ZFR: Let me address the most importnant things first.

avatar
Microfish_1: I know that in one of my first games ZFR came out on D3 and said "the leaves are turning color." or some such. I immediately jumped on this as being an irrelevant "post for the sake of posting" and 3-4 people piled on me.

It turned out that ZFR had investigated someone overnight and had written a message to his fellow scum (ie "if the first word is X, it means ABC is DEF, but if the first word is Y, it means GHI is JKL")
avatar
ZFR:
avatar
Vitek: Yuck.
avatar
ZFR: Yuck indeed, because it's so not true.

Here is the post I made
https://www.gog.com/forum/general/forum_ma..._the_rescue/post278

It was just me poking fun at blotunga for making obvious statements. I wasn't signaling to anybody. This was D1 so I had nothing to signal and we had live Day chat so I could just talk there.

As somewhat of an expert in steganography, I'd like to think that had we needed to communicate, I'd have easily come up with a much better method. Even without encryption. Like using the nth letter of the mth word (which in fact many people do, and if I recall wed did for fun too).

avatar
Microfish_1: (is rational number the right term? I forget my math. at any rate, it isn't a whole number.)
avatar
ZFR: No. 9/4 is rational. You meant whole number (integer).
That whole thing I thought was a signal? I must have mis-recalled. :O
(Also Steganography looks fascinating; I had my first introduction to in in 2018 during a steamgifts puzzle event where url-codes for giveaways were hidden, sometimes in plain sight.) I did not purposely misspeak there.... hmmm. :O

Also, yes, thank you for the answer to my math question!

Would you be up for a game of The Court of the Sultan or SH when we run those again? [..]
it was fun playing with you.
Thank you :)
What are Court of the Sultan or SH?

phaolo: LOL Lift and Micro were mafia.. I didn't understand s**t too XD

Btw town has been unlucky too, we had crap role types (no cop?) and those players were killed immediately.
I'm awful at spotting mafia, but enjoy the interactions. I can honestly and safely say that this is the first game of mafia I have been in where I knew who the scum were!
it was sheer happenstance that they were offed afaik. :O
avatar
gogtrial34987: Good decision from scum to NK me, as I had seen Lift visiting Catte, and thus would've been all over his case today based on his play.

Micro's JOAT claim should've sent alarm bells ringing, given that it included a watcher (which I was), but yeah, phaolo just didn't have the experience to immediately see that and unvote.

@Micro: good job on your first scum game!

Sorry town for being so convincingly wrong two days in a row, and not pursuing my third scum-pick from D1. :(
Thanks. :D
It was pure dumb luck due to me being paranoid and scared out of my socks from our interactions on D1. i grossly underestimated you D1 going intot hat conflict, and then couldn't seem to escape intact. As a result, i chose you long before the EOD2, and just skimmed the end to make sure there were no major changes.

Sorry you couldn't use the knowledge you had gained.

I had to go with one of the adjectives I had hidden in my claim, and I also wanted to claim that I'd tracked etc those I actually visited for fear that I had been tracked and there'd be a conflict. :O

You did your job quite well. You had us worried that you were a PR, and Lift investigated you as a result of that breadcrumb! Congrats!

Court of the Sultan was a game hosted by Cadaver here https://www.gog.com/forum/general/court_of_the_sultan_1_janissary_revolt Basically, you try to survive as the winning faction, but your win condition can change mid-game. it was a lot of fun.

SH is "secret Hitler", similar to what is played on secrethitler.io
https://www.gog.com/forum/general/secret_hitler_3_beyond_stardom/page1 basically the scum team wants to pass Red Policies, while the Town team wants to pass Blue policies. The generic player votes on who to be Chancelllor/president, without knowing alignment of anyone. the higher ranked guy in government for that turn passes 2 of 3 cards to the VP, and the VP discards one of those 2. The remaining card is the policy for that turn. No one exists the game, everyone votes, and it is a lot of fun (at least for me).

The rules and a far better explanation are here: https://www.gog.com/forum/general/secret_hitler_3_beyond_stardom_signup_thread/page1
The rulebook on which this game is based is here: https://secrethitler.com/assets/Secret_Hitler_Rules.pdf

(And because some have asked over the years, it isn't glorifying the historical people in any way.)

Ah.. well, they seem variations of Mafia.
I think I'm not very much into these social deduction games in general. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
avatar
nmillar: Micro and phaolo with Lift / Vitek as scum is looking very plausible now.
avatar
nmillar: Damn it, I was so close!
Sorry that you were the unfortunate one to whom fell the end-of-game wreath, but you played extremely well and it was hard for me to find anything of yours to say against you. If I hadn't been scum, you would have been among my town-locks for sure.
avatar
Microfish_1: Also, we are praising God because we learned Friday (the 2nd) that my dad does not have cancer, so that is a huge relief to me/my family.
FUCH YEAH!!

Okay, fair enough. It was good to play this game with you! Thank you for playing with us and giving this a try!

it had been quite a concern, due to an sore stomach on and off (now on and mixed with pain) since June 27-ish. The relief is still sinking in.

well, i rofld at the obsever thread, so thank you for that. :D xD

@ZFR what is /m51??
where did @gogtrial breadcrumb?

/m40 ROFL!!!

Gogtrial m38: I was a watcher, not a tracker.
Also, it's a sad state of affairs when the observer thread is noticeably more active than the game thread...

ZFR m40:
/m38 If you think the game thread is not active, you should see the scum thread.
At this rate the observer thread will have more posts.
I definitely wasn't the same as always. The last three times I've played as town (so excluding the neutral haunters game, where I jestered after two days), I was killed after one, one and two days in the game. That's not quite ZFR-level bad, but not good either. So I've been trying more and more to pack in as much action as I can in the time which is given to me.

The one thing which is consistent about my play, is that my reads are always wrong. This is by far my strongest tell. If I successfully get scum killed, I'm scum myself. If I'm wrong and we lynch town, then I'm town, too. Given my track record with reading, I really don't understand why scum don't keep me around for longer. :P
sorry; i was just scared of your logic chains.

@gogtrial at one point i asked for your thought on something -or-other in the observer thread; do you have it yet?

gnight all

Still my favourite Fawlty Towers scene

Ahh, I never bothered translating my surname and forgot the name entirely by N1 so the reference seemed subtle with the forgotten context.
