UPDATE: We've added a new option to the Privacy settings in GOG Profiles - from now on you can turn off your profile on GOG entirely, so no one can see any kind of information that is shown on the profile page. This also means that when you turn off your profile, you won’t be visible on your friends’ friends lists, even if they decide to keep their profiles visible.
The option to enable/disable your GOG Profile can be found in your account „Privacy & Settings” options, under „Privacy” tab.

We just introduced a new feature on GOG.COM: User Profiles – a social way to share what you and your friends are up to. See what your friends on GOG are playing, achieving, and sharing across four sections – Feed, Profile, Games and Friends.

Your Feed is the centerpiece of your Profile. Here, you’ll see which games your friends have been playing, all sorts of achievements and milestones, as well as general thoughts, screenshots, and forum activity. You can dispense your approval at whim and share your own stuff as well!

Your Profile is all about you and your gaming accomplishments. It's a summary of your activity, like the time you've spent in your games , your latest achievements (and just how rare they are among other users), as well as a glimpse at what your most active friends have been up to.

If you want to know more about your Games, you need to hit the the third tab. It contains a list of all the games you own on GOG, together with stats like time spent in-game and your progress towards unlocking the achievements. Sort the list, compare stats with your friends, and get some healthy competition going.

Finally – your Friends: get a general summary of their achievements and hours played. Here you'll also see which games are the most popular among your friends right now, so you can join them in multiplayer or find something you might enjoy yourself.

Of course, your profile comes with some sweet personalization options, choose a wallpaper from your game collection and share a few words with the world.

User Profiles are available for all GOG.COM users. Your personal gameplay stats like achievements, time played and milestones depend on GOG Galaxy, but if you’re not using the optional client you can still use the feed, post in it and interact with your friends.

Launching profiles also means adding new privacy settings on our end. You'll find three new Privacy options in your account's „Privacy & settings” area. These settings allow you to set the visibility for your profile summary, your games, your friends, etc.
So what are you waiting for? There's so much room for activities!

boztix: Again the same? Again being disrespectful with the one who does not think like you or does not write what you want to read? Leave us all in peace of your once, your bad reputation in the forums is not coincidence
Okay, I could have called this out yesterday, but I thought they would have given up by now: The way MariusHispano and boztix interact with the posts in this thread, the fact that they seem to have similar struggles with the English language, their odd "My other account is made out of pure gold but I'm not posting with it" statements and their shared inability (faked or real) to understand what has been told to them for about 5 times each suggest to me that these are both smurf accounts of the same person. And that person lacks in positive character traits.
---------------------------- I sent this email:

I do not want a profile. I would like to delete it, which is a common ability on sites that have profiles. How do I delete it? Can I still buy games if I don't have a profile or do I have to delete my whole account in order to not have a profile, and if so, how do I delete my whole account? If I delete my account, how do I get access to the games I've bought to download them in the future, which I thought I bought "forever" that had no stipulation when I bought "as long as you maintain a GOG profile."

--------------------------- I got this reseponse:

Genoan (GOG.com)

Apr 26, 11:42 CEST
Hello

It is currently not possible to delete a profile. If you delete your account you will not be able to access your purchases.

Before I can delete your account, please send me the following, in order to verify that you are the account's owner: for card payments - the last 4 digits of a credit card that you used on GOG.com, for PayPal - a PayPal Transaction ID of one of your GOG.com purchases, for SOFORT or Giropay - your IBAN, for QIWI - your phone number, if you made no purchases, send us a key which you redeemed on our service.
Afterwards, your account will be locked for 30 days, following which it will be permanently deleted. Please keep in mind that account deletion is irreversible, we don't store your full credit card information, and there are no costs involved in maintaining your account.

Regards
Genoan

------------------------ such incompetence

this "genoan" can't even answer a simple fucking question: "you can't delete your profile without deleting your account, and you can't delete your account, we have to do it for you and these are the steps that need to be taken..."

----------------- I responded:

with some other stuff "you say 'it is not currently possible' does that mean there are plans to make it possible? what is the eta on that?"

no response since

Pointless addition. Profiles are like Myspace. And is Myspace still a thing?

ZenWan: :-)

New reply from Gog Support. I had previously received the 'our lips are sealed' response, and then an automated msg asking if they could close my ticket, if the issue was solved.

I replied that it was not solved until they responded properly re the invasion of my privacy and fixed the profile issue, and this is what I got:

[i]Hello

I'm not sure what kind of invading privacy are you referring to as we don't do it at all. And to hide info about your profile can be done through your account settings-privacy:
https://www.gog.com/account/settings/privacy

Editing to try to get that message into italics, which wasn't working before.

Question for 'ZenWan': Was this the actual reply from GOG or did you translate it to English?

(If it is from a non-English support staff member then it is quite possibly out of sync with the rest of GOG.)

This was the actual reply, in English.

I removed the name of the support person, in order to preserve his privacy.

Oh, the irony of that...

Thank you for your help. As you can tell, I don't post much in the forums - any more.

Breja: At this point it's really as if they are trying to be insulting.

It really is quite astounding to see a company display quite such a level of arrogance and/or incompetence. I don't think they can sink any lower in my eyes, though I'm sure this assumption will be challenged in the days to come.
I actually had a taste of this arrogance a long time ago (like, Witcher 2 release date ago), and stopped buying from them at that time. Just came back after winning a GOG game in a giveaway but I'll be off again... Sad to see they're getting worse and worse... They actually make Steam look like the good guys privacy-wise, an impressive achievement for a company that first gained traction about being all about DRM-free aka (supposedly) ethical.

(also @joppo thanks for the link)

Gersen: Knowing how support usually works, and before going into crazy conspiracies theories (it's probably too late already :) ); I suspect that the support guy/gall most probably don't browse the forum at all and has probably not a single clue what you call an "invasion of privacy" and no idea that it amount two the three counters than remain visible. The only thing he/she probably knows is that new profile were introduced recently and that they can be disabled in the privacy option; hence the answer.
I would agree with you on this.
The message was written by a different support person from the one who first wrote to me with the 'lips are sealed' mantra.
I got the impression that the writer had jumped in without being up to speed on what was going on (it's Sunday, after all) and sincerely believed what he wrote to me He was perhaps somewhat worried or stunned when in response I pointed out, giving examples, how wrong he was.

I have had nothing but silence since my reply, which makes me think that the support person who had written to me trudged back to HQ for further instructions, and was told 'keep your lips sealed.'

All conjecture, of course. But I was careful not to name him, I respect his privacy. ;-)

No no and no. He and I wrote in the same forum. Forum where you were invited to write freely and where there are many users who do not want to write here because of certain users.

It is something that had already been said before, you just have to read.

Also, although most of the users have been happy to add profiles, achievements, cloud save ... the list of wishes to vote in favor of greater privacy was also published. Unfortunately the request was not very well received.

I do not have any problems with you and I invite you to write in this forum mentioned several times here, it will be a pleasure to read you.

Anyway, there are users with two and three accounts that are used to attack other users and even in other forums have asked to create several accounts to vote in favor of privacy.

In my opinion, that only hurts the petition.

It's interesting, isn't it, that MariusHispano's nick identifies him as Hispanic, like our friend boztix who posts in a Spanish-speaking forum.

Just saying...

in reply to : " .. They actually make Steam look like the good guys privacy-wise, an impressive achievement for a company that first gained traction about being all about DRM-free aka (supposedly) ethical.
"

It is weird and funny at the same time that 'evil' Steam has ways to hide your location (country) and other parts seperately , even GamersGate had a way to hide your shelves and number of games for a long time (when i first joined they had it already)

Which makes me wonder :

this GOG profile thing is weird ... starts to look like a B-movie script... where some 'badguys' somehow took over the GOG as we know it and replace them with 'evil twins: something like the classic Bodysnatchers movie ....
this would explain the 180 degree turn of GOG as we know it... invaders snatched our GoG buddies and took over... soon they will take over the gaming world ....

OR ........ a modern approach ... evil script-kiddies had an assignment to prove them they could 'graduate' and become members of the elite ...... their assignment was to take over a digital gaming site ....

Steam was out of the picture cause they were takenover decades ago .... same for GamersGate and others so the last men standing (note the plural 'men' because GOG is more then 1 person so it becomes men)
Those scripties seem to have breached the last line of defense.... took over support which would explain the weird replies given lately by support .... enemy forces have taken over GOG as we know it ...

what can we do ? .... too many questions ....

Maybe I'm out of the loop, but why are you singling out these 2 on their cultural/racial backgrounds? Wondering the significance of it. Also 'Hispanic' is pretty telling that you are probably some white boy.

Well... There's always FireFlower Games. Not a big catalog, but at least it is DRM free and private.

As a further hint that they could be (or could have been) the same person.
