Fantastic Beasts And How to Slay Them.

Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen, the monster-hunting epic that keeps challenging you with dynamic encounters, is now available, DRM-free on GOG.com, with a 60% launch discount.

Tackling monsters shouldn't be just a roadblock in your epic adventure - it should be the very essence of it. In this massive open-world RPG every fight is its own reward thanks to the dynamic mechanics and deep customization. Train and upgrade your A.I. controlled pawns to fight alongside you or share them online with other adventurers and get rewarded for their exploits.

The 60% discount will last until June 20, 1PM UTC.

NOTE: The game comes with full GOG Galaxy support including Cloud saves, leaderboards, and achievements. Additionally, both the Pawn system and Ur Dragon work exactly as in the Steam version. Keep in mind, however, that the GOG Galaxy servers are separate from the Steam ones, meaning that this is a fresh start.

Watch the trailer.

djdarko: Instabought. Because...

1.) I want to support GOG
2.) I want to encourage Capcom to release more games here
3.) The game looks freaking AWESOME!

I'm tellling you guys/gals, at this point GOG can get anything with the exception of the newest Denuvo games, and maybe Valve's if GabeN won't let them go.
i also want to support GOG but the last 2 years good old games i am used to buy have not appeared.... seems the good old game stuff is totally drained ....

so i got me 6 new casual games to satisfy my game buying needs ...
Wolves hunt in packs!!!

Djaron: Well, if this release and the bethesda stuff last week is some sort of apologies from GOG for the galaxy incident and the gremlins inc. invasion ? then i would say i may let the door ajar for now and keep listening a bit longer... for now

BTW great game, didnt expect to see this one coming here at all or until years.... nice addition to the catalog, it's a great game, i spend hours on it on the X360

at this release price ? i can only recommend it
Yup, even I will have a day off Galaxy bashing :o)

jalister: From what i just read, you make 1 pawn, and can hire up to two other pawns. The hired pawns are made by other players. Hired pawns do not level up, so you will need to swap them out.

GR00T: Okay, so you need to constantly swap out the hires? Oh ye gods, what a fucked up system.

I guess this leads to another question: is the game even playable without hiring pawns? i.e. can you play (and enjoy) this game with only the one pawn you create yourself and the player character?
Yes you can play it with you alone and your pawn, but it is significantly harder especially in the early game. Since your skill sets are limited per character you will need to balance your party out by hiring pawns with skills that will be useful to your play style. I know the system sounds a bit convoluted but it really turns out to be my favorite online system. My favorite feature was swapping out one of my hired pawns then trying to hire them again to see how far they have leveled up or their behavior changed. Some players completely blew me away when leveling at times, and some stopped playing and some pawns never got stronger again. What makes the system unique is that pawns remember what they fought, so they might be able to take down creatures you haven't run into easier since they know it's weak point while you are still trying to figure out what works at killing it. Same with your pawn, when it gets hired, it learns how to fight things that you might not have run into in the game, so it's always best to rest often especially in the beginning so your pawn can gain knowledge from it's travels.
I know it's a different publisher but, how long do you recon before the likes of Bayonetta and Vanquish make their way here?

Niggles: Any comment on the pro and cons of this game? (never heard of it.... thats a 20gb download as well...)
The story is absolutely bonkers (typical Capcom), it's really, really terrible, but the redeeming feature of this game is the game play, which is just awesome. I've played it numerous times just for the game play.

Edit: oh, yeah, insta-buy. Can play it without firing up Steam now. Woohoo!

Pro's:
You can be any type of character you want, and swap at any time (note you need to be level 10 I think and get to a certain town), so you could be a warrior, then start using magic, then jump back to being a warrior etc. Your decisions on character are not final (although recommend to start as Rogue, as you get some stats increases you don't get starting as a warrior - been a while since I played it).

Really big open world with things in it. So often these seem empty and repetitive, you get that a bit here, but far less than most of the genre.

Combat is really fluid, great character controller. Climb on things, stabby stabby!!

Graphics are pretty good and it runs well.

Good magic system.

Cons:
You are forced to have one ally - its part of a quest. I always solo when I can so this was annoying.

Story isn't the best out there, not bad by any means.

The add on dungeon is a total beast, really hard.

Can someone upload Dragon's Dogma's exe to https://www.virustotal.com/
And share the link over here?

GR00T: it seems a weird design decision that you can't level your 'hires' as well. Seems it's a party-based game (or at least designed to be, what with pawns and all), so I prefer to steer all my party members in directions I want them to develop
They are not *your* pawns, so why would it be up to you to change them? Remember, your own pawn gets hired out too (if you allow it via settings), so would you want somebody else changing them?

low rated
Does it come with the Galaxy DRM client ?

robertgg: Does it come with the Galaxy DRM client ?
It's optional.

If you want leaderboards, multiplayer pawns, achievements, cloudsaves yes galaxy is needed.

Why? GOG should be safe?

GR00T: Ah, so there are a bunch of computer generated pawns of varying levels and skill sets? If so, not so bad, but it seems a weird design decision that you can't level your 'hires' as well. Seems it's a party-based game (or at least designed to be, what with pawns and all), so I prefer to steer all my party members in directions I want them to develop as opposed to leaving that to an AI (which tends to make poor choices, in my experience).

Not a big deal though; I bought the game anyway. :P
AI generated pawns have very random skillsets which kinda sucks since mostly they have no synergy with what you need. Therefore most people choose to get other player's pawns who are mostly equipped properly and with the better combination of skills. You probably wanna develop your main pawn properly so that other players actually hire your main pawn. You get a good number of Rift Crystals that way, which is important currency in the end-game:
