to do that unlocks what you need to deal with them and they're not supposed to spawn till you've done it, but they do).

But I think I'll know better for next time what I need to do. Definitely recommend it, and can't wait till they add all the extra stuff in down the line.
Hm, where is the launch discount gone? Wasn't it supposed to be available till 20th of september.

Edit: And its back.

I'm thinking about pulling the trigger on this one. So many positive reviews from people actually playing it... Plus I'm a sucker for the art style.
Welp. Pulling the trigger myself, but constantly missing : stuck forever in a paypal "redirecting" loop.

Not sure what's at fault here. But apparently I'm the only one with that issue ?

No, you're not, but it seems to affect only a handful of users. Some reported that switching to another browser helped, while for one it was persistent across two browsers. Some reported that trying again after a while fixed the problem.
Unfortunately the issue only became apparent after regular office hours, our devs did what they could remotely, but they will have to continue the investigation first thing tomorrow morning.
For now, all I can suggest is:
1) try a different browser,
2) try again after some time,
3) use a credit/debit card directly, and avoid using redirect-type payments until this issue is resolved.
We're sorry about the trouble. :(

Firek: We're sorry about the trouble. :(
Thanks. I'll try tomorrrow. The "trouble" in question being the ability to buy/play some videogame, I think most of us will survive till then, don't worry.

But i'm happy to be reassured about my computer/connexion/paypal account or wherever I first suspected the bug to be lodged...
Played some more last night, and finally lost some officers in a major battle which I just barely won, my flagship on the edge of going critical. I have the say the play balance in this game so far is spot-on. And there are a good number of things to do, which keeps the variety going. It also has that "one more mission" addictive factor that keeps you from stopping at a reasonable hour of the night (or morning). :)

Working my way towards the Tier 2 fleet, which I gather is when things will change up and get really rough for me again. Looking forward to it!
