I have absolutely no issue with unbundling games, as I like seeing all the titles on my shelf sorted. I have one issue. GOG's sorting system is very flawed. It sorts by Title or by Purchase Date, or manually. What I would love is sorting via game series internal continuity, so that, for example, Baldur's Gate is always before Baldur's Gate 2... IT's a nitpick, for sure, but it seems like a simple thing to implement into a sorting algorithm.

moonshineshadow: At this point I really wish a blue would show up and at least tell us if they ever continue with the unbundling or if it will just stay as it is. (My expectations got really low...)
Thanks for the great summary of the let-down here ;-)
It could be that the unbundling so far has screwed up something with Galaxy, and they're busy trying to fix that.

That could be true. There is so much effort put into it and it seems to get priority over other stuff.

I have a creeping suspicion that Galaxy is at the root of a number of issues here. And furthermore that those issues aren't getting attention because once Galaxy comes out GOG will expect users to rely on it for everything. I know they've claimed otherwise, but their recent pattern indicates that once they set a course they go all-in on it.

EDIT: typo

Now now, they've repeatedly said that Galaxy has nth to do with anything, that it was a happy coincidence that any and all changes fit right in with it. They've also reassured us that our experience won't change or be affected by it. I can't see what makes you suspect otherwise.
This thread reminds me of the, to me, awkward 'We need your help: Join us for the GOG Galaxy Multiplayer Stress Test' thread, which despite having a decent community response had *no* communication whatsoever, people weren't even clear it started yet because there was no one there saying anything, nor did they have any clue when they stopped testing. Not a single staff post since they asked people to help, no summary, no test results, no thank you for participating. Baffling.

It's the first time I really felt that something like that would normally have never occurred on GOG.

As for Galaxy, I think most of us here realize Galaxy is going to be the center piece for GOG after it's released. They're not designing a full on client for a sideshow.

You're right. I see no reason why they shouldn't maintain two completely distinct asset repositories of large size, each with their own access mechanisms and maintenance requirements. That just makes good business sense.

Exactly why I never believed any of their reassurances.

mrkgnao: Today is Tuesday, April 7, 2015.

The full unbundling has begun 22 days ago and has apparently not ended yet, leaving the library in a half-broken state (no update notifications, no links to game pages/forums for unbundled games, broken game links, even more product_bonuses, etc.).

A blue has not posted in this thread in the last 20 days (post #631, i.e. 749 posts ago).
Maybe in your daily recap you should provide a link to your own post in which you list all the problems reported in this thread.
That post is a bible.

Just a few comments:
1. Alone in the Dark 1-3 - non unbundled
2. Catacombs Pack - not unbundled
3. Dangerous Dave Pack - not unbundled
4. Duke Nukem (Nukum) and Duke Nukem 2 - have the same cover arts
5. Incoming and Incoming Forces - have the same cover arts
6. King's Quest 1-6 - non unbundled
7. Leisure Suit Larry: In The Land Of The Lounge Lizards and Leisure Suit Larry 6: Shape Up Or Slip Out unbundled into original and VGA games | Quest for Glory contains VGA remake in one piece - you should apply one or another approach
8. Megarace and Megarace 2 - have the same cover arts
9. Daryl F. Gates' Police Quest: SWAT and Police Quest: SWAT 2 - have the same cover arts
10. Quest for Glory 1-5 - have the same cover arts
11. Redneck Rampage Collection - non unbundled
12. Star Wars: TIE Fighter original and collector's edition (CD) - have the same cover arts (there are minor differences)
13. Star Wars: X-Wing original and collector's edition (CD) - have the same cover arts (there are minor differences)

Your example is actually one of the easiest to fix. They don't even need to modify the BG and BG2 sorting keys because they already have the series name as a prefix on the title.

Any good "natural sort" (A.K.A. human sort) implementation will sort "Thing" before "Thing 2".

(For example, the natsort module for Python, available as python-naturalsort on Debian-based Linux, does that.)

You might have to keep this up till Armageddon... there is no indication that the staff has ever bothered to check back on anything ever posted in here.

On the other hand, about every other post in the Galaxy thread is of the men in blue. Ah well, life goes on :(
