Tallima: OP: GOG isn't quite as smooth as steam. But they have things steam does not. You can back up your games
ShadowAngel.207: Steam has a backup option for years now
Tallima: , install on multiple computers in your home (my brother and I try to get our whole family into a massive empire earth game every year or two) and galaxy has some neat options.
ShadowAngel.207: That is basically piracy. One copy, one pc not "i install it everywhere i want because i can and let other people play it. As i said, piracy, nothing else.
Actually Galaxy is still a pretty pathetic piece of shit, especially compared to Steam. Amazing considering Galaxy is nearly 3 years old, yet still looks and behaves like a very early beta.
You can back up some steam games. You can back up all gog games. Dr-free installers give that to you.
And as for piracy, it most certainly is not.
From gog support page:
Yes. We do not limit the number of installations or reinstallations, as long as you install your purchased games on computers in your household. So yeah, if you've got a render-farm in the basement, you might actually break the world record for the number of legal Witcher installations in one household. However, if you think about installing your game on a friend's machine or sharing it with others then please don't do it, okay? The same principle applies to movies - you're free to watch them anywhere you want, with anyone you want, as long as you don't share them with people who haven't purchased them.
If I purchase a multi-player game and I want to play it with my son and there are no multiplayer-drm issues (like nwn2), then I can play it. One purchase for your household.
Now if my son turns 18 and moves out, he'll have to buy his own copy.
In the case of my brother, his family and my family can play on two copies of empire earth. We all live under two roofs.
It's the way games were before the major drm-slap made it one copy per player. After that, they quit making couch co-op, started imposing serials for playing, and suddenly, a family had to shell out $200 for a game that used to cost $50 (thereby removing me from buying the game).
Anyhoots, I go by the one purchase per household. I don't see a point in buying my while family a copy of the game from each player when gog said it was fine.
