not a galaxy issue but I didn't want to make a new thread. for about a month it keeps saying that I have replies on the forums but I don't. any help is appreciated. tested on two devices.
gog galaxy sucks if you are not on your admin account! every update wants me to insert my PW 10 thousand times... i tried to start gog galaxy as admin but it wouldnt chage anything. it still asks for my PW everytime gog has an update or one of the games has an update. i uninstall that shit now! steam doesnt have those problems even though it is installed on the same account as the gog galaxy client.
not GOG glaxys fault if your using any application on a standard windows account it asks for a password if it bothers you that much switch to admin if your not allowed to do that or wont, maybe copy and paste password so you dont have to type it
tbh steam has alot more issues than GOG does, thing is with GOG you dnt need galaxy to play or download games cos its DRM free which GOG always want to be, enjoy have steam all the time on your pc and never actually owning your games, your basically paying full price for game rental on steam cos you cant play steam games without steam which is why i love GOG so much

Is there a way to stop Galaxy from starting up without asking when I install new games? I download the basic non-galaxy installers because I don't want to play through Galaxy, I only have Galaxy for Stardew Valley's Multiplayer, and that is the only time I want to use it and I really don't like programs starting without me being the one to start them.

I thought that games I install would only be added to Galaxy if I had it running while I install them or that I would be able to add them by choice, but it seems like it keeps track of what I do even though it's closed. I tried finding something in the settings that would stop it from doing that but I'm new to Galaxy and am a bit confused as to how to configure it.

Don't launch from installer or use shortcuts created by installer / Galaxy. Install the game, close the installer, & instead create a new shortcut directly to the games EXE.

NOTICE: It's been 623 days since the last major Galaxy update (1.2) or 1 year, 8 months, 14 days. Will GOG actually manage to release 1.3 in 2019? Let's continue to wait to find out.

bouncedk: omg you still have not fixed that your downloads extracts to the system temp folder, and then unpacks to the install folder. It's been like 5 years now? How long does it take? Stop killing peoples ssd's.

Just install directly to the chosen folder, like steam does. You try so hard to be steam, do so.
I think you better check again, from what I can tell Galaxy does download directly to the install folder. I know they use to use a temp folder a long time ago, but I don't believe it does that anymore on the newer versions. Goodies like offline installers still download to a temp folder, but it's a temp folder inside the install location.

Galaxy still puts a butch of crap in ProgramData though, but I believe it uses less space than it use too...

Save syncing is a great features; but I have a minor request:

Is there a way to disable notifications for when saves have been synced? Currently when I quit a game, about half a minute later a little notification slides up from the bottom right of the screen saying that GOG Galaxy has synced the save games to the cloud. I'd like to disable that notification.

I've checked the GG notification settings, and the only one that is even close to being relevant is "installing / updating status" - which I have disabled. I suppose the cloud sync notification is just missing from the settings screen.

Thanks for the info I Love GOG!!
I suppose this is the place to ask...

Considering the following:
I really like being able to install without first downloading the offline files.
But I really loathe
- being forced to be online
- being forced to update (I may or may not like certain bugs or features)
- losing saves when Galaxy forces a sync when i need to close the computer *now*
- losing saves when Galaxy borks the save sync for whatever reason
- anything overlay-related
- startup time

Had Galaxy improved to the point I should give it a shot?
avatar
Roffel: - being forced to be online
Galaxy works fully offline, just turn off your wifi, etc before use. The only time you would need to be online is if you want to play MP for certain games.

avatar
Roffel: - being forced to update (I may or may not like certain bugs or features)
Game updates can be disabled. Even client updates now require admin privileges so you can even disregard client updates.

avatar
Roffel: - losing saves when Galaxy forces a sync when i need to close the computer *now*
- losing saves when Galaxy borks the save sync for whatever reason
Not sure why you would ever lose a save. Saves are stored locally then uploaded to the cloud if cloud saving is on. If Galaxy fails to sync is should sync the next time you play.

avatar
Roffel: - anything overlay-related
Can be disabled.

avatar
Roffel: - startup time
Needs work still, but better than it use to be.

avatar
Roffel: Had Galaxy improved to the point I should give it a shot?
Galaxy is improving slowly but it is improving and defiantly worth checking out again if you haven't done so in a long time.
avatar
Will do
Thank you
avatar
Roffel: Will do
Thank you
Additionally:
You can disable cloud saves completely if you don't need them. Or - if sync is broken - Galaxy will ask which one it should prefer.
Not only can you disable auto-update globally or per-game, you can also rollback to previous versions of games if the current version is giving you headaches (don't expect "newer" savegames with an old game version though).
Recently discovered a game where the CloudSaves folder has savegame files up to December 28 but nothing between then and today compared to the usual savegame folder that is up to date. This game says it is syncing after every time I close it yet is missing several days of savegame files from the CloudSaves folder.

Also still having the issue when Galaxy first opens will not accept password, I have to close the window the open a new one for the first password of the day to work. I reported this once before months ago.
I don't know if it's a GOG Galaxy bug, but something strange is going on with the activity feed.

When you start a game that you haven't played before, there should be a notification in the activity feed. Correct me if I'm wrong, but as far as I remember, these notifications were instant.

Now these notifications show up only after an hour of playing and have the wrong time.

Here is an example: the game was launched at 13:00, notification in activity feed appeared at 14:00 and says that this event happened two hours ago (that is, at 12:00).

Playing time tracking works correctly. The problem is only with these notifications.
