I have wondered if and when Paradox will move its game base to gog. They need to realize there is an untapped revenue stream in DRM free gaming through gog.

It would be great to get a chance to play some of their titles; such as Stellaris, and Surviving Mars.

Makes me wonder what the real chances are since some of the games are here but not very many.

Considering they have several games here already

I think they are well aware of how big this "untapped revenue stream" really is

I think they've basically decided it's far more lucrative to suckle at Steam's massive teats.

Yeah, I bet they're wondering why Majesty 2 isn't selling like hot cakes. Must be GoG...
Really wish they would bring some more of their newer titles here like CK II, EU 4 and Hearts of Iron 4.
Come on, I can't be the only fan of Grand Strategy on GOG, right? Right?

They won't bring CK2, EU4 and HoI4 here until they've stopped making DLCs for those games.
Victoria 2 should be here, though. But not many people is a fan of the series (even though it's one of my favorites) and it sold very poorly so I guess that's one of the reasons it's not here yet.

Is there any substance to this statement? Have Paradox said this? Or gog?

No. It's just my assumption, based on their actions so far.
Unfortunately GOG is still seen as a "bargain bin" by some of the big publishers. Meaning that their products will not be sold here until they've stopped giving large profits on the other DRM stores. And since Crusader Kings 2 and the others are still running the DLC race I don't see them coming here soon.

EDIT: the same unfortunately also seems to apply to Cities: Skylines.

Ok.

I would really like to see the linux version of CK II here. Haven't been able to scratch the grand strategy itch for a while since I can't get EU3 to install properly with wine.

I know you are joking, but Tyranny is a day one release as well as Pillars of eternity. There are also classics like sword of the stars, Europa universalis and Hearts of iron. I think they have quite a few data points to compare.

Not to mention that they are also bringing the new Battletech game to gOg, it does not seem that they are ignoring this outlet. Other reason s are Mayne more to do with technical issues, such as MP tied to Steamworks or simillar, and it is not cost efficient to redo them.

The difference is that Tyranny or Pillars of Eternity are games they only published. They may well simply have agreed to let Obsidian release the game on GOG, but they obviously aren't ready to do the same for their own strategy games.

Another issue is that in the case of games like CK 2 or EU 4, the whole multiplayer is tied to Steam and they're using Steam Workshop for modding access. It would probably cost too much to redo the whole thing to port those games to GOG.
Especially since when CK 2 first came out, Paradox also released a DRM-free version on Gamersgate, but they said the sales weren't large enough to warrant supporting that version, so it hasn't been patched in years and none of the DLC or mods work for it.

At this point, I think it's obvious they've pretty much given up on having non-Steam versions of their newer games.
I believe the games will arrive here inevitably. But only after there's a final, stable version with all DLCs included and they're working on CKIII or EUV or HOV.

Truth be told, we've all their other Grand Strategy games here, except for their latest ones, who are still work-in-progress.

Maybe I can assist you? I run the EU3 in Wine just fine with no issues. Send me a chat message if you wish.

The bargain bin is actually the very best place for games to be in order to serve the publisher's best interest. At least, it used to be so several years ago. I know that because a long time ago, I remember reading a developer talking about the bargain bin subject to a news site. He said something to the effect of: all games become profitable once they go into the bargain bin, because that is when enormous masses of people start to buy them (and they never would have bought them at standard/high prices).

I wished they were available here, especially Crusader Kings II. However, Paradox has made very clear that their newer games are Steam-only now (at least CK2 had a non-Steam version at launch which has since been abandoned). Even the players get extremely enraged when someone dares to ask for a DRM-free version in the Paradox community forums.
