More scary bugs to squash.


Hollow Knight, the charmingly morbid metroidvania of "buggy" underground ventures, just received a hefty free update. Incidentally, the game is now 34% off for the duration of our Halloween Sale.

During your travels, keep an eye out for the Nightmare Lanterns - light them up and you will summon the Grimm Troupe for a spooky major quest that entails scary boss fights, four new charms, and haunting new music. But Halloween is more than just delicious scares, it's also about making friends! Can you persuade members of the Troupe to change their evil ways and join you? That would be quite the treat.

Note: The update is currently deployed only on Windows - Mac and Linux will follow soon.

But is there any indication that a 50% discount is possible anytime in the future?... ever?

As it stands, the current 34% discount, bringing the price to around $10, seems to be the minimum for which the developer is willing to sale their game.

I think I'll be buying Hollow Knight now, because I missed out on the last Shovel Knight sale, before the considerable price increase.

I'm also thinking that Darkest Dungeon will never be discounted more than the current 60%, also bringing the price to around $10. The problem with Darkest Dungeon is that the expansion/DLC is only 20%, and from the reviews it's mandatory to balance the game. Decisions... decisions...

Quite a few people confusing Hollow Knight and Shovel Knight in this thread lol. :P

That said, i'm very close to being convinced to grab Hollow Knight now instead of waiting.

Exceptional game. Its low price, despite being relatively new, is deceptive as it can justifiably call itself one of the best metroidvanias ever made.
Even a lot of the positive reviews are already dated now that the current update fixed a lot of the backtracking issues that people had with it and there's even another free update still in the works.

I have the game and you guys are missing out with this one! Grab it now as it's an incredible title alone, but even more so due to free content! Seriously indies are really spoiling us right now...

Truly, Hollow Knight is the gift that keeps on giving
Even in a year as standout as this one, Hollow Knight manages to stand toe-to-toe with the best of 'em
Here's hoping it scoops-up some GOTY awards.

Final free DLC. We've still got Hornet to go, which is sort of a separate game from what we've heard instead of adding more content to the main game.

Yup, everything points to that being after this update. What wasn't certain for a while was if this last expansion would be the Hornet campaign or more content, but Hornet will definitely be paid for DLC or a stand alone-game now.
