nightcraw1er.488: There is no debate, there is only arguments from your point. DRM stands for digital rights management. How you interpret that, or gog interprets that, or anyone is really anyone’s guess. There are some areas where most would agree, securom, denuvo, CEG etc. But after that it starts to grey. From my side gwent is designed from the ground up as drm, anything which is online only has no rights from the user. I am very hardline on this, clients, cloud saves, streaming, in fact anything which requires control outside I put under (and read this very carefully before complaining folks) the same umbrella as drm. I am not saying they are drm, just that they can be used as such and involve third party control.
Others do not hold these lines, and in fact are far softer on what they think. As you can see through the thousands of forum posts on this kind of topic, it will simply descend into factionalised arguments.

Jonaselder: Thanks for your insightful comment!

You are right there is probely quite few already existing forum posts about this topic already. But its never bad to have refreshing new updated topic of that disscution even though the results are the same.
but you are not discussing anything... your own contribution so far have been limited to "thank you for the comment"...

Imho most afraid of drm are anarchists preparing for the end of the civilization. I dunno why they think they will be able to still play on their pc.

Or they could be collectors who want to own their collection.
Or they could be people with bad internet connection.
Or people who have had bad experiences of drm in the past.
Or people who remember physical copies rather than steam codes.
Or they could be hipsters wanting a steam away from steam.

But no, do go ahead and jump to conclusions...

Wow - such complete nonsense. If this is the case you either also one of those "anarchists" and it begs the question what you are doing here since DRM'd stores have so much more to offer ... maybe you just like to troll? But wait ... that would be a baseless accusation/assumption - just like yours.

As others said: GOG is not DRM-free where Multiplayer-games are concerned. Only single-player games are still all DRM-free. So GOG is definitely not "100% DRM-free", as they like to pretend.

Most is not all , learn to understand what others write before you jump into false assumptions.

Even "most" is bull - sorry. People want to have freedom, that's the reason for DRM-free - not the fear of the and of the world. Maybe you should stop making assumptions yourself.

Why? I could be wrong that's why it is called assumption, not fact. I buy here if it is cheap and for steam to have a competitor.

Essentially ALL of GOG's Single Player games(except Gwent) are DRM free and can be played without a client, whereas all Multi Player offered through games sold on GOG must(afaik) go through their client.

Except that depending on how the multiplayer was originally implemented, some games can and do work just fine on LAN or even over the internet without the Galaxy client.

Most* of the problematic games have either been designed to connect to some now defunct centralized hubs or their developers have used Steam's services to handle some parts of the multiplayer "stuff" in their games and then just swapped them with the Galaxy API for various reasons, like suspecting that their sales on GOG might not be enough to cover the time and money spent on developing a client free multiplayer support for their game.

* I think there may also have been some cases where a game with the old IPX protocol has been made to work through the Galaxy client, in which case I hope that the client just offers an emulation layer so that the real IPX support is still intact in such games for anyone who wishes to set up a LAN session with a few old computers.
