I wasn't referring to the one in yogsloth's post, which indeed are all related to the incident. I was mentioning the ones in Azrael's post, which contained some private correspondance, and were edited out later (thanks for understading, Azrael).
My bad, then. Indeed, the poster should exercise editorial discretion with PMs, just never to the detriment of their allegation.

It amounts to the same thing, you run the risk of getting caught up in semantics.
I'm not arguing about the general definition of scammer.

I pointed out my working definition just for the purposes of this thread, which, if I'm correct, matches the very specific behaviour that caused this thread in the first place.

Let me get this:

- Yogsloth was approached by AcidFlux for a trade and he decided to do a good deed and gift the games instead of trading

- AcidFlux was grateful and even said, and i quote, "Omg! I can't wait to see my son's face when he sees this :D"

- AcidFlux then decided to trade the games for gems so that he can get some games from his Steam Wishlist?

I'm not even involved in this situation and i'm pissed, i mean, what the hell? How low can you be to accept an offer, SAY THAT YOUR SON WILL BE HAPPY FOR IT and proceed to trade A GIFT for other stuff?

This thread is the most entertaining thing I've read in a while. When it comes to their beloved giveaways, the users here even create a legislation of their own, demanding both rules and morality in a downright illegal activity like "trading". All the while resulting in an amount of drama and witch hunt that makes the Moscow Trials look tame. Hilarious.

obviously, by this he meant showing the game to him, then trading it for gems to get games for himself. To be honest, I would've liked to see the kid's face myself, too, after that.

I just had this mental image of someone with a velvet robe drinking whisky near his fireplace with a snobish accent, especially with the "Hilarious"...

On topic, if the users create a "legislation of their own, demanding both rules and morality" there must be a reason, no? And there's a big difference between gifting and "illegal trading", so i'm not sure the point of your drive-by post....

It's more me in agreement with Spinorial.....you did say " I can see his behaviour as wrong but not consider him a scammer"
It's both....if only " Honesty in trading or gifting should not be optional " was true.
No argument my friend, just a agreement as i said.
I carn't type any more (probably a good thing as i run the risk of sticking my foot in my gob)


FWIW - i'd say lock this thread before someone else is accused wrongly....mud sticks and all that.

I kinda wish to play the devil's advocate here - what if he did send the gift to his son, assumed he'll be thrilled, then actually got a mark of disapproval from his son: "What is this Gog $^t you gave me, I only want a pile of Steaming bla bla".
That would actually make sense in that case to trade the gift for something his son could actually use (aka gems are like a Steam gift card).

Not knowing the situation, he still made a mistake.

If the ungrateful little shit isn't happy, boo hoo, he needs to teach that entitled son of his that the world doesn't revolve around him, or his wishes. It's never too late to teach appreciation for a noble intent (the thought behind the gift), and, in so doing, he might just have given his son a greater gift, the gift of understanding and maturing a bit.

If not, let him stew in the reality of contrasting nothing, with something, and get him socks next year :-)
