UPDATE: We've added a new option to the Privacy settings in GOG Profiles - from now on you can turn off your profile on GOG entirely, so no one can see any kind of information that is shown on the profile page. This also means that when you turn off your profile, you won’t be visible on your friends’ friends lists, even if they decide to keep their profiles visible.
The option to enable/disable your GOG Profile can be found in your account „Privacy & Settings” options, under „Privacy” tab.

We just introduced a new feature on GOG.COM: User Profiles – a social way to share what you and your friends are up to. See what your friends on GOG are playing, achieving, and sharing across four sections – Feed, Profile, Games and Friends.

Your Feed is the centerpiece of your Profile. Here, you’ll see which games your friends have been playing, all sorts of achievements and milestones, as well as general thoughts, screenshots, and forum activity. You can dispense your approval at whim and share your own stuff as well!

Your Profile is all about you and your gaming accomplishments. It's a summary of your activity, like the time you've spent in your games , your latest achievements (and just how rare they are among other users), as well as a glimpse at what your most active friends have been up to.

If you want to know more about your Games, you need to hit the the third tab. It contains a list of all the games you own on GOG, together with stats like time spent in-game and your progress towards unlocking the achievements. Sort the list, compare stats with your friends, and get some healthy competition going.

Finally – your Friends: get a general summary of their achievements and hours played. Here you'll also see which games are the most popular among your friends right now, so you can join them in multiplayer or find something you might enjoy yourself.

Of course, your profile comes with some sweet personalization options, choose a wallpaper from your game collection and share a few words with the world.

User Profiles are available for all GOG.COM users. Your personal gameplay stats like achievements, time played and milestones depend on GOG Galaxy, but if you’re not using the optional client you can still use the feed, post in it and interact with your friends.

Launching profiles also means adding new privacy settings on our end. You'll find three new Privacy options in your account's „Privacy & settings” area. These settings allow you to set the visibility for your profile summary, your games, your friends, etc.
So what are you waiting for? There's so much room for activities!

rjbuffchix: Mark my words, these profiles are a step towards forced Galaxy for everyone. "Everyone HAS to have Galaxy so that GOG/publishers get data on playtime; otherwise, X publisher won't want to come here". And since GOG does not consider Galaxy DRM, they can still advertise as DRM-free. It's alarming. Right now, for non-Galaxy users, the profile will say "0 hours played". Imo there is no way that they want that to stand for very long.
I think gog's actions during the past couple of years have shown very clearly where they're headed. No, I don't think they will make Galaxy mandatory and they promised - as if that counts for anything anymore - that DRM-free installers are here to stay. So they'll just choose a more underhanded way to go about things: Instead of forcing Galaxy on everyone, they'll continue to find ways to make the website suck. The game+Galaxy installers were a huge step in that direction. Embedding facebook shit on the website was another.

The problem is, these changes also make Galaxy suck, since it's essentially a bundled version of the site. Nothing gained.

Not necessarily.
Having your username link to your profile instead of your library would seem to me to incentivize use of Galaxy over pure website use, for example. As far as I remember you have easy access to the library in Galaxy regardless, right? Meanwhile access on the website has just been made more cumbersome (albeit just slightly) and your habitual clicks on your username meanwhile present you at the very least with the mandatory three, two of which are entirely Galaxy-dependant, thus incentivizing use of the client.

No, to the majority of gog galaxy users we love it, it seems great that there are achievements, profiles, cloud save or friends list. The problem is that there is a minority of users who do not want those options and despite being able to do without them playing without gog galaxy prefer that others can not choose to have these options.

Because of those users, this forum is reduced to a few hundred users instead of the thousands that every day use gog galaxy and who speak in other forums dedicated to gog.

Mr. Boztix is the majority, we're the minority.

Is that clear? It better be clear.

Hmm...

And where might those busy forums frequented by happy Gog Galaxy users be?

[in fact, i was going to come here and screenshot it, in case no one else had gotten it.]

ok, gog. if the non-response is how you want to play it, that's fine.

i am not putting money into your site until you respect my privacy. easy.

So the request for more privacy options is ignored. Not surprised at all.

Thank you all for keeping up the pressure here
https://www.gog.com/wishlist/site/disable_view_profile_function_for_customers_who_care_for_their_privacy
and in the forums!

As requested, and thank your for your posts, a mini update to the "list"... I had more or less had given up on that, but it cannot hurt to continue, every tiny bit if pressure is now needed...

Disclaimer ("copyright" SpiderFighter :-)): this is NOT a recruiting list, just a (most probably very incomplete) list of angry users who will not buy here anmyore until gog get's their act together and stops publishing data without their customer's consent!

*** Number of users who will not buy from gog.com anymore until gog.com respects our privacy ***
#1 Breja
#2 PrivateProfile
#3 SpiderFighter
#4 jorlin
#5 monsieurcaillou
#6 RainbowDragon
#7 NovumZ
#8 ZenWan
#9 Dalthnock
#10 Lifthrasil

And - again - a word to all those who defend the new public profiles: please read carefully, nobody wants to take them away from you, what we want is an OPTION to keep our data private. We request from gog what should not even have to be requested, that WE the customers and owners of our data can decide what is published about us (or not). In an ideal world gog would not have made (another) stupid decision and just published everything without asking us, but carefully prepared account settings which allow us to select to show off as much as we are comfortable with or to keep completely under the radar and let private data be just that - private!

So until gog comes to their senses.... goodbye :-)

You forgot the sarcasm tags. Some people might think you actually mean that.
