UPDATE: We've added a new option to the Privacy settings in GOG Profiles - from now on you can turn off your profile on GOG entirely, so no one can see any kind of information that is shown on the profile page. This also means that when you turn off your profile, you won’t be visible on your friends’ friends lists, even if they decide to keep their profiles visible.
The option to enable/disable your GOG Profile can be found in your account „Privacy & Settings” options, under „Privacy” tab.

We just introduced a new feature on GOG.COM: User Profiles – a social way to share what you and your friends are up to. See what your friends on GOG are playing, achieving, and sharing across four sections – Feed, Profile, Games and Friends.

Your Feed is the centerpiece of your Profile. Here, you’ll see which games your friends have been playing, all sorts of achievements and milestones, as well as general thoughts, screenshots, and forum activity. You can dispense your approval at whim and share your own stuff as well!

Your Profile is all about you and your gaming accomplishments. It's a summary of your activity, like the time you've spent in your games , your latest achievements (and just how rare they are among other users), as well as a glimpse at what your most active friends have been up to.

If you want to know more about your Games, you need to hit the the third tab. It contains a list of all the games you own on GOG, together with stats like time spent in-game and your progress towards unlocking the achievements. Sort the list, compare stats with your friends, and get some healthy competition going.

Finally – your Friends: get a general summary of their achievements and hours played. Here you'll also see which games are the most popular among your friends right now, so you can join them in multiplayer or find something you might enjoy yourself.

Of course, your profile comes with some sweet personalization options, choose a wallpaper from your game collection and share a few words with the world.

User Profiles are available for all GOG.COM users. Your personal gameplay stats like achievements, time played and milestones depend on GOG Galaxy, but if you’re not using the optional client you can still use the feed, post in it and interact with your friends.

Launching profiles also means adding new privacy settings on our end. You'll find three new Privacy options in your account's „Privacy & settings” area. These settings allow you to set the visibility for your profile summary, your games, your friends, etc.
So what are you waiting for? There's so much room for activities!

toxicTom: Are you trolling or just mentally challenged?

I'm trying hard but you repeating the same bullshit over and over... makes it a challenge to stay "respectful".
Again the same? Again being disrespectful with the one who does not think like you or does not write what you want to read? Leave us all in peace of your once, your bad reputation in the forums is not coincidence
avatar
joppo: Yeah, it seems that the rest just up and left. Actually there were plenty of cases in this very thread that said they wouldn't buy on GOG anymore, they just didn't ask to be added to RainbowDragon's list.

frenchdoe: Hi,
Sorry if that's a silly question, but where can this list be found?
Hi.
That's no silly question. This thread has become huge and it's obvious that very few people who come later will read the whole thing. In fact that's another reason which I'm sure the list is still on the short side.

This list has been posted a few times as people joined but the most recent post is https://www.gog.com/forum/general/introducing_gog_profiles_a393f/post1483

Edit: typos removed

When a person blabs the exact same cyclical argument over and over without addressing the actual points given to them, sometimes they need to be told they're thick. When people run out of arguments and actual points, they revert to two common options: repeat what they've already said ad nauseum, or insulting others. Here's you're seeing both choices in action.

So, an entire week has passed and GOG hasn't done anything.

- they didn't change the unethical (and probably unlawful) way their profiles work - sharing data against the explicit wish of the user
- they didn't fix their screwed up default setting
- they didn't even start to communicate about the matter

That's a new low, even for GOG, to muzzle their employees for an entire week. What are they hoping to achieve? Are they hoping that the customers who actually care about privacy are going to leave, so that afterwards they can do what they want without anyone complaining?

I kind of get the impression that this is supposed to be some kind of spring cleaning. Get rid of the old customers and just keep the new ones who don't remember and don't care about GOGs old promises.

Gog's Dossier,I think Meuller should investigate.

xyem: I have my chat set to public because people need to contact me to redeem prizes in my giveaways. Your simple solution would break this.
avatar
joppo: Speaking of which, I hereby wanna make clear that you don't need to spend your money on the giveaway prize (1st week) that you kindly offered me. Select someone else from the initial pool or just don't, that's your call. I just don't want to support a consumer-unfriendly business with my money or, in this case, yours.
It's your prize, you get to choose what you do with it.

If you want to just hold it and never use it, that's completely fine with me.

Its amazing there is no response they probably thought the users would welcome this shameless worse than steam rip off features and thank them for it hahah.

Honestly did they hire ex ea employees to run gog , this reminds of the time blizzard introduced real id and got screwed it for it properly.

Linking to individual posts doesnt work properly anymore - at least not for me. You may have to "search" manually based on the post number #1483. It (the post number) can be seen in the title of a post by/after mousing over the post.

Edit: This post now has #1576.

I do like the fact that GOG is offering more options for the customers.
I do not like the fact that these options are not polished enough and can not be customized on every needed level.

I do understand that GOG was trying to be nice and used pre-announcement for these changes.
I do not understand why GOG did not consider our propositions and remained silent.

I do know that currently in Poland is a week long "free weekend" so probably we won't get answers during the next week.
I do not know why GOG did not answer these questions before this time as they are really important for every customer.

Vainamoinen: Calm down. I just happen to think there will be better results with a more informed user base, no wild goose chases like the legal angle, and with hands less dirty.
Consider how heavily some video game companies have been slammed on a legal angle just recently;
In Australia, Valve has to pay AU$3million after being found guilty of misleading and deceptive conduct with Steam. The Norwegian Consumer Council is investigating the Nintendo eShop, the PS Store, Origin and Steam for breaching EU consumer law*. In the Netherlands, several games -including Overwatch- were classed as "gambling", and given a grace period to change their revenue model or their companies will face penalties from paying 800,000 Euros to ten years in prison. edit: The Netherlands arrived a similar conclusion when it looked into ten games, and found four of them contravened its Betting and Gaming act. Additionally, with the GDPR approaching, some games and services either shut down completely or block the EU as a region (Super Monday Night Combat, Ragnarok Online, Tunngle are the ones I read about).

My point is: Gamers have taken a lot of stuff lying down without even realizing that some of how they had been treated was, sometimes blatantly, against the law. I think it is important to understand that a lot of the negative trends in gaming had time to grow and foster because too few people stood up to them. Standing up doesn't necessarily mean outright suing any company either: Something being illegal, and something being actionable or even punished by a court of law are very different things.

But we don't have to always just appeal to a company's goodwill and plead for niceness.

*Correction: They investigated a few more digital distribution platforms. The platforms mentioned are the ones they found guilty.

That actually made me smile, thanks.
Tom has a bad reputation? :P

Don't get me wrong, I'm not calling him Mother Theresa, but I don't recall anyone freaking out about him being here, or even starting entire threads to bitch about him, like they have for yours truly. :P

:-)

New reply from Gog Support. I had previously received the 'our lips are sealed' response, and then an automated msg asking if they could close my ticket, if the issue was solved.

I replied that it was not solved until they responded properly re the invasion of my privacy and fixed the profile issue, and this is what I got:

[i]Hello

I'm not sure what kind of invading privacy are you referring to as we don't do it at all. And to hide info about your profile can be done through your account settings-privacy:
https://www.gog.com/account/settings/privacy

Best Regards

Editing to try to get that message into italics, which wasn't working before.

Well, it turns out that this GOG idiocy is saving me money already. This weekend alone there were half a dozen games that I would have bought if I still trusted them. Every cloud has a silver lining.
