Some people found, while the way 15th century Christianity and their view on other religious groups might be portrayed historically accurate, a protagonist who is a racist, sexist, homophobic, hypocritical alcoholic with serious mental issues (their words, not mine) was rather unlikeable. However, I can't say if these reviews provide a fair assessment or if they just missed the game's punchline (...)
My professor of cultural history used to say that human history is cyclical. That is, we are doomed (at some point to repeat it, again). The only way to try to avoid repeating the same mistakes of the past is not by hiding the facts as if they had never happened. On the contrary, it is to face history, to reflect and always remember what happened in order to avoid committing the same stupidities of the past. These words and reflection by this teacher struck a deep chord in me. Therefore, I cannot judge the past by the same parameters as I do today. There are very different socio-cultural contexts that marked society in each historical moment of humanity.
In this context it seems to me that a person can be against certain (theoretically) outdated patterns of behaviour. The ideal is always to raise consciousness. [Edit].
