Yep, I can confirm that. I've been warned for the use of derogatary language when I called Twitter people who demanded that Linko90 gets fired "re...dacted" (<- I didn't call 'em that, but something else that also begins with "re" and ends with "ted").

That's the only warning I got, though. And I've made excessive use of swear words and directly attacked some "special friends" I have here more than once (<- people I really don't like because of what they did when forums were unmoderated and completely went to shit). If you ask me, GOG's still too lenient when it comes to moderation. I would've given someone like me (but not just me) a temporary ban already...

But again: Of what I've seen so far, chandra's doing a splendid job (love the factual tone and the multiple and fair warnings before closing threads). But that's how all new mods started before we drove them mad :/

An actual journalist has confirmed it. Ian is most certainly biased without a doubt - but he does follow actual journalistic practices. If he says he has a source within GoG I believe him.

Is deleting bad threads a solution? No. That's almost like erasing history simply because "we don't like it, and want to bury it.

Is the moderation here on GOG impeding my "free "peach""? No. Long answer: inconsistencies asides (and I'm sure others will agree), the forums here are much more "loose" kontra steam. In spite of my certain disdane for authorities, in the end I have to agree with Linko and the relative simple rules on GOG; no perverse swearing, no name calling (direct ad hominems), no excessive politics - and that sorts.

One could argue that "The Rise of Digital Authoritarianism " are becoming more and more of a problem in the west, but again; GOG IS after all just a company that sells games and they just happens to have a forum, and we do have hundreds of *chan's to further exploits our need for talking about politics... and other things.

Just imagine if GOG took the same path as Netflix did just to hamper any negative reviews? O_o

If that means GOG's forum (depsite what the OP claims) are alot less restrictive than Steam's then I agree.

Steams forums are pretty much under lock and key and also very toxic (why would you even post there.) Here there is some level of moderation (which is needed) and not as toxic.

Personally i dont consider it lazy programming, to me it serves as an indicator of the quality of the community.
Got my first negative rep over a thread that i made long ago asking to be able to skip updates and be able to return to previous unupdated versions of the game. Was flamed by the community for my "horrible" idea, got negative rep and subsequently left the GoG forums for years. The irony that my hated suggestion was actually implemented :P

Came back few days ago to look for answers to some technical issues, somehow had positive rep again, made this thread and im back to negative rep.

Dont care about the rep, but to me, comparing the Steam and GoG forums, its obvious how the voting system fails and how it gets abused.

You realise that saying that Steam forums are under lock and key and also toxic is a contradiction, right?

Also it depends on your perception of what toxic is.
To me some foul mouthed kiddies talking smack in forums doesnt count as toxic. Its noisy and irritating but not toxic.
Also i found that i could have more constructive debates with young and aggressive users than with some mature ones.
With a bit of patience and reason you can get a kid out of their foul mouthed rage, while no amount of patience and reason will take a mature out of their camouflaged aggression, where they take everything personally and act offended out of their minds and entitled to offend with impunity.

If the mods see it then they will lock it in certain forums sure. But in most of the times they dont. (My point is I see alot more locked topics there then I do here.)

Certain developers arnt active on steam and get thrown alot of abuse as well, yet do they step in no. I ask something about a game there even on their forums (I replied to something about Quantum Break years back) and ill usually gte nothing or mouthed off too. Where as you ask that here annd you wount.

And it shouldnt take paitence. Time after time I see alot of silly things asked there cause their no mod.

I salute your post. Such worthy contribution, and it makes me regret all the more that I didn't join GOG many years ago, considering the calibre of character shown of those from your GOG era.
Who knows though how long I would have stuck around during the "dark ages", but it would have been worth it.
