Return to the Arcade.

The wait is finally over: 15 -count 'em- 15 essential SNK NEO・GEO classics that no gamer should be without, are finally available DRM-free on GOG.com!

These are the games that devoured our entire allowance when we were skipping school to beat them at the Arcade. For convenience's sake, we've broken them down into three bundles:

METAL SLUG Bundle: Easily the most insatiable coin-eaters of the bunch, METAL SLUG 1, 2, 3, and X are still just as fun as you remember them from these blessed times. They all come sporting GOG Galaxy support complete with leaderboards, and -with the exception of METAL SLUG 2- both local and online multiplayer functionalities.

Fighting Classics Bundle: These games' legacy is made up of fierce combos, brutal takedowns, and lots of broken controllers: FATAL FURY SPECIAL, SAMURAI SHODOWN 2, SAMURAI SHODOWN V, THE LAST BLADE, THE KING OF FIGHTERS 2000, and THE KING OF FIGHTERS 2002 CLASSIC. Are you up for a rematch? We thought so!

Arcade Games Bundle: The collection would not be complete without these lesser known but equally addictive hidden gems: BLAZING STAR, BASEBALL STARS 2, KING OF THE MONSTERS, SHOCK TROOPERS, and TWINKLE STAR SPRITES.

Get each game individually for -50% or together with its bundle for 75%.
These discounts will last until June 6, 1PM UTC.

NOTE: Make sure to check each game's individual store page for details on their GOG Galaxy supported features.

htown1980: Hey,

Imagine you're an old man who is not very good at video games. Do you think the Metal Slug games would be too hard for said old man?

I guess I am also wondering if I... I mean this old man... would need to play through the entire game in one sitting or whether he can get to a point and "save" or something? And is that a practical way of finishing the game.

I know one of my favourite games Gods had a system were you could enter level codes but that wasn't super practical as you then started the level with nothing. But that game was pretty short and not all that hard to complete.

Asking for a friend of mine who is an old man. Not me, that's for sure. I am young and very good at video games.... o_O

Thanks in advance!
At least in the Windows release of the Metal Slug games, there's no save system at all but there is a 'free play' mode which is equivalent to having unlimited quarters. The games are very fun, and Metal Slug 1 isn't too difficult, but 2 / X and 3 really ramp up the challenges, especially in the later levels. They really wanted players to feed those machines quarters. All 3 games can be finished in less than an hour each.

Katzapult: Well thats disappointing. Those games are hard enough even without input lag. How bad is it?
It's pretty minor input lag, the constantly fluctuating framerate however is the real killer.
Damn! It's about time! I thought I would die before I saw these come to GoG.
so what exactly the Cloud Save feature saves in Metal Slug?

Looks like no effort was put into the SNK-games here.

The recommended hardware is quite insane for such old roms. Definately sloppy emulated.

Recommended system requirements - Windows: 7 / 8 / 10
Processor: 2 GHz Dual Core
Memory: 2 GB RAM
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GT 640 <------- WTF
DirectX: Version 9.0c
Hard drive space: 500 MB
Mouse Keyboard

Same here, and this makes me sad :/
I was really happy to see the announce, and then I looked in the thread to have info concerning the emulation... It seems that DotEmu has done again his "high quality work", like with Raiden Legacy (without even talking about the lack of updates/fixes). That's really a shame because all of these are great games :S
I don't understand how you can't provide a "almost perfect" emulation in 2017, on a computer, and especially when you are asking money for it.
Sorry but I can't support a company like DotEmu. Maybe I'll buy some of them later if there are updates which fixes the emulation issues and that it's confirmed by a lot of players, but for now it's a no, unfortunately :/

These Metal Slug games are really that short? I checked on howlongtobeat and all seems to be 2-3 hours only?

Yeah, in fact I think they're more like 1 or 2 hours.

Yes they are. In the arcades you need to pay for every continue. Thats why you cannot make them difficult and long at the same time.

they are arcade games so they are short by their very nature.
Any reason behind the uppercase titles?
Looks meh
How good is the emulation of blazing star?

For the game as GOG offers it: There is a mode witch saves and a mode which does not.

For other emulators: Save states do exist (basically these are quicksaves), but through other emulators you are playing the arcade game as if it was in the arcades meaning outside of save states it's all in one shot.

GOG isn't horribly consistent in general with these. I wouldn't worry, if it doesn't work so hot just put the ROM into something else that will. There are emulators that run on Pentium 4 machines even, I know this from experience.
