Thanks for bearing with us in this thread. We’d like to announce that today we’ve introduced the addition of new installers, with implemented GOG Galaxy client.

Like Destro described it back in May, we decided to separate the „new" and „classic” installers, for your choice. So if you don’t care about the features like achievements or cloud-saves and don’t want to use GOG Galaxy, you can download the „Classic Game Installer", just like it was handled before. For games that have new installers, the default download view on „My account” will show the "GOG Galaxy Game Installers" - you will notice that, as it is visibly described in „My account” game view. To download the „classic” ones, just go to „Options" and choose „Classic Installers”.

The new GOG Galaxy Game Installers were added to +100 games - a selection of all games that make use of GOG Galaxy features. I'll post the current list of games with the new installers in a separate post.
Going forward, all new games that will use GOG Galaxy features, will now receive both GOG Galaxy Game Installer and Classic Game Installer.

Introduction of GOG Galaxy Game Installers doesn’t change anything in terms of keeping the Classic Game Installers up to date. As soon as we receive an update for any game, we will prepare an updated version of the classic installer, just like it was done in the past.

Edit: Pinned.

Breja: Still no response as to why we can't decide which installers to display as default. Still no response as to why information about the classic installers can't be displayed on the download page, even though doing so would cost GOG nothing. It's literally adding one sentence there. But no. No action, no response, nothing. This isn't about doing us a favor. It's GOG's damn obligation to keep all the customers well informed, not just the ones who visit this thread. And the days go by...

Seriously, how can this be interpreted by anyone as anything else than GOG intentionally wanting to hide the classic installers in order to push Galaxy?
This!
I've had it!
Good-bye my computer.
Kid you not my pc components are for sale on Craigslist for the past hour.

Thank you so much CDPR for listening to us!

P.s. Can I sell my catalogue back to Galaxy for a discount since I won't have nothing to play Galaxy games on?

Agrilla: It is Sunday. We probably have to wait for them to go on work first.
So lets hope for a nice respond in the morrow :D
Is that why their installers for SNK games and Shadow Warrior Redux are not there? It feels like an eternity already. But yes, I agree again with all the points mentioned up there, especially that of Executor's. That GOG is doing nothing to inform the user that....things can be done without Galaxy as it is, indeed, optional.

What GOG is doing instead is make Galaxy appear, actually, optional-if-you-find-out-how.

Again, I'm not against the principal behind the move, more Galaxy awareness. However, their execution could be optimized, as has been said time and again. Same goal, less effort on everyone's part, less space wasted...
Did they recently add messages more explicitly indicating which installers you're about to download or they've been there and I couldn't see them because I was using Adalia Fundamentals? Talking about "GOG GALAXY GAME INSTALLERS" and "CLASSIC GAME INSTALLERS".

Those messages were there already.

I didn't even realize it had new posts since it's always greyed out for some reason.

Why isn't this a blue announcement thread?

Because the last thing they want to do is help people avoid their "optional" client. o.O
2 examples to why I do not like Galaxy.

"The Shadowrun Returns galaxy update did break the installer for the dragonfall DLC.

Posibly single player Copy Protection that likely slipped thru GOG's quality control.

edit.
And a third and for me really the most important one:
The copy protection of the multiplayer part of some games is likely something blue have to accept for some of the games here. without it they wold not have been here i guess.
Thus automatic matchmaking over LAN (without logon) is not implementer inside galaxy. And probably never will be.

edit.
Some might agree to this other might not. I got no problem with that.
For me. Things first start to be real nasty when GOG tries to force-feed us/me with Galaxy.
By default building it into all the installers.

/regards

That confused me too after I first posted in it, but it's because the OP is low rated. Threads with low rated OPs are always greyed out.

I like my GOG Installers simple & clean, non-bloated, DRM-Free and client-free.

Please, don't mess with them, and don't make it hard to find the clean installers... is already enough to not have notifications for chat and forum, and now this?! (ಠ╭╮ಠ) (;一_一)

Goddamnit. So now I have to switch which installer I download using a hidden button in the "more" menu for every single fucking game? Also one that reverts for the same game on closing the game card in the library? That does NOT sound "fully optional" to me! Now we just have two different points at which we can opt-out, and the first is well-hidden. Wonderful.

At least there's no Linux Galaxy, so I only have to check for the games that I'd be running Windows versions of in Wine. Gah.

Yep, totally didn't notice and accidentally downloaded a Galaxy installer version of Turok 2. Had redownload and use up more of my internet cap. :/

That really sucks. =/ Seriously, just about any reasonable solution would be fine, but this? This is madness.

I'm just wondering how long it'll take before itch.io is the superior DRM-free store, even with its weaker selection. Open-source client that runs on Linux, and can download from the website just fine, with zero hassles. Add to that the fact that we have never seen them disrespect their customers in this way, and it's looking quite appealing. If GOG doesn't go back to its old principles, it's living on borrowed time. That's my prediction.

Why should the new customer base, that is too challenged to find the Galaxy download, stop spending money by something as difficult as customer rights? xD
