UPDATE: We've added a new option to the Privacy settings in GOG Profiles - from now on you can turn off your profile on GOG entirely, so no one can see any kind of information that is shown on the profile page. This also means that when you turn off your profile, you won’t be visible on your friends’ friends lists, even if they decide to keep their profiles visible.
The option to enable/disable your GOG Profile can be found in your account „Privacy & Settings” options, under „Privacy” tab.

We just introduced a new feature on GOG.COM: User Profiles – a social way to share what you and your friends are up to. See what your friends on GOG are playing, achieving, and sharing across four sections – Feed, Profile, Games and Friends.

Your Feed is the centerpiece of your Profile. Here, you’ll see which games your friends have been playing, all sorts of achievements and milestones, as well as general thoughts, screenshots, and forum activity. You can dispense your approval at whim and share your own stuff as well!

Your Profile is all about you and your gaming accomplishments. It's a summary of your activity, like the time you've spent in your games , your latest achievements (and just how rare they are among other users), as well as a glimpse at what your most active friends have been up to.

If you want to know more about your Games, you need to hit the the third tab. It contains a list of all the games you own on GOG, together with stats like time spent in-game and your progress towards unlocking the achievements. Sort the list, compare stats with your friends, and get some healthy competition going.

Finally – your Friends: get a general summary of their achievements and hours played. Here you'll also see which games are the most popular among your friends right now, so you can join them in multiplayer or find something you might enjoy yourself.

Of course, your profile comes with some sweet personalization options, choose a wallpaper from your game collection and share a few words with the world.

User Profiles are available for all GOG.COM users. Your personal gameplay stats like achievements, time played and milestones depend on GOG Galaxy, but if you’re not using the optional client you can still use the feed, post in it and interact with your friends.

Launching profiles also means adding new privacy settings on our end. You'll find three new Privacy options in your account's „Privacy & settings” area. These settings allow you to set the visibility for your profile summary, your games, your friends, etc.
So what are you waiting for? There's so much room for activities!

Did you actually made a new account just to say this? Why not use the old one?

people retreating?

Somebody should summarize this and post it to r/games. I'm surprised the hubbub hasn't made it into gaming news yet; I guess it's pretty damn minor compared to other gaming news.

Actually it did make it to a few websites.

https://www.oneangrygamer.net/2018/04/gog-com-introduces-user-profiles-spawns-major-privacy-issues/57130/

https://www.cnet.com/news/gog-debuts-profiles-feature-users-flip-out/

https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2018/04/23/gog-adds-user-profiles/

I don't know if there were any more later on. Unfortunately situation remaining unchanged is not newsworthy, so the longer it goes on the less attention it will get. Which, come to think of it, might be exactly why GOG decided that dead silence is the best way to handle it.

I think you got your links mixed up, here's the relevant one.

Now, technically they didn't get it wrong. If one chooses "only me", their gaming details are out of view. It's the summary type of data that's still out there. Either the author is unaware of this, or they share GOG's view.
Real time and attention has been put into the profile wallpapers, I've only found a few that are so-so. Great job!

I agree with you, privacy should improve and I hope that gog corrects it.

But I also agree with the users that when they have requested achievements in their games, profiles, cloud save and other options have had to support all kinds of comments by a small group of users without gog.com taking action.

Many of these users have stopped participating in this forum because of that small group of users who did not respect anyone.

I am glad that gog has listened to the community and added achievements or profiles but I hope that gog will listen to two things:

-To improve privacy in gog

-To sanction users who are opening a thousand post on the same subject when some of those users humiliated some users for talking about the same topic in two post

I have also invited some media to go through forums where we talk about these users and can observe what many have had to suffer in this forum.

This topic now has more posts than Getting back to our roots.

MariusHispano: ...snip... in this forum and in other forums (I think we all know these foreros).
Erm. I'm only an occasional visitor to this forum, so now I'm curious.
Are there other GOG-centric forums/discussion groups elsewhere?
I know of the one on Reddit, but that's pretty low-volume.

Lukaszmik: [...] So, the fact that this is forced on everybody does make me suspect of intentional data-mining direction.
You might not know this about me, but I occasionally see or hear visions of the future. ;)

GOG's next sugarcoated statement will be: "The builders of our company are fully engaged in reconstructing our website, and its labor force is deployed for that. Nobody has the intention to erect a store that sells your data to our trusted partners."
(Or something along those lines... I'm sure I will be pretty close.)

Sad thing is: This one was probably a vision from the past.

You gotta love the 'Sign in via Steam to comment' requirement!

Hey now, I have to assume you are talking about /r/GOG and I should take offense to that being a mod there. Just so you know in the month of March alone we had 46,420 pageviews and 12,642 unique views and getting ready to pass 10,000 subscribers. We may be low volume compared to the rest of Reddit but we are by no means low volume. :P

priestlyjudas: Eh, I feel like the community aspect is one where Steam is way ahead, no surprise considering it's a much older aspect. It's also my main motivation for mostly buying on Steam - talking to people about games, while gaming feels much better than just gaming.
While what you are looking for is talking to people about games, the reason Steam has more of that is sheer numbers:
"By early 2018, [Steam] had over 150 million registered accounts with a peak of 18.5 million concurrent users online."

Someone stated a few pages back that GOG had like 500,000 users. I'm not a lawy... er mathematician... but according to those numbers I would say that Steam should have about 300 times the amount of gaming discussions that GOG has.
