Dammit, Daedalic! I PROMISED I'll pre-order this game if only you finally added those German language versions of Chains Of Satinav and Memoria that you offer to your Steam customers. Hell, I'd have bought it on release day too.

You let that chance slip. Sucks for you, Daedalic, those could have been the easiest $15 bucks you've ever made! :(

Hah hah... What's up with that, though -- they do offer the German versions on Steam, but not here?

As for this game, I think the story/theme doesn't do much for me, but those sure are some nicely painted backgrounds. Nice visual style, overall, and fairly unique. Respect to the artist team responsible for all that.

Daedalic originally justified this with the Steam version having regional pricing, gog didn't at the time. Eventually, gog DID introduce regional pricing, but Daedalic never made good on their rhetoric about regional pricing by adding the German language versions here. And they've ignored all inquiries regarding this issue. Which is why I have this strange urge to bring it up every time I see a Daedalic-related newspost.
So I paid $29.99 to preorder this game and it's now selling for $12.59 (in the US) at launch? If you're an early adopter of a game, you expect that it will eventually get discounted, but such a drastic discount on release day? It's not as if the premium I paid even got me early access. I feel like I've been ripped off.

I'm not sure where you're getting your information. It's selling for USD $29.99 on both GOG and Steam.

It's £23.99 for the season pass here.

Anyway, moral of the story...

Here's a screengrab of the 58% discount I'm seeing.

That's extremely bizarre. For me, the store page for that game shows that it's not on sale. Nothing was mentioned about a discount in the release article, so I assume there must be a strange bug that's resulted in you seeing that. We're both in the US, so the only difference is that I didn't buy the game. Maybe it's a bug that only affects people who have already purchased the game, or maybe they're allowing you a discount if you decide to purchase a key to gift to someone else. I'd contact support about that if I were you.

Looks like a bug of some sort (or maybe the US are getting a discount for whatever reason?!).

To me it just sells for €29.99

I'm in the US and I don't see a discount. It's either a bug or they're letting people who already purchased it purchase a key to gift to someone else at a discount. If it were the latter, I would think they would have said something about it, so I assume it's the former.

And rightly so, imho -- I don't see any good reason why they can't bring those missing localizations here, when they do offer them on Steam.

Originally I thought they're clinging tightly to the German localization because of deals with local retailers for the physical editions of their games. But if it's already up on the biggest marketplace for digital game distribution, I don't see what the problem is... Other than them not giving a fuck. :/

That's the stupidest argument I've ever heard.

I think their argument was a mix of both of those: We have deals with local retailers for physical editions, which is why the Steam version needs to be regionally priced, which is why we can't have the German version on gog, because they only offer flat prices.

Like Zoidberg said, outrageously contrived bullshit! But people bought into it at the time. The fact that even after gog introduced regional pricing for Daedalic games (hefty ones at that) they still refuse to release the German version here, that's what really hits home the utter absurdity of their statements.

Have you asked any GOG representatives why those localizations are still not available here? What's their version of the story?

This isn't exclusively a problem for German GOG users either, since I know many people from other countries like playing German games in their original language, either because they already speak German, or because it helps them learn. And while I play 90+% of my games in English, German Adventures and RPGs are among those exceptions where I often find the original version better than the international/English version.
