Try the DRM-free online gaming platform.

<span class="bold">GOG Galaxy</span>: our truly gamer-friendly, DRM-free online gaming platform. As we shared our vision with the world, we promised auto-patching, social functionality like chat, friends lists, and achievements. We promised our own multiplayer support and cross-play with Steam. Most importantly, we promised truly optional.

Today we deliver.
The <span class="bold">GOG Galaxy</span> client enters beta, open to anyone, with the most important functionality ready to try, test, enjoy (and break) at your leisure. We're proud to have gotten this far, and we know that we couldn't have done it without you all - that's everyone who spent months in alpha testing, that's those of you who talked to us about your needs and expectations, and it's every single one of you that has supported us since ever. So thanks, GOG Galaxy is for you!

With the <span class="bold">GOG Galaxy Beta</span>, you can install your games in one click and keep them up to date automatically, the beta currently supports this feature in all but a couple of titles available here. You can also perform backups easily by downloading a standalone installer through GOG Galaxy. The beta features a friends list, game time tracking, achievements, and chat. You can now talk to each other, connect with your group of friends, and see what everyone is playing. You can also try out our online multiplayer & matchmaking solution that, in select titles, includes cross-play: platform-independent multiplayer between gamers on GOG.com and Steam. If you download a patch that breaks something or if you just change your mind, the app will soon feature a unique rollback option to restore a previous version of your game.

Best of all, GOG Galaxy is optional. If you don't want to use any additional software, your experience with us won't change at all. If you only want to take advantage of select conveniences, you can toggle them on and off. It's all totally up to you.

You can sign up for the <span class="bold">GOG Galaxy Beta</span> and find out more on <span class="bold">gog.com/galaxy</span>, where we tell you about the features and answer many of the questions you may have. We'll be watching the forums carefully, so feel free to leave a comment if there is anything else that you'd like to know!
Okay Im using Galaxy as we speak to write this from.
First the Libary is exactly like on website. Except it tells you the game is installed or not.
Plus it looks a damn lot better than steam. & Im not going to touch origin uplay blah blah with a very long wooden pole.

The store page is also like it is on the website. (have searched & havent found any early access abandon ware)

I re purchesed the star was saber pack I already had on steam. The reason I click on it & all the games work. On steam it was google forum & pray to the gaming gods. (I have a bundle of games on steam I have never managed to get working).

So have checked all my save games have surrvived & dont have to wate for Galaxy to verify etc before I can play a bloody game.

Only downside is having to redownload around 1/4 of my games. I never uninstalled them & have so far encountered no issues.

Another plus is the auto update. I came to GOG via my free witcher 3 code with my nvidia card. I like GOG the fact old games work. But the no auto update was a pain. But my exp with Galaxy so far is good & cant wait for the additional features.

tinyE: Cool. That's going to save me a few days. XD

Okay I think that covers in about now.

mike_cesara: Games downloaded through Galaxy are uncompressed as for now. You may still, however, download regular, offline installer from extras. Depends on your connection, it can take some time. Importing installed games doesn't seem like a bad choice. : )
When I imported all my games it stopped at AoW High Treason and has been what looks like updating for 10 minutes now. Have no clue. :P
Do they really need to keep us waiting this long with the invites? Almost 24 hours for me now since I signed up. How long did you guys already using it have to wait?

Patience is the key I guess ; )
And please, keep in mind it is still beta and not all games are supported. Some of them you will have to download again. Even when games are imported, still some files will be downloaded. Again, may take some time..
have anyone here received access to galaxy in past 24 hours?

I also needed to wait for at least a day and got the invite yesterday evening. Waiting is never fun, is it. Please be patient. The longer they let you wait, the better the client becomes in the meantime. :)

Anyway it's just a better (or worse) downloader plus webview at the moment.

Excellent Stuff! Well done GOG.. Installed and scanning for existing games.. I would love to see your unstated goal ;) of replacing steam ;).. Anyway, it was my birthday 2 days ago, so this is a great free gift. Thanks for all the clean code too..

well, to give you some perspective.
Take the time it takes you to write this line : 1000 bottles on a shelf take one down and theres 999 bottles on the shelf. And do not copy it.
The time woud be the result adding the amount of users that want to use galaxy.
So if it takes you lets say 2 minutes to write it, then you can add this with forexample 10000 users.
2*10000 is 20000 minutes.
There is 60 minutes in one hour and
1440 minutes in a day.
Dont forget that they have to eat and take breaks as well.
so alot of users will off course take longer.

evilnancyreagan: I love how much they emphasize the optional nature of the client.
wild horses couldn't keep me away.
LOL, they kind of have to keep drilling that home though both for people just learning Galaxy exists, and to constantly reinforce the idea into the minds of skeptics. But it serves another purpose deeper than that too which I think some might not immediately realize, which actually is even more beneficial to the skeptics.

That is to say that the more they say it and entrench it in people's minds the more it is expected as the only possibility there can ever be, and the more they voluntarily give ammunition to those very skeptics in the unlikely event they were to ever do something to make it non-optional.

In other words, IMHO it makes it an ever increasing self fulfilling prophecy and that is positive reinforcement and can't possibly be a bad thing. I personally would find it even more amusing if they mentioned the word optional 5 times as much even multiple times in the same sentence almost like doing a Saturday Night Live spoof of themselves or something lighthearted like that. :)

Yeah, I'm finally friends with tinyE! Not sure what to do with that fact, but it's about the principle...
The client is pretty nice, though I'm anxiously awaiting the new features. I also hope it will hog less resources in the future. 200-250 MB RAM is too much for a client that's supposed to sit in the background, in my opinion.

I also just got my invitation, but since I already got it from Potzato, I will post mine in this thread as well:

Please reply/PM me if you redeem it.

EDIT: redeem'd

I have got to say, cruising and posting on the forums through Galaxy is slick. Hopefully will have more time to play around with this stuff on the weekend. I'm really liking it.
