UPDATE: We've added a new option to the Privacy settings in GOG Profiles - from now on you can turn off your profile on GOG entirely, so no one can see any kind of information that is shown on the profile page. This also means that when you turn off your profile, you won’t be visible on your friends’ friends lists, even if they decide to keep their profiles visible.
The option to enable/disable your GOG Profile can be found in your account „Privacy & Settings” options, under „Privacy” tab.

We just introduced a new feature on GOG.COM: User Profiles – a social way to share what you and your friends are up to. See what your friends on GOG are playing, achieving, and sharing across four sections – Feed, Profile, Games and Friends.

Your Feed is the centerpiece of your Profile. Here, you’ll see which games your friends have been playing, all sorts of achievements and milestones, as well as general thoughts, screenshots, and forum activity. You can dispense your approval at whim and share your own stuff as well!

Your Profile is all about you and your gaming accomplishments. It's a summary of your activity, like the time you've spent in your games , your latest achievements (and just how rare they are among other users), as well as a glimpse at what your most active friends have been up to.

If you want to know more about your Games, you need to hit the the third tab. It contains a list of all the games you own on GOG, together with stats like time spent in-game and your progress towards unlocking the achievements. Sort the list, compare stats with your friends, and get some healthy competition going.

Finally – your Friends: get a general summary of their achievements and hours played. Here you'll also see which games are the most popular among your friends right now, so you can join them in multiplayer or find something you might enjoy yourself.

Of course, your profile comes with some sweet personalization options, choose a wallpaper from your game collection and share a few words with the world.

User Profiles are available for all GOG.COM users. Your personal gameplay stats like achievements, time played and milestones depend on GOG Galaxy, but if you’re not using the optional client you can still use the feed, post in it and interact with your friends.

Launching profiles also means adding new privacy settings on our end. You'll find three new Privacy options in your account's „Privacy & settings” area. These settings allow you to set the visibility for your profile summary, your games, your friends, etc.
So what are you waiting for? There's so much room for activities!

Tauto: On and on the crying goes. Will there be no end to this senseless whining and insults to Gog?
Never. You know how it is.

Oh, and if I say your slip is showing again, will GOG delete this thread too?

lostwolfe: while we're talking about this. [this isn't related]

the notification bell being broken for a week really isn't helping matters.
On the bright side, the fact that the forum search function is horribly broken probably limits some of the damage a data collector can do on this site in the near term.

Silver linings.

Is the tin foil hat community satisfied yet?

I think I'm going to start renting out space on my profile page to advertisers.

Fine the way it was done might not have been everyones cup of tea, but im starting to get the impression people expect GOG to keep them happy (despite forumites only making a tiny fraction of the customer base..) and run through any potential changes if this drama is anything to go by....
there we go :D

Now I just sit back and wait for the checks to roll in!

Not broken. All the forum stuff is handled through profiles now, so those useful notifications that would pop up and alert you in different tabs no matter which tab you were browsing on, and would tell you which thread had responses (and how many in each thread) are gone now in favor of a nebulous purple dot by your community menu option that doesn't throw a notification to the tab title or indeed tell you anything except that there's something to check.

Way to go again GAG taking something good and turning it into something far less useful.

Hmmm, I would like to rent some space of your profile to advertise my own.
I'd give you one rare copy of "Lure of the Temptress"
Deal?

Edit: Niiiice, you already got one big player: Nuka-Cola.
The last image gave me an evil LOL harhar! Be so kind and put my advertising near err "Alass in Wondarseland". ^^
For such nonsense one can praise the internet not high enough. xD

I'm really happy about this update thank you!!! :)
Thank you! Even though I don't plan to use privacy settings myself, I feel much better knowing that the option is there. Looking forward to the 4th!

HeartsAndRainbows: You might have the option to not care, but I don't. :/
Of course. I was only replying to your list of responses by adding another, which I feel is the most common (right or wrong).
I'm curious if the gog will learn from it. To make all new features optionally. Though if remember situation about auto-install of Galaxy client I'm doubt about it.

elcook: Thanks for bearing with us for the last week, we have an important update to the GOG Profiles...

...Taking it all into account, we decided to tweak a bit the Profiles settings, and add another option to the Privacy settings - from now on you can entirely turn off your profile on GOG, so no one can see any kind of information that is shown on the profile page....
First of all thank you for this!

Secondly, why did you not used what was already available? I do not understand why tags cannot be visible and only data gathered from galaxy are presented. If somebody do not use Galaxy at all, than there are only games with play time zero... Whereas if tags could be visible, that we could se games tagged like "Finished", "Next to play", "Buggy", "Too hard", etc.

Just question why is there some relation between my enabled/disabled profile and others? Frankly I do not understand it.

Wait what are people complaining about? I don't feel like going through hundreds of pages. I thought this was a cool update.

lostwolfe: moreover, i am - and this is somewhat ironic, i feel - helping to protect YOU from YOURSELF - because later on, when the privacy stuff bites you in the butt [and it will, cf: cambridge analytica] i won't say "i told you so," because i'm not that sort of person. i'll just be in my corner, lamenting that there were a lot of safeguards we COULD have put into place, but we didn't bother, because gog was so convenient! and it made so much sense to shop there! .
+1 and thank you for putting that so well.

When they grow up, maybe they will understand.

jorlin: Well, Bravo!

ZenWan's response reflects my opinion on your behaviour quite nicely, though I feel sorry for so many lawyers fighting for justice and indeed for people's right to privacy! to be equated to your (Bwuaâaaaark) "marketing" BS.
.
+1

And you're right about the lawyers, there are some brave and good ones. It is an insult to them to mention them in the same post as that drivel from elcook
