Thanks for bearing with us in this thread. We’d like to announce that today we’ve introduced the addition of new installers, with implemented GOG Galaxy client.

Like Destro described it back in May, we decided to separate the „new" and „classic” installers, for your choice. So if you don’t care about the features like achievements or cloud-saves and don’t want to use GOG Galaxy, you can download the „Classic Game Installer", just like it was handled before. For games that have new installers, the default download view on „My account” will show the "GOG Galaxy Game Installers" - you will notice that, as it is visibly described in „My account” game view. To download the „classic” ones, just go to „Options" and choose „Classic Installers”.

The new GOG Galaxy Game Installers were added to +100 games - a selection of all games that make use of GOG Galaxy features. I'll post the current list of games with the new installers in a separate post.
Going forward, all new games that will use GOG Galaxy features, will now receive both GOG Galaxy Game Installer and Classic Game Installer.

Introduction of GOG Galaxy Game Installers doesn’t change anything in terms of keeping the Classic Game Installers up to date. As soon as we receive an update for any game, we will prepare an updated version of the classic installer, just like it was done in the past.

Edit: Pinned.

tfishell: I'm curious: is anyone here not buying GOG games anymore (like budejovice said above) because of this or another recent issue?
Yep, stopped buying when this was announced. Haven't brought anything since SR:4. Not even downloaded any updates since then. Had slowed down buying things for at least 6 months prior as the games were garbage. Would normally have brought throne of darkness without even thinking, did though, will stick with my disc image and nocd.

Edit, sorry about the multiples, idiot me forgot to turn WiFi on the phone on, so it was not going through!

Stryder2931: How will the game updates work for those *not* using Galaxy. Will we get the updates the same time as Galaxy users?
On of the main point of Galaxy was to be able to get updates faster than before then there was only offline patches.

But usually (i.e. unless there is screw up somewhere) the offline patches should be available maximum a couple of days after the Galaxy one.

I took a bunch of stuff off my wishlist (the titles that were supposed to get the Galaxy installer included) when they announced this, and had pretty much decided I was done with GOG if they were intent on going this route with no compromise and no alternative. Since they've decided to go with the much sillier and more work-intensive scheme of having two different installers, I'll continue to shop here for now, albeit probably more like the way I shop on Steam: only buying at a deep discount - no more release day or full-price purchases.

When GOG decides that keeping two installer versions is too much work and doesn't have a cost/benefit ratio to justify continuing with the two versions - as they inevitably will - then, sadly, I'll be done with them and move on to some of the other DRM-free digital shops.

Obviously still a costumer, in fact just bought afew from the several promos currently running. Would have gotten more, but alas, Oblivion was averted this week, and ive been recently in a "hard to enjoy gaming" mood.

As to the why, is simple enough, this is still a drm free store for single player games, despite all the noise, and regarding the specific issue of the installers: 1 - they havent changed, 2 - even if they had changed as originally intended, i could still not install Galaxy if i didnt want to, or if i somehow missed it and installed it, i wouldnt need to use it for offline play, and i could just as easily uninstall it.
The only potential issue i have with the installers would be the increased size on my backup drives wich would amount to several GB. But leaping from that to call them infested with malware or DRM is quite a stretch.

Regarding Gwent, i'm in a "wait and see" stance for the single player campaigns.

Pretty much exactly this word for word, except for the Steam part (I don't use that at all and never will).
Thanks for the responses, they're interesting to read.

To answer your prior question.... Since the announcement I purchased one game I have had my eye on for quite some time, before Galaxy was supposed to be packaged in the games.

Now I am very hesitant to purchase any more games based of GOG's decision. If they keep true and keep the games DRM / client free, I will continue to purchase. If not, I stop buying games, and start working on my backlog instead.

I've cleared my wishlist & stopped buying despite the fact there have some games in which I was interested on sale at great prices the last couple of weeks. For me it's been a culmination of things "here & there" over the past couple of years, but the disabling of web browser notifications (which weeks later still haven't been restored) plus these recent attempts at trying to trick those who want offline installers into installing Galaxy and the intelligence insulting excuses being bandied about as justification for doing so was the "final straw" for me. In the absence of GOG making a public headline announcement linked on the front page giving a definitive date for the restoration of web browser notifications and that there will be no Galaxy installers or stubs in the offline installers, I have no plans to ever purchase anything from GOG in the future.

If GOG wants to be "Steam Lite" I have no desire to further fund the folly of trying to "out Steam" Steam. GOG should be mindful of what worked well for them before the release of the Witcher 3 and Galaxy & not be so quick to "throw the customers under the bus" that kept them afloat the first 6 years of their existence in their shortsighted attempts at forcing into the lowest common denominator in trying to vendor lock-in more "client kiddies".

EDIT: I'll just throw in that I'm not judging one way or the other, I am genuinely interested.
In short no....

Slightly longer........ purchasing has dwindle, that's because i find less to my liking to purchase.
Nothing to do with the current heading, awaiting new things to buy.
We haven't even arrived at the point of seeing a offline installer ( none classic ) version yet.
To early to tell how gog will handle it all.......will reassess as we go along.
With that said if things do go pear shaped i will stop all purchases.

Could have sworn they stopped because NAZIS...

Try again?
Been a couple of weeks since a blue posted, any progress on those "classic" installers?
