LootHunter: Is Anderton Park Primary School in Birmingham private? No. Is it a special Muslim School? No. Do you know the difference between private and public? Apparently, no.
Do you understand my point? If religion is important for those parents who don't accept LGBTQ+, they're more than welcome to go to a public (UK) or private (US) religious school or even homeschool their kids instead. If they can't afford it and don't want to go to a weekly place of worship to offset those ideas, then suck it up and deal with what's provided for you.

OTOH, there's also no reason why LGBTQ+ people who want to get into faith can join inclusive religious sects either. No point in wasting efforts to get people who have a zero chance of accepting you to accept you.

Do these policies lead to a higher suicide rate?
Non-sequitur. I never said removing "Merry Christmas" from US retail stores was causing higher suicide rates of LGBTQ+. You questioned if LGBTQ+ people were being oppressed. And compared to US Christians, they are.

Oh, really? Linko64 will beg to differ.
I don't know what this means. And I don't see how a GOG [former staff?] member's experience negates that fact. If:

- Your fundamental values are significant to you
- The company's values don't align with yours
- There is no hope in persuading them

Then go somewhere else. It's the easiest and most effective solution.

Dude! No one demands "Straight month". Definitely not from corporations. However, some people did want to go in a single "straight pride" parade and this made all the media go up in arms against them. How you can claim that heterosexuality isn't persecuted if straight people get flak for desire of expressing their heterosexuality?
No one is demanding it, but as you see every time this topic is brought up, the easiest dismissive reaction is the same: "if we have pride month, why can't we get [X] [day / week / month] too?" where [X] is a group that has received far less discrimination than LGBTQ+ in attempt to negate the legitimate and functional purpose. Joking or not, you can see multiple examples in this thread:

- https://www.gog.com/forum/general/pride_month_seriously/post7
- https://www.gog.com/forum/general/pride_month_seriously/post32
- https://www.gog.com/forum/general/pride_month_seriously/post33
- https://www.gog.com/forum/general/pride_month_seriously/post67
However, some people did want to go in a single "straight pride" parade and this made all the media go up in arms against them. How you can claim that heterosexuality isn't persecuted if straight people get flak for desire of expressing their heterosexuality?
Because it's already ubiquitous and celebrated in modern Western culture:
- Adult men and women are applauded for raising families whereas there is pushback on LGBTQ+ marriage
- Culturally acceptable to ask when a new couple is expecting their child or to hear that they're actively working on it whereas some people question if LGBTQ+ couples are grooming their adopted kids for sexual exploits
- People don't wince when men and women hold hands or kiss in public whereas some people "don't want to see that"
- People gossiping about losing virginity, # partners or times had sex, and even tips about bettering your sex techniques in magazines at retail checkouts whereas some people "don't want to hear that" about LGBTQ+ people and "they should keep it to themselves"
- Children's movies, books, etc. emphasizing how men and women should be finding their prince or princess charming
- Most importantly, straight adolescents don't get bullied, disowned by their families, resort to self-harm, and driven to suicide by dating an opposite gender in school (exceptions to mentally unstable relationships)

As you can see, there are straight people are far less persecuted than LGBTQ+ people when you compare stats from different papers. Might be impossible in Russia, but for others, I question if they ever reached across the aisle and get to know them and putting in some effort to understand their perspectives and experiences? Maybe you both might learn a thing or two from each other.

The straight parade was an outrage stunt designed to draw criticism so advocates have easy ammunition against the other side. People from both opposite extreme sides are very adept at picking out low-hanging fruit to advance their ideas. Why do you think all the far right-wing media news and pundits go after inarticulate college students / antifa / SJWs out of context and all the far left-wing talk show hosts and pundits go after inarticulate nutjobs / incels / alt-right out of context?

Dude! You already proved yourself wrong. You yourself said that most LGBT-supportive country still has 2-7x suicide rate. I mean, obviously, persecution of LGBT will affect suicide count negatively. But if even in supportive countries suicide rate is high, doesn't that indicate that persecution is not the only reason for suicides?
So what is the reason for this suicides then if not for bullying and family disownment?

Oh, and btw, you also admited that male suicide rate is higher than female one. Why men don't recieve any support on that account? Eh?
The paper attributes to the lack of effective treatment and training for general mental health professionals for LGBTQ+ community due to a lack of understanding until very recently (p.35). And the reason why general health workers have to deal with ineffectively treating LGBTQ+ people is because there wasn't enough LGBTQ+-oriented experts - time and geography dependent (p.33-36):
Overall, however, there is a dearth of mental health interventions specifically designed for LGBT people, which means the large majority of those who need treatment must rely on general community providers. In recent years, there has been growing recognition of the need to include more extensive information on LGBT people in educational and training programs for mental health professionals. One promising start is the development of a LGBT Mental Health Syllabus for psychiatry residents (Group for the Advancement of Psychiatry, 2007). Although this curriculum provides helpful information on such topics as LGBT psychological development and common LGBT medical and mental health problems, the lack of direct discussion of suicide or suicide risk is an unfortunate omission that should be addressed. No systematic information is available on the extent to which this or similar curricula are being implemented in psychiatry or other clinical training programs.
As for why LGBTQ+ men have higher suicide rates than women, it's likely because LGBTQ+ men were raised with traditional masculine values and still attribute seeking support as being weak or having low self-worth, as suggested by this 2009 paper. Maybe lesbian and MFF pornography is more accepting by society than same-sex relationships, which explains why they're less likely than their male counterparts for suicide (though still 2x likely than straight women).

pearnon: 1. Canadian Pastors Arrested
"Whataboutism" is a contrived, dishonest neologism to pooh-pooh "pointing out the hipocrisy and double standards", which is what I was doing, as your point was about government or organized groups mistreatment/oppression of Christians. The pastors were politically, forcefully and disproportionately prosecuted, whereas the mosques and pro-Palestine protesters got off scott-free.
The pastors weren't persecuted for their religion, though. It was for their repeated offenses for blatantly disregarding public health orders, not because they were Christian. You were still allowed to worship in small numbers in-person in this region, but you had to stick to those person limits or take it online.

2. Australian Church

You're making my point. The fact that NSW (along with South Australia) doesn't even prohibit religious discrimination is in itself a problem.
I believe they're working on it. Not that your or my thoughts on this matter as this is an Australian issue that should be solved by Australian people.

4. British Chaplain Fired

The court procedures are irrelevant here. A chaplain was fired for, again, professing his beliefs, this one in a sermon about the implementation of a program that goes against them. The alphabet soup policies were only part of the identity ideologies he addressed. And going "oh, it's ok, he wasn't accused of violent extremism" is, frankly, splitting hairs. .
He wasn't fired for his religious beliefs, but dismissed on the grounds of gross misconduct. It's because his bosses told him to teach the new curriculum and he actively disobeyed orders and voiced dissent in meetings. He could've refused or quit out of protest, but instead he actively undermined the policy.

And with respect to bureaucratic laws and charges, the entire premise is built on wordiness and splitting hairs. Prevent is a program that looks after both violent and non-violent extremism and it's up to their courts to determine if he was falsely flagged.

5. Nativity Scene Outside Indiana Courthouse

That the ACLU lost the case is irrelevant. They keep doing it throughout the country in a systematic war of attrition, as evidenced by the search results page I posted.
How are case proceedings irrelevant if they set precedents for other similar cases within regional jurisdictions? This is how legal systems are designed to work.

6. European Church Vandalisms

I specifically included the desecration of churches after my list because it is not proven that they were carried out by organized groups. My point the institutional shrug at churches being desecrated in record numbers in Europe stands however. Especially as, again, any vandalized mosque or synagogue immediately leads to thorough investigations, condemnation and contrition.
So do you have any evidence that there's systemic mistreatment investigating crimes against places of worship with different religious affiliations? Or is this your perception from news articles?

By way of comparison, note how the press had no qualms about the identities of children in this case. And how everyone is quick to condemn and disavow and be contrite when a mosque or synagogue is vandalized, but in the case of Christian churches it's invariably " to properly assess the situation".
Hate-motivated crime is difficult to define based on different countries and their laws. In all those cases you've replied to, they were all investigated fairly to see if it was a hate crime. Like all cases, sufficient evidence must be collected before charges can be laid by prosecution. Most of the stories I posted were initial responses to incidents where police were still in the middle of investigations, though I do acknowledge they were definitively hate-motivated crimes.

Also, the link you posted didn't disclose the identities of their children and blurred their faces in the video as per publication bans. And a hate-motivated crime is chargeable considering the two women filmed themselves stealing from the mosque.
In my opinion LGBTQ+ has gotten all the acceptance that is possible in western developed countries. People do not have to embrace the sexual preference of other people. People just have to tolerate it or even accept it and most did for a decade or longer.

There will always be fringe groups of people who are actively opposed and also act upon their opinion. You always have those nut jobs on both ends of whatever spectrum.

However there is still a normal and a not normal.

In my opinion, the resistance nowadays is not about tolerating somebody's sexual preference, but that LGBTQ+ organizations are going for children in schools and seem to have the goal to change the very fabric and concepts that form the basis for sexuality, gender, family. And that not for themselves, but also everybody else, meaning also the majority of people. Breaking down structures that have existed for hundreds, thousands of years.

It is no longer about accepting other peoples sexuality, chosen or not. Now it is about accepting the destruction of the very concepts and structures people are living and forming partnerships upon .

LGBTQ+ had all the acceptance they can wish for years ago in developed western countries, but it seems that was not the goal in the end or new goals have been set.

MeowCanuck: Do you understand my point?
I understand all your points. But I don't agree with them. Sadly, moderators deemed my responses to you too political, so unless you're willing to allow me PM you, we can't continue to discuss the issues.
MeowCanuck, LootHunter and pearnon you are having a back and forth, which should be moved to PMs. Also Enebias and peronon, both stay civil as your discussion has gotten heated, and don't link to political articles. Please prove that discussion can be done calmly.

We don't have a group chat, but discussing things on the Forum that break the Code of Conduct is not the way either :( We do want people to be able to discuss things and talk about difficult topics, as long as it's not breaking any rules.

i don't care about THINK OF THE CHILDREN arguments. 'cause then you would have to ban or censor a lot more games than CHINA and Sony of California.

but yes, if GOG wants to ban "political" games. they would have to ban games that are very obviously LGBT. which i don't want them doing. unban taiwanese games, GOG!

Nonsense. I admit I might have misworded my posts so that the message coming from them resulted different from my intentions (although I doubt it), but the concpt I wanted to express was always the same.

I still think most of those posting here are in extremely bad faith and simply twisting anything they come by shielded by a faux aura of sensibleness and rationality, but out of respect from the host who asked me to cease my invectives, I will do so.

I'll say this before leaving: at first I thought the "pride" community was pushing it too much and denouncing things that weren't there; if the demographic here is anything to come by, I was absolutely wrong. Being a LGBTQ+ member must be a nightmare right now conisdering the general, even violent hostility.

Farewell for now, political discussions. I won't reply further.

Edit: out of honesty, I admit I used a couple of insults in previous posts. All were sincerely meant and felt, so no regrets.

Hm.. I don't know much about this pride month. But Is it really necessary to point it out with the name "Pride Month",,
I mean what's the point of it.. Is it only for LGBTQ+?
I'm not disgracn anyone here.. I'm just saying what I felt. They are just people like us,, dont need extra touch...(for your business? hahah)

And for those who got felt(down) like "my disappointment is immeasurable and my day got ruined(lmao)", why do you care that much bout (a word/period) Pride month? You are getting discounts in the name of it, so just accept it and get something you like instead of crying bout it and making it up with something im unfamiliar with POLITICAL...

Again I'm not against/disgracing anyone here :)))

Have nice weekend...

Zimerius: shutting down discussions is not healthy? It really depends on who you are, sane healthy people trying to discus with people of lesser intent is in general not healthy for the healthy ones
avatar
BanditKeith2: And its usually the ones that shut down the discussions that cause the lesser ones to become a thing .. As there is proof where people who either grow up with the wrong info and thus have the wrong view of things when actually talked to as a person and things discussed help each other understand the other and get one out of a bigoted mindset and the other to understand how and why someone has such views and the like.. but when discussions are shut down it causes those people to when trying to understand something or the like actually find most places they can discuss it are bigoted people or people with the wrong info thus shutting the discussions down makes matters worse for everyone as a end result ..

Am I saying allow rather hateful stuff to go unchecked? No ..But rather what I am saying if discussions that are understandably civil even if bigoted .. while others not bigoted but using shutdown tactics on those to literally makes problems worse for everyone .. I would link a YouTube video of a prime example of where a guy who was bigoted thanks to ending up at a piont having little choice but to talk to one he was bigoted against and the other person understood apathy and such was the way to win over a person to change em for the better but I ain't sure if that kind of thing would break the rules or not
avatar
toxicTom: Honestly, I know CoC and all, and discussions like that can easily turn into poo-flinging (and do and did). Just look at the mass downvotes (please stop that already, GOG).

The suggestion to take it to "private conversations" (chat) would make sense if two people were at each other's throats. But until the site supports group chats, it's not really a solution. There are a dozen or so people here discussing, how's that supposed to work in 1:1 chats?
avatar
BanditKeith2: Agreed I am not aware of G.O.G having group chat.. if there was a group chat or group pms that'd be a viable call but if they don't then saying to keep it to pms then its not a viable thing when its not a 1 0n 1 chat
only in a controlled environment with equal participants is freedom achievable

I very rarely post here anymore. This whole thread is why. Gog has got to have one of the most toxic forums I've ever seen. I remember way back when the site first opened, this particular forum was great, and there was very little need for moderation.

What happened? This is just disgusting.

Please shut this thread down (hell just delete it). There is no civil discourse here, there's no 'opinion' here, there's nothing of value here at all, it's all just hate spewed.

Gog is just fucking disgusting for allowing this.
