darthspudius: You don't think so? It was a clear cash in, a very poorly made one. The kind of thing we use to get at McDonalds as kids. Great album though!
Cash in or no it was decent(enemy types, music placement on levels, most weapons, etc) mostly.....the ending and some other stuff was a bit lackluster, though.

Also fwiw chew quest was a cash in and it was good as well.
You sitlll use Windows 8, you deserve what you get.
Seriously, either downgrade to windows 7 or upgrade to windows 10. There are good reasons why Windows 8 was such a flop.

You realize this topic is ancient and was necroed, right? :)
lolol

I just saw the topic pop up and was like,

yo

I wish I could get all my old CD+ titles to run, too!

And then I opened the thread

and was like

oh

I guess I still feel that way

InfraSuperman: Sounds like it might have similar issues to those found in Shogo, which have to do with Windows 8's awful DirectDraw compatibility/emulation.
Supposedly, people were able to get Shogo to run properly with the dgVoodoo 2 wrapper. Maybe it helps in this case, as well.
I also have KISS: Psycho Circus and this worked a charm!

OMG you are amazing you just helped me get a game running i haven't been able to play in years <3

Felizzpe: Hi, I released a patch to fix all these bugs for KPC in Windows 8 / 8.1 / 10

Just search in moddb for:

"Kiss Psycho Circus The Nightmare Child (Windows 10 Patch)"
Hey mate
I downloaded that patch but now the game just crashes to desktop after I press "play".
Any ideas?
I just saw this thread pop up, read only the title, and thought to myself, shit, I'd kill to be able to run all my CD+ discs from the mid-90s, but Redbook shitcanned that the day after that technology came out.

and then I opened the thread and was like

oh

Awesome, man! Thanks for your efforts! Muito obrigado!

So great seeing this game receiving love and attention even 20 years later!

P.S. The only issue left for me at least is that mouse input could feel smoother. It's definitely not a direct input with a high polling rate. Perhaps a limitation of the old Lithtech engine, but if anyone knows some tweaking tips, then feel free to share them here.

Did you try adjusting your mouse's settings like DPI and such?

What about turning on or off VSync?

VSync doesn't seem to have an effect, neither does the polling rate (at least 125 vs. 750 doesn't make a difference). DPI (dots per inch) is just the degree to which detected movement is translated into mouse movement (mouse sensitivity). Some older games seem to have difficulties with high polling rates (number of times within a second that movement is measured and sent to the system).

My personal bet is presumably something like the refresh rate and / or maximum framerate of the game. The autoexec.cfg from the Win10 patch has "maxfps" "60" which could prevent the game from reaching framerates that the physics and or input system cannot properly handle anymore. I think I got this aspect fixed - however, the mouse doesn't feel perfectly smooth, as if the game would only process like 30 mouse polls per second or something. You can analyze this by moving the cursor within the game menu. You will probably see a lot less instances compared to your mouse cursor on desktop.

Edit: A rep of -1792?? How did that happen?

Hi, I tested in Windows 8.1 and 10 and never had crashes. This patch only works if you install your CD game in Setup Type "Custom" then select all options like [Executable Files] [Game Data] [Movie Files] [Music Files] [StrategyGuide] so it will install all files in your HD and you will be able to play without CD perfectly using this Patch. If you installed over a minimum CD instalation or a RIP pre-installed version found in many web pages to download it may not work. Cause as it uses no cd patch it requires all the files installed directly in your HD.

Another possible cause is Video Resolution, try other resolutions cause I config in this patch to use as default 1024x768. So run your game running "psycho.exe" then click at "Display" and test another video resolution

You can also change the primary and secondary GPU in "Display" at the left side you will find something like:

Displays:
Primary Video Driver (display)
Intel(R) HD Graphics Family (\\.\DISPLAY1)

So the first option (display) is the primary GPU, the (\\.\DISPLAY1) is the secondary GPU

It's mostly trolls using bots to low rate me, cuz they don't like me personally.
(I used to have 240+ positive rep a year ago, then they tanked it)

Thanks for the interesting info that you posted, btw.
