Thanks for bearing with us in this thread. We’d like to announce that today we’ve introduced the addition of new installers, with implemented GOG Galaxy client.

Like Destro described it back in May, we decided to separate the „new" and „classic” installers, for your choice. So if you don’t care about the features like achievements or cloud-saves and don’t want to use GOG Galaxy, you can download the „Classic Game Installer", just like it was handled before. For games that have new installers, the default download view on „My account” will show the "GOG Galaxy Game Installers" - you will notice that, as it is visibly described in „My account” game view. To download the „classic” ones, just go to „Options" and choose „Classic Installers”.

The new GOG Galaxy Game Installers were added to +100 games - a selection of all games that make use of GOG Galaxy features. I'll post the current list of games with the new installers in a separate post.
Going forward, all new games that will use GOG Galaxy features, will now receive both GOG Galaxy Game Installer and Classic Game Installer.

Introduction of GOG Galaxy Game Installers doesn’t change anything in terms of keeping the Classic Game Installers up to date. As soon as we receive an update for any game, we will prepare an updated version of the classic installer, just like it was done in the past.

Edit: Pinned.

richlind33: How many non-CDPR games are sold exclusively on GOG?
There are quite a few games sold here that are not available on Steam:

Some games are even published under the GOG Ltd brand, meaning GOG has the rights to them and Steam will likely never get them.

This entire website wouldn't exist if not for people wanting a place where they weren't forced to use a client.

DoctorGOGgles: I'm tempted to not only downvote, but report it as spam too, since it is such blatant advertising for the Galaxy client...

tinyE: I already did.
As much as I understand it, that's not a good idea. There's a lot of useful feedback in this thread and it shouldn't get deleted, because people are angry.

Ok, bad news it is. I buy games on gog because their installers are completely autonomous and standalone. That is : when gog will die, or when galaxy will die, it will make no difference for my installers. There will be no deadend option to tick off. I appreciate when old installers don't ask questions about Gamespy or stuff like that. Looks like Galaxy is the new Gamespy parasite.

A bit of a dick move, especially when added to the growing pile of "galaxy is not EXACTLY obligatory but".

Oh and this is assuming that the option is just a link to install it from the internet. Because if the galaxy installer is pre-downloaded within the game installer, this is : pure bloatware.

While I am a Galaxy user I cannot say this is a bad idea in concept. Some people may want to download the client with the game for personal/other reasons (liking the gui of the client, multiplayer games, auto-updating some games, cloud saves for some games, etc.)

I don't agree however that it should have the client checked by default if you want to still have a reputation of having an optional client. I understand that the games themselves do not need Galaxy to run, however it sort is removing a bit of trust that the user doesn't want to use Galaxy for whatever reason.

The other part about this that I don't get about this is that if Galaxy is supposed to be optional, why would installing it along with a person's game by default make them want to use Galaxy in the future. It seems as if you are just trying to add another piece of software onto the computer.

The game offine installer should be just that. The offine installer of games. Not the client.

I feel you could have another step in the installation prompt advertising Galaxy's pros without it being checked to install by default. Or a link to the Galaxy page after the installation is done.

Please consider this for the future.

As soon as I did it I realized it was a mistake. As someone mentioned earlier, GOG wants it to be spam deleted. That way they can claim that, as there are no posts complaining about this, they can go ahead with it as planned.

These are apparently the games that are sold here and not on Steam. I haven't seen a list of only games that are exclusively sold on GOG, though. But it's a subset of those in that mix.

I'm getting a little tired of telling people there are some who can't use a client.

Just scrolling down that list, I see the Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition games. They're most certainly available on Steam.

That mix is outdated I believe, the link I gave above is more current I think... though it looks to be outdated some too.

Any idea of what the price averages out to?

Upon closer inspection, I believe Grargar has the there because the Steam versions don't include the originals like they do here.

RogerAXS: They have already communicated quite clearly what they think of their average customers:

"As for the option being opted in as default - after careful consideration, we've decided to go with this because we believe that it's easier for an experienced user to uncheck the box than it would be for a new user to figure out how to turn the feature on."
Maybe GOG could license this song for use as background music to be played on a loop while their installers install.

I didn't realize that was Grargar's list, yea that one might be pretty accurate then. :D

richlind33: Steam does Steam infinitely better than GOG does.

HunchBluntley: These days, GOG isn't even very good at doing GOG well, let alone doing Steam.
You'd think they'd know that, eh? o.O

All I can say is, Cyberpunk 2077 had better be MONSTROUSLY successful.
