Will the news on Disney exiting video games publishing impact their published games here on GOG?

The latest addition being Shadows of the Empire... ?

EDIT: Added link.

Could it perhaps lead to more releases from them here? No doubt it will affect the company releasing new content, but GOG waltzing in, doing all the legwork and offering the "mouse" pure profit on classic software might be even more appealing now.

Well they said that they're focusing on being a licensor for their IP, like licensing new Star Wars franchise to EA. So hopefully they're also more receptive of selling their back catalogue on GOG.
How I read it is that they won't make games anymore (as in invest money in development), but they are still interested in monetizing their IPs.

Could those of us that have no idea what said news are get a link?
Haven't heard of this before... Was there any particular reason? Simply not enough profit, I take it?

"Disney says they plan to continue licensing their properties to other video game publishers but will no longer make their own console games."

Seems like it won't have any effect on the Lucasarts titles here on gog if I understand that correctly.

I doubt it will have any effect on their already-existing back catalog, either here, or on other digital stores.

Predominantly, it is because of lagging sales of Disney Infinity. While the first game proved rather successful, they saw diminishing returns on the second and third entries. On top of that, the figurine sales have become quite stagnant, which costs the company a lot of money because they either have to sit on a bunch of stock for longer than they planned or cut their profits by discounting them.

At the end of the day, Disney is a film studio. Video game development isn't their main focus. Heck, it isn't even their secondary focus. I am very happy to hear that proper video game companies like Activision, Sega and Capcom will have the opportunity to make Disney/LucasFilm/Marvel games again.

I was under the impression that most of their gaming related business endeavors were quite successful. But I guess, them being the global super corporation they are, they probably have a completely different idea of ( commercial ) success. Oh well.

I think Disney is overreacting and I feel bad for the 300 people losing their jobs at Avalanche Software. I can understand discontinuing Disney Infinity, but getting out of the game publishing business entirely?
They'll be back. Disney CEO's have a surprisingly high turnover rate.

A pity. Would've been nice to see more games take advantage of Disney's animation department.

Also, "lol" at the 'proper video game companies like Activision' part :D.

That's what I've thought when I've read the news. Could be not such a bad thing for us, but I wonder was that means for the FOTA Special Edition.
