UPDATE: We've added a new option to the Privacy settings in GOG Profiles - from now on you can turn off your profile on GOG entirely, so no one can see any kind of information that is shown on the profile page. This also means that when you turn off your profile, you won’t be visible on your friends’ friends lists, even if they decide to keep their profiles visible.
The option to enable/disable your GOG Profile can be found in your account „Privacy & Settings” options, under „Privacy” tab.

We just introduced a new feature on GOG.COM: User Profiles – a social way to share what you and your friends are up to. See what your friends on GOG are playing, achieving, and sharing across four sections – Feed, Profile, Games and Friends.

Your Feed is the centerpiece of your Profile. Here, you’ll see which games your friends have been playing, all sorts of achievements and milestones, as well as general thoughts, screenshots, and forum activity. You can dispense your approval at whim and share your own stuff as well!

Your Profile is all about you and your gaming accomplishments. It's a summary of your activity, like the time you've spent in your games , your latest achievements (and just how rare they are among other users), as well as a glimpse at what your most active friends have been up to.

If you want to know more about your Games, you need to hit the the third tab. It contains a list of all the games you own on GOG, together with stats like time spent in-game and your progress towards unlocking the achievements. Sort the list, compare stats with your friends, and get some healthy competition going.

Finally – your Friends: get a general summary of their achievements and hours played. Here you'll also see which games are the most popular among your friends right now, so you can join them in multiplayer or find something you might enjoy yourself.

Of course, your profile comes with some sweet personalization options, choose a wallpaper from your game collection and share a few words with the world.

User Profiles are available for all GOG.COM users. Your personal gameplay stats like achievements, time played and milestones depend on GOG Galaxy, but if you’re not using the optional client you can still use the feed, post in it and interact with your friends.

Launching profiles also means adding new privacy settings on our end. You'll find three new Privacy options in your account's „Privacy & settings” area. These settings allow you to set the visibility for your profile summary, your games, your friends, etc.
So what are you waiting for? There's so much room for activities!

Expressed the decline of my relationship with GOG in various ways, over those past three years – including to GOG themselves directly. Bought nothing here since June 2016 (a DLC). Emptied my wishlist (now public). Let Humble Bundle and Itch.IO entertain me. Checked forums less and less. Concluded that GOG as a whole had simply become an empty shell to me.

April 23rd news (its strewn with ominous elements, as noted by [url=https://www.gog.com/forum/general/introducing_gog_profiles_a393f/post1064]Terraja) still felt like a shiver, but I took GOG's bluntly sharp new idea at face (:O) value...

Dead set against it ? Hmm, every blade has two edges, so I put GOG's brazen novelty into play after seeing some intriguing posts...

MariusHispano: I find it sad that the small group of users always come to annoy the rest when a new feature is added criticizing it when everything is optional but they seem to want to decide the characteristics of gog when they are a minority group of users because of which many users do not talk regularly in this forum and in other forums (I think we all know these foreros).
avatar
xyem: Says the person who has supported GOG to the tune of 8 games in 3 years.
Who are you to criticise the people voicing their complaints that have supported GOG way more than you have?
(How many times do I get to do this before the point sinks in, I wonder?)
avatar
MariusHispano: Me and my brother have two accounts, one of them with more than 100 games. In his day spoke in this forum with the other account and that small group of users to me and other users humiliated us for not thinking like them. They are a minority but they do not respect anyone and they have been talked about in various forums.
And yes of course you can complain, I agree that the level of privacy of the profiles should improve but I see absurd those who want to eliminate them when they are options. Gog.com is creating a solid platform, with achievements, cloud save, friends, profiles ... I can only congratulate you because it is what most users have been asking for years.
But yes, I hope they improve the privacy options, that everyone decides they want to show seems fair even if they ask for a minority of users.
avatar
MariusHispano: What is the problem that Gog adds achievements or profiles that have been so requested in the community?
Beyond the issue of privacy that you have to solve I do not know how it affects some users that others have those options when they are not mandatory. Does someone force you to use gog galaxy? To use achievements, clud save ...? . They are optional¡¡¡
The gog problem is the small group of users who are trying to impose their orders on others when gog galaxy is optional.
I do not force you to use the achievements, who are you to force others not to use them? You can buy your game and not use gog galaxy, why do other users have to do the same? Respect others as others respect you.
However the subject of privacy have to improve it seems to me very important
avatar
boztix: What you say is false:
I have about 150 games in my other account. In the forum where I speak, there are users with more than 200 games. Many of us have been in gog, some practically since it started.
But you say that the original clients do not want this which is false, in this same forum there are people who buy gog games from their origins that has no problem with options like achievements, profiles, cloud save ... because we can continue Having drm free games, we are not required to use achievements or cloud save but we want.
Now gog is aimed at more users but nobody has been excluded, there are a few users like you who want to exclude the rest.
When 11 users (yes 11, it's laughable) decide that you're not going to buy back in gog, why, games do not have drm, there is no mandatory galaxy, everything is optional and I do not doubt that the subject of privacy It will improve. But I explain it to you, you want to forbid others to have options that do not affect you, that do not force you to have to use them. […] I also say one thing, guys from gog.com improve privacy options, whether they are 700 votes or 3000, privacy is basic.
I also congratulate gog for the profiles, great¡¡¡

HeartsAndRainbows: […] The way MariusHispano and boztix interact with the posts in this thread, the fact that they seem to have similar struggles with the English language, their odd "My other account is made out of pure gold but I'm not posting with it" statements and their shared inability (faked or real) to understand what has been told to them for about 5 times each suggest to me that these are both smurf accounts of the same person. The developer of Startup company abandons the development of the game in gog
According to a user who has talked with him, he will focus exclusively on the steam version. Users who have purchased the game in gog will have a key for the steam version. The developer has contacted gog but the response is slow. He is not the first developer to complain about gog in many aspects. Well the truth is a pity. I once could talk to a developer who complained that he did not understand the criteria of gog not to admit his game (although the developer is very happy with his sales in steam). Hopefully confirmation by gog.com, but if true it is unfortunate that the gog users who bought the free game of drm are abandoned

Thq nordic adds achievements to your gog games and treats gog users with the same respect as steam users It's sad to see how companies that make money on gog do not add to their games the same options that they add to their steam games. There are many complaints that there have been because thq nordic does not add achievements in their versions of gog and yes they add them in steam.Pero also because the support that gives their games in steam is superior to the support that it offers to their gog games when we pay the same price. Here in gog the achievements are one of the most claimed options by users as you can see in the wish list: https://www.gog.com/wishlist/galaxy/offline_achievements https://www.gog.com/wishlist/galaxy/put_point_on_the_achievementsput_score_on_the_achievements In the forums of gog they have been asked to add achievements but Thq nordic has never responded even though many users by email have asked them to treat us just like the users of steam

Can the microsoft xboxone / store gamepass end stores like gog? That's my doubt. Surely in the future stores like steam also have a service like the gamepass and be a success. The success of these services would mean the success of the drm, that the games would no longer be owned, probably the permanent connections and the end of the physical market. It is very sad in my opinion.

StarCrawlers without achievement and saved in the cloud in gog. But with achievements and saved in the cloud in steam. Do not buy it

2017 May 24 post 25
Several users in this post buy by the game, the achievements or the game in the cloud. I do not know why you have to insult me by asking that the versions of the gog games are the same as the versions of the games in steam On the wish list there are many votes on this topic I like gog, I believe in the games without drm and I hope that in the future all the games are without drm But for users to buy in gog games have to have the same options as in steam
2017 May 24 post 28
Yes the drm is still better than the achievements but the gog guys are doing a great job with gog galaxy it is very easy to implement achievements and game in the cloud. If a developer does not put achievements or game in the cloud in gog is by idleness. I have a group in steam and every day more users buy in gog if the versions are the same.
By the way, featurette...

AnaisWitcher STARTED THAT TOPIC (StarCrawlers without achievement and saved in the cloud in gog […] Do not buy it)...

2017 May 23 post 1
Many users are tired. If you sell a game in gog sell it with the same characteristics as in steam because we pay the same price. I do not know why in steam there are games with saved in the cloud and achievements and here in gog developers do not want to put it, it is a lack of respect. If you are going to do that sell it cheaper but do not be ashamed to sell it at the same price.
AnaisWitcher POSTED in MariusHispano's "I'm tired of a lot of gog games have no achievements and cloud save when the versions of steam have them" topic...

2017 July 05 post 10
We are many users who have asked in several post and in the wish list that games in gog have added as achievements or cloud save. This does not mean that we have to go to steam because we want achievements or cloud save in addition to the free drm games. In the wish list there is a very popular vote on this topic. I agree with this user that gog games should have achievements, cloud save and overlay among other additions. In addition, the more games sold in gog more developers will sell their free drm games and add-ons such as achievements, overlay or cloud save help sell the game on this platform instead of steam

boztix also POSTED in MariusHispano's "I'm tired of a lot of gog games have no achievements and cloud save […]" topic...

2017 July 05 post 19
There is a large community of users who like achievements. And gog versions should bring them. I know many users who buy a game for the achievements and not for the drm (I know, this is absurso but it is the reality). I agree with marius, developers should add achievements or overlay. Although for me most importantly esque they add cloud save because I travel a lot […] On the other hand I do not understand the lack of respect of two or three users since he is only asking for more responsibility from the developers and that favors all gog users.
2017 July 05 post 49
That's a lie. Many users want games without drm but we also want achievements, cloud save, play online with our friends, have a user profile without having to be subjected to the abuses of platforms like steam. The example can be seen in the wish list every time you put a request to add achievements to games or score to achievements has thousands of votes. What is making gog grow is its galaxy platform coupled with its no drm policy. If one does not want achievements, neither galaxy can play without them but the reality esque most gog users use gog galaxy and that is no coincidence.
2017 July 06 post 77
I agree on what you and other users are talking about achievements. If a game has achievements in steam those achievements must be added to its gog version. And there should be a profile where to show the achievements. The example esque offline request for achievements has more than 2000 votes in gog, and those are 2000 sales of A game. Other requests like adding points to the achievements are also successful. But it is also very important to add other options such as clud save, overlay or a future workshop. I know many users to buy in gog because besides being free drm have added achievements or options like cloud save. […] I for example gog game because I want my games drm free, but also because it has a good platform like gog galaxy with achievements, or cloud save.Io much offline game because I travel a lot for work and gog allows me to play without problems both offline on-line.

Rime has no achievements added on gog but it has additional achievements in Steam I bought the game in steam but if I had known that they would add the game without drm I would have bought it in gog. Yes I know, this was an error of mine but I would like to know if I can change the version of steam to gog. I think it is unfair that if I have paid for the game I now have a worse version than the gog users who have paid the same for the game I like a lot more gog because the games do not have drm. I do not understand why the game has achievements in steam but in gog the developers have not added achievements.

So, two questions:

2. Are you subscribed to promotional emails, and if yes, which ones? I'm trying to figure out if receiving the email is tied into being subscribed, as the German one I read does sound like more marketing speak, plus mentions the current weekly sale.

I just wanted to say "Thank you!" to the uncounted, active members of this community who took time out of their precious free time to enable/support a civil, fact-based discussion in this thread, no matter how unrewarding your efforts might have felt. elcook: Thanks for bearing with us for the last week, we have an important update to the GOG Profiles.

For the whole last week, we’ve been gathering feedback regarding the new feature on GOG. The news about profiles has spread across plenty of websites forums and communities, and we took our time to track all of them, and gather all of the feedback. The reception of the new feature we saw in the comments on Reddit, under different global and local media publications, as well as on social media, was really positive and this proved to us that we released a new feature that most of our users were waiting for. On the other side, some of you guys here in the forums, have felt differently about this new addition, and stated it clearly here.

At this point, we’d like to thank for all the feedback we received - the good as well as the constructive one. You bring a lot of important feedback regarding GOG, as you are very devoted to the platform, even if you're not the biggest crowd out there. And while we understand that there will be always different opinions, we definitely do not focus only on the positive mentions we come across, and always consider making changes if these changes are beneficial for the whole GOG community.

Taking it all into account, we decided to tweak a bit the Profiles settings, and add another option to the Privacy settings - from now on you can entirely turn off your profile on GOG, so no one can see any kind of information that is shown on the profile page. This will also mean, that when you turn off your profile, you won’t be visible on your friends’ friends lists, if they decide to keep their profiles visible.
The option to enable/disable your GOG Profile can be found in your account „Orders & Settings” options, under Privacy tab. Hope this will address your and others concerns regarding GOG Profiles.
So, despite the poor choice of suit-talk, thanks for giving the privacy back to those who want it!
and I hope you learned the right (pro-consumer) thing from it.

They are immune to common sense. Think that is pretty clear by now.

If only there were actual alternatives out there. Steam is obviously a no-go, as despite GOG's decline, they're still worse. Humble Bundle was great years ago, but are now essentially reduced to a subcontractor selling keys for Steam.

The good news (hah!) is that I have quite a lot of games, so if I pull out of everything, I'll keep busy anyway.

Just to point out the obvious: The reason many of us are so disappointed in GOG these days is that we used to trust these guys. They were the good guys. Years ago. We came here because they offered something others don't. Now it's just yet another online store that sells your data and treats us like shit. Fucking you in the arse and left ear simultaneously.

I honestly wonder what happened internally. They must have lost some important from-the-beginning guys for this to occur. It certainly isn't what they set out to do.

elcook: [...] we have an important update to the GOG Profiles. [...]
I have a question about this, and I do hope you will clarify, and in a timely manner too.

The update in the OP here says [emphasis added]:
[...] This also means that when you turn off your profile, you won’t be visible on your friends’ friends lists, even if they decide to keep their profiles visible.
The update in the respective OP in the German speaking forum says [emphasis added]:
[...] Dadurch wirst du auch nicht mehr auf den Freundeslisten deiner Freunde angezeigt, wenn diese ihre Freundesliste sichtbar machen.
The part I highlighted translates as [emphasis added]:
you will no longer appear on your friends' friends lists when they make their friends lists visible.
There are two friends lists related to profiles - one is the actual friends list (the separate tab), and the other is that "Friends" section of five friends on the profile page itself.

The German text reads as referring to the former list, while the English text as referring to the latter one.
Could you clarify which one a disabled profile actually affects?
Thank you for the updated privacy settings.

I rarely participated in discussions on GOG to start with. Mostly because I only engaged when there was something important to me going on (and I actually knew about it by accidentally stumbling on a forum announcement...), and my take from it was that GOG was long past too comfortable in their market presence to care about actual community feedback.

I took a break from this discussion, as well, and decided that there is no longer any point for me to hold any loyalty toward GOG. I actually paid more for some games to get them here. I pre-ordered KC:D here (and a few other titles earlier on) to show my support for GOG, despite the fact that the release was delayed around 3 weeks compared to Steam (and I've learned a long time ago my lessons about pre-orders). I kept mentioning GOG as a superior choice of digital distribution every time the occasion arose (whether online or in face-to-face discussions).

Only to be told that people using other social media than GOG's own bloody forum are more important - or, at least their opinion is. Apparently, I'm not the customer they put first anymore, despite years of steadfast support of GOG's growth.

Fine. I'll start looking more closely at other sites' offerings now. Enjoy your social media butterflies as the main support, and... heh. Good luck with that.

But that's exactly my point. They'd have fixed the current status if they were sending out that sort of email, because they see what's wrong with all this. But they don't, so instead they're sending out a "Hey there, we set up your public profile <without asking you, or you agreeing>, yeah! And I just noticed that it even uses the exact wording they used on twitter. I guess they wanted to make sure that those not frequenting twitter, still join the hype train.

I've been one of those silent watchers on this forum until now. I'm pleased that GOG finally has given a response and a fix, thanks guys!

However, I still feel that this whole thing was handled very poorly.

GOG left an awesome first impression on me. I was introduced to it by a flash freebie, then I stayed for the allure of no hassle DRM free gaming, and my first experience with customer support saw a response in just a few minutes. Consequently I've been singing GOG's praises to my friends ever since and always try to buy here first.
GOG reminded me of Reaper, (a digital audio workstation) that in their description used to say they want to treat their customers like customers and not criminals. I bought reaper well and truly before the trial period expired, and where other DAWs can take days to authenticate online, Reaper just works even when installed offline. Same no-nonsense with GOG. Heck, even though I always get classic installers I still have used Galaxy for online play.

While for the time being I'm still going to come to GOG first, after seeing what the customer service has been like to the community recently, I am going to find it harder to recommend it to my friends until I see some more positive things.
