Hi, everyone!

The Galaxy team is hard at work to bring you the Client application that will let you manage your GOG.com games library more conveniently. We’d love for the initial release experience to be as smooth and streamlined as possible for everyone, but releasing an app of this scope is no easy feat.

But before we jump in and hand out the alpha Client, we’d like to set some ground rules.

1) The key word here is ‘alpha’, which means that this is not the final app and not all functionalities are present. The purpose of this test is to evaluate the core tech in the Client on a wider set of computer configurations than what we can locally test on, so only core features are included. Below I will post a detailed list of what is present and what we plan to add in future releases.

2) Alpha also means that you can encounter some unexpected issues. If you have a metered connection (a bandwidth cap or payments per bandwidth used) or you’re currently playing and can’t afford a loss of game time, this might not be for you. In other words, if you want to avoid potential problems with the alpha Client, simply wait for the final release.

3) Please, please, please refrain from posting screenshots, reviews or first impressions, both on our forums or elsewhere, as this is not the final product and many changes will still be made.

If you’ve read all of the above proceed to the signup page: http://www.gog.com/galaxy/alpha

We will be sending out invitations in batches (along with some more info on how to install the client and report bugs), so not everyone will receive one right away.

HOW TO IMPORT EXISTING GAMES INSTALLATIONS INTO GALAXY

1. For GOG games installed using installers from the last few months (so called Galaxy-compatible installers)
Click the "+" button on top of the sidebar and select "scan and import folders" - it will find all compatible games within that folder and add them to the Client.

2. For remaining GOG game INSTALLATIONS
Find the game in the Library, then click the More button and select "Manage" -> "Import folder" and point the folder selector into the folder where that game is installed.

A feature I'd like to be added quickly is the ability to pause and resume downloads, like the older download client does.
My DL speed is unfortunately not very fast and I may not want to leave my computer on for the entire duration of a game's download.

Other than that, the client is pretty good so far. It looks nice, it's very intuitive to use and there is useful options.

Destro: It is an issue with all DLC-featuring games previously installed with the Client. Sadly you will have to re-download these.
If I re-download both will I be able to install DLC from the client? Because Pillars of Eternity sort of fixed itself because of the client bug that doesn't show second page games as Installed so it let me reinstall it. The only downside is that DLC can't be installed. Divinity, on the other hand, can't be reinstalled with the same trick because it appears on the first page of the library.
Does anyone know if there will be a Linux version during the alpha?

Paul31286: 2. In Windows 7, if you snap the Galaxy window to the left or right half of your screen, a second scroll bar for the library will appear.

Destro: I believe it's related to window width - could you please report it to http://mantis.gog.com. Thanks!
I just did. Very interesting to get kind of an inside view of the whole process. :)

Oh, one other thing: Are you planning on implementing a filter option for the library to display currently installed games only?

On the left side of your window it should show installed games.
One thing the Steam client does right is the ability to not install Start menu and desktop shortcuts for games handled by the client. I'd really like to not have to go through and manually remove all the shortcuts every time a game is updated.

Aside from that I'd like to see an option to save the patches locally so I can transfer them to my external where I keep all my GOG games in case I ever need to reinstall without internet access.

These aren't so bad taken together. Those annoying shortcuts let me know I need to get online and download a patch manually so I have a current version on my external.

Aside from those things it's looking great. The view options are still a bit sparse, but from the look of the current client I suspect that is something that's already being worked on as there are unclickable areas that look like they will change that when implemented.
When checking "Manage all folders manually" in the settings, you can specify separate folders for "Download games to" and "Download extras to". So I set up two folders, called one "GOG installers" and the other "GOG Extras", and then tried downloading a game with its extras.

What happened then was that the extras were in fact downloaded to the folder "GOG Extras", and the installer was downloaded to "GOG Installers", as I had expected. After a download is finished, however, the installer is then automatically copied to "GOG Extras".

Is this how it's intended to work? If so, there doesn't seem to be a point to being able to specify separate folders in the settings. I don't think I'd necessarily need separate folders, I was just wondering whether this is intentional.

Oh, I see. I thought that was just the download/import queue.

I had actually already reported this, same happens with the store too. Lol

In Download games to: path, you set temporary folder for downloaded games. Nothing stays there after complete download.

It's not suppose too, Galaxy temporarily stores downloads there while downloading before moving them to your game location after completion.

I have a question. Why does it take so long for your play time to update? Seems to take a good bit after exiting a game to update to the new time.

Is there somewhere I can submit a bug report manually?

On a high DPI display the client is unusable.
To update, Galaxy has been working fine since updating Windows 10 Technical Preview. This is probably due to the fact that its basically just a reskin of windows 8 in pretty much every way, so windows 8 applications work fine on it.

I'm really enjoying the client, and I love that GOG games can finally have their time played tracked. If I have an issue, it's that from the looks of it the client doesn't register you as playing the game or clock your gametime unless you launch it from the application itself. If you launch from a shortcut on the desktop or elsewhere Galaxy doesn't know you're playing it. Seems like a problem arising from the fact that the games are DRM-free, so its kinda hard to complain!

sure http://mantis.gog.com
Thanks!

Not even Steam (or Origin for that matter) handles DPI scaling appropriately (just upscales, results in a hideous blurry UI).. I'll officially be changing my favorite dev from Valve to CDP if they pull it off.
Just downloaded mine,I guess it's downloading all of the updates?? Feel's good to be apart the testing :) I feel all warm and fuzzy.
