Thank you so much of reminding me of this space bar :D

Also, while looking for it I came across this weird scene

real.geizterfahr: Guys and girls, you do know that all that keeps those trolls alive is the attention you're giving them? There's an easy solution to all this crap:

- Kill the known scammers threads! They're useless. Everyone can create as many accounts as he wants. And nes won't enter giveaways with accounts called "rep-punisher" or "moronhunter" anyway. I'm sure he's got a shitload of accounts that aren't obvious alts. Every single scammer can create a new account if he ends up on this list.

- Follow the TBBBBoB ruleset! No visible forum activity outside of giveaways? No games for you! No scammer will maintain 10+ active accounts to raise his chance to get a $2 game for free. You see a giveaway without TBBBBoB rules? Hit the OP with a PM and tell him why this isn't a good idea.

- Reorganize the trading thread! Lower rep goes first, new members can ask trusted oldies to act as middlemen (send both codes to middleman to check if they're are valid). Ask Judas if he can sticky the OP to the top of every page (it's possible).

These are some very simple steps that would surely prevent 90%+ of scams.
Yeah, but it won't do anything for those of us with bots on our ass.
There are forum regs, valuable members of this community, who can't even post links anymore because of these assholes.

Heh! funny thing is that its one of the many traits of Tauto/gunsynd's posts which make it obvious its the same person so every post of his just reaffirms that. ;)

This is solid advice overall, but you are aware that this is only possible for GOG codes, right?

Really unfortunate that this happened to you but thanks for providing the info so that it serves as a caution for other folks.

Now this is exactly why we need such a thread, where else will duped community members report these pathetic scammers that are out to take advantage of this community by exploiting their generosity and trust. As I said before whoever finds this thread useless can just ignore it while others can protect themselves from being another gullible target by learning about shady users and imposters to avoid from this thread.

But the problem of low rep go first doesn't help either. Most of these scammers know the rep tricks. Already you have accounts posting silly topics and getting repped up likely to enter future giveaways. When the scammers are derepping others and uprepping themselves, honest people get scammed by these rules. A lot of newer members have been scammed in the past by that very same rule. It has been a problem in the past.

And there are accounts likely by nes, who are playing nice in the forums for a bit before pouncing on giveaways.

But the worst part of your post is the implication that people in this thread are at fault for the scammers. That part, you are full of shit. It's the same sort of thing as saying women are at fault for getting raped because of the way they dress. No, there is one group at fault, the scammers and rapists themselves. For you to fall for victim-blaming like so many others in these forums, serves little good.

And no, they aren't just here for the attention. They were here to steal games, got caught, and are now having a shit fit. Without the attention, they would merely be stealing games right and left. I guess that is the world you want...

The only way to combat thieves and scammers is through awareness. The public has to be informed about it. Do you think Nigerian scam E-mails would just go away if people quit talking about them? Do you think those scam artists who try to con old folks out of their money would go away if they weren't on the nightly news?

The amswer each and every time is to make the public aware, show examples of what the scammers are doing so others may avoid the same fate. To blame the victims, those trying to honestly trade games, or those being nice to the community by sharing games, is foolhardy and short-sighted.

Yeah, but this is the "Known Scammers" thread and not the "Known nes-alts used for downrepping" thread. I'm talking about ways to minimize scamming without starting lists with a shitload of unconfirmed names on it. Downrepping isn't something we can stop.

HypersomniacLive: This is solid advice overall, but you are aware that this is only possible for GOG codes, right?
I don't know. I've never traded or gifted any Steam keys or Humble stuff. But together with te "People I've successfully traded with" (or whatever it is called) thread and low rep goes first, it'll reduce scamming quite a bit. At least more than a list that has 50 nes-alts on it, which alone should show you how useful it is.

RWarehall: But the worst part of your post is the implication that people in this thread are at fault for the scammers.
What the fuck are you talking about?

Sorry, RWarehall, but I have to say it THAT clear now: You are an annoying piece of shit. Learn to read or leave me the fuck alone. You jump out of nowhere and start to insult pople for stuff that you read into their postings. Happened with me in the past, happened with hedwards yesterday or today and happened with others too quite often already. If we had a ignore list on GOG, you'd be the first person I'd add.

Guess whatever you want. But be assured that nes and Wakalo aren't entering any giveaways with their shitmonkey, Gayraxpt, nes4000 or WakaloX accounts. They have these accounts to enjoy the drama they can start with one single "Haha, I've downrepped you" post.

And yes, of course I want a world where everyone can steal games. I've clearly said that in my post, didn't I? Idiot... Don't bother replying, because I want answer you anyway.

real.geizterfahr: snip
You are an annoying piece of shit telling others what they should do and telling people what threads they think should be closed. YOU are an asshole blaming the victims of this abuse.

You are the idiot. I gave perfect examples of why you and Hedwards are just plain wrong.

This thread and the past one have post after post of confirmed scammers, what they are doing to scam people, how they are going about it. This is great information for the public. And it does shed light on how nes operates.

So why don't YOU leave the rest of us the fuck alone. This thread serves a public service, and you are too fucking stupid to see it!
You guys are starting to make Tauto and Tort look civil. :P

And let's be really perfectly clear about another thing that Real.geizterfahr and Hedwards are getting COMPLETELY wrong.
Those lists are NOT composed of a whole bunch of innocent people. While its very possible a name here or there got included by association, those are by far the minority.

If you look at the OP, there are links to the original scams themselves, the more expansive list posted on the first page was good as well. Emachine's clearly made a mistake including tort1234 without any real proof, but so far, that seems to be the only mistake. There are not the tons of innocent people getting caught up in this that so many of our "concerned citizens" claim....

Instead, we get a whole bunch of "concerned citizens" who are trying to bully the thread into closing. Something that basically would only result in giving scammers free reign. And while these "concerned citizen" types may be too narrow-minded to see the usefulness of having a list of suspected nes alts, the rest of us can learn from what he's doing (such as copting existing user names and including zero's for the letter "O"s) and seeing the patterns in the language he uses...

But hey, "the concerned citizen brigade" wants the thread to close so everyone can be completely clueless to the scam artists...that would make all of you accomplices to each and every theft...

RWarehall: tons of innocent people
I'm not talking about tons of innocent people, but about a useless list full of throwaway accounts from nes400 and Wakalo. Read again what I wrote:

That's a huge difference. Again: Read before you start to scream.

real.geizterfahr:
And how about you read what others write. Oh right, only what YOU write and YOUR opinion really matter. And if someone disagrees they CLEARLY are not reading what you are writing...

Frankly, YOU ARE WRONG. They are not useless. They make people aware of this problem. They make people aware of the ways these jerks are attempting to scam people and knowledge is power. Yes, they can try to change their names, or create new alts, but the way they write and the way they attempt to scam will stay similar enough to be detected.

I've personally found these threads to be HIGHLY useful and have managed to generally avoid most of these ripoff artists from taking games I've given away. So for you to claim there is no value at all is foolish. This thread and the other have helped me a lot and I'm sure it has helped many others as well.

But let's look at the victim-blaming in this thread...going backwards...
Post 308 - You - "without starting lists with a shitload of unconfirmed names on it"
You have proof for this? Most of those names are pretty clearly nes alts. FACT!
Post 300 - You again - "Guys and girls, you do know that all that keeps those trolls alive is the attention you're giving them?"
Again bullshit. When you ignore a loudmouth troll or scammer, they tend to just get louder and more bold. Instead, you blame us for the scammers....you are wrong...
Post 295 - Hedwards - "All they're doing is playing into the hands of a handful of trolls. Providing a score board and a way of scumming up all the giveaways in the process." "but I do think people need to stop feeding the trolls. The scamming here is probably not even motivated by wanting the games at this point."
Again more bullshit blaming people for "feeding the trolls" and not blaming the trolls themselves....
Post 237 - Hedwards - A post full of made-up bullshit. Someone claims they are broke, take a game and the next day its on their trade list and Hedwards is claiming "its not proof" because they "could have" bought another copy. All this for his poorly thought out post about why the thread is useless...same bad arguments you are making now....

Instead, you and Hedwards want to blame the existence of this thread for all the current problems. Maybe you can also blame the media for the popularity of all the Nigerian phishing scams too. But I believe, and I think any thoughtful person will realize, the real problem are the scammers themselves. That publicizing their transgressions is helpful to the public. That publicizing it, does not make it worse. That it is indeed helping many of us to get our gifts to people who better deserve them. Without these threads, the scammers would be taking off with more games, not less.

Those lists are NOT composed of a whole bunch of innocent people.
Eh? I didn't ask the list to be closed and never said it's composed of innocent people. I was concerned with only tort's particular case:

avatar
ZFR: My own complaint was not the usefullness of the list or "cyberbullying", whatever that means, but one particular entry.
And asked for more transparent inclusion criteria.
More GOGlodyte drama. The alt. army must be enjoying this.

Popcorn anyone?
