Let the controversy about walking simulators and Dear Esther (is it a game? Is it good? Does it make any sense?) continue. For people who already own this on steam be aware that owners of the original will get this for free.

Already got it on Steam, so yeah, not buying again... It's nice for a run or two, but come on, 10 Euros for an engine port and a commentary mode? You've got to be kidding. At least the soundtrack should be part of it.

That's good to know, I actually enjoyed this and "played" it a couple of times. I won't mind doing it again with this new edition...

I'm guessing it's better to just watch a playthough of this game on Youtube?

But MAYBE the commentary will finally explain what it all means and that would be really worth something (I doubt it because the mystery surrounding the "story" might be its strongest point).

Great 'game'! Or at least a great experience / atmosphere generator. But I already got it on humble.
Maybe I'll get it here at a deep discount for completeness sake. I like to have most of my games here on GOG, but 10€ is a bit much just for completionism.

It simply does not work this way IF it does work at all. Dear Esther is all about trying to immerse yourself and feel like you are this person on this island (in case it IS a person and it IS an island - nothing is for certain here ;)). If you manage to feel this way and don't have any problems in reaaaaaaallllyyyyy slooooowwww walking then you might actually like this. If not you might even hate it and wondering waht's all the fuss is about (a bit like Blair Witch Project at its time). Watching it on YT is not the same and the probability that you will be just bored might get higher. Of course that is just my opinion.

The original version was a real revelation for me - the profound feeling of loneliness and the massive scape of a deserted, stormy island, the melancholic music, the narrator's voice: everything gave me an experience of immersion I've never had before. The "LE" seems not really attractive to me however - developer commentary destroys the immersion and if it solves the last mysteries of the game, it loses it's wonder. The graphics don't look different to me and the remastered sound isn't an argument for me, as everything sounds great in the original game. If it's in a 70%-Sale I would consider it, but at the moment I'll wait.

I liked Dear Esther when I played the Linux version from HumbleBundle.

Does someone know why this "Landmark Edition" isn't available on Linux and whether there's a chance of it being ported?
Humble doesn't have the old game anymore and the new version doesn't support Linux there either.

It ought to be very different from the previous version, to have earned the 'open world' category.

I'm going to agree with Marko on this one. I think that you would miss part of the experience by watching a Let's Play because that would distance you from the game; instead of being immersed in the scenery and the narrative, you would be watching somebody else doing that.
