Yeah, thanks for this thread.

I'm checking "This is my favourite topic" to find it easily in the future. But, hey, GOG, think a while how it looks. Users bookmarking topics describing hacks to get rid of bugs existing in this forum for years... So lame.

mrkgnao: Works for me (until, of course, a new notification arrives).

my name is sadde catte: I'm still getting ghost notifications for topics I've already read, including one that tells me I have four unread replies in a mafia thread. Every new actual reply I get in there increases the number, but viewing them doesn't reduce the number.
Viewing them indeed does not reduce the number; that's the bug. But doesn't the console trick in the OP clear them all for you? It does for me.

No, when they come back later they all come back. The solution in this thread was originally intended for clearing replies that couldn't be viewed because the thread/post had been deleted. This is something else.
Had it today for no reason, got sent a message at some point, clicked on Clear All, and that fixed it.

Does that do it for anyone else?

For a little while, but for me it comes back later.
I have the same problem for some time. Clearing notifications helps only temporarily. Once I get back to the forums in a few minutes, the dot shows once again even if I don't have any answers to my posts.

Indeed. Someone pointed in this thread that it comes back in due time, when you should have a new notification due to a reply. Only that it stays after you read the message, instead of disappearing.

Then again, clicking on clear all solves that. Remember that if it comes back, you might have a new reply to check.

Yes, that does prompt it to come back but the problem isn't the new reply. It's the fact that a new reply brings all the old ones back with it. I can click clear all again and again but that only kicks the can down the road...
Thank you for the solution. It worked, at least for now.

Yes! But what about the good side of it? It brings back the DM notifications and it makes possible to click on Clear All again! :-)

Sure, with a growing list each time it comes back. I'm not looking forward to having a list too long to fit on the screen telling my I have over a hundred replies across a dozen mafia threads. :P

I think GOG have partially fixed the bug now though, because at least the purple dot on the community link is disappearing when I clear all. A week ago clearing all the notifications achieved even less.

EDIT: It came back by itself.

Do not be alarmed but, considering the ever growing number of reports, it might be safe to officially declare an outbreak of Varicella in GOG (GOGricella?). Apply the known remedies and, most importantly, do not scratch..

Don't!
Interesting. Varicella returned, but this time without older DM notifications. Which means that the fast fix of "Clear all" is not available.

This might be both somewhat helpful as to the accumulation of notifications, as well as an additional curse since the "Clear all" fix is no longer granted.
so i wasn't the only one going crazy trying to find out which thread i hadn't responded to, without much success.
Bump, for easy reference.

Sigh gog, weak form...
