Please use: http://mantis.gog.com and include
1. steps to reproduce the bug (if possible)
2. screenshot or movie showing the bug (if possible)
3. Galaxy Client logs (see below)

Where can I find Galaxy logs on my computer?
On Windows 7 or later: C:\ProgramData\GOG.com\Galaxy\Logs
On Mac OS X: /Users/Shared/GOG.com/Galaxy/Logs

== FEATURE SUGGESTIONS ==

Please use: http://www.gog.com/wishlist/galaxy. For feature suggestions and votes on them please try do explain how Galaxy and its users will really benefit from it.

== IMPORT ALREADY INSTALLED GAMES TO GALAXY ==

1. For GOG games installed using installers from the last few months (so called Galaxy-compatible installers)
Click the Galaxy logo button on top of the sidebar and select "scan and import folders" - it will find all compatible games within that folder and add them to the Client.

2. For remaining GOG game INSTALLATIONS
Find the game in the Library (click on the image of the game), then click the More button and select "Manage Installation" -> "Import folder" and point the folder selector into the folder where that game is installed.

== KNOWN ISSUES ==
- throttling max download speed is not yet possible
- notifications related to incoming chat messages and friend requests does not always disappear instantly when consumed and may require reloading Store page
- games imported from existing installations will auto-update once, even if updating is disabled
- Moving Galaxy from /Applications on Mac OS X will stop the app from working
- Galaxy cannot be launched by other users on the same computer

For everyone who has a problem with missing api-ms-crt dlls in Client's versions post 1.1.5:
Please install one of those windows update: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2999226 https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3118401
You may need to update Windows to meet the requirements for these:
For Windows 8.1 and for Windows Server 2012: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2919355
For Windows 7 and for Windows Server 2008 R2: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/976932

You can also try reinstalling Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables 2015 (x86) if you meet above requirements.
Available here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=48145

If above instructions doesn't work for you, create a separate issue on mantis.gog.com and we'll try to help you individually.

Please note that this solution only helps with the missing api-ms-crt dlls.

Answering this question: Why 1.1 doesn't work after updating to 1.2?

This is happening probably due to incompatible database from version 1.2, please delete this folder:
%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\GOG.com\Galaxy\storage
usually
C:\ProgramData\GOG.com\storage\

Then you'll have to use scan&import (menu under the top Galaxy logo) function to see your games back in Galaxy Client.

Ok so... bring back the feature where I can download backups and extras to another location please.
avatar
skeletonbow: As a few people have mentioned, Galaxy 1.1 let you configure 3 separate directories in settings, however 1.2 only lets you choose where you install your games to but not where you download them or use for temp storage.

This has made it impossible for me to use Galaxy to download because I don't know where it is trying to download to for starters, and my normal download area has space but wherever Galaxy is trying to save to not only does not have space, but it wont get any space either so I'm locked out of downloading updated game installers using Galaxy now until I figure it out.

Do we have to use Windows junction points to force it to put things where we want it now, or is this just an oversight that will be fixed in a future update hopefully? If the former, where is Galaxy downloading things to?
From the changelog:
- Games are now downloaded directly to their install directory, instead of a temporary location

So that one location is used for everything now.
Repeating this here from the other thread, so people can find it more easily:

Ugh...... I figured out where game backups get downloaded to.... <facepalm>

Nobody's going to like this....

In Galaxy 1.1, I had it configured to:

E:\GOG Games (Install games here)
F:\Games\GOG Galaxy Downloads\TEMP (temp download folder for in-progress downloads)
F:\Games\GOG Galaxy Downloads\ (completed downloads)

My game backup drive is for archival - F:
My game installation drive is for game installation and playing the games - E:

In Galaxy 1.2, it kept my configuration of "E:\GOG Games" for game installation. Thanks for that.

It blew away the configuration of where games are downloaded to and no longer uses the directories where I told it to put my downloads. There is no visible way to configure it anywhere including the Windows registry nor an INI file. So where does it put the downloads?

Scattered all over your game INSTALLATION drive, with each game's downloads going into a subfolder where the game would normally get installed to if you installed it with Galaxy, thus intermixing the concept of game "installation" with the concept of game "downloading and archival for backup purposes".

I don't know what to say. This is ridiculous and a big major let down. The new client has great new features and looks much prettier and I'm excited about that stuff, but I've been using Galaxy for downloading all my game backups for 2 years now roughly and it has worked mostly rather good, but if there is no way to configure the download directory and that is a permanent decision, then I'm very sad that it is going to be useless to me. :(

I do not have the space on E: to download all my backups to, nor do I want my backups intermixed with my installed games themselves, that makes no logical sense whatsoever.

It is IMHO like configuring your web browser, torrent client, whatever to download all of your random files online into:

C:\Windows\System32

um, no.

So there are a half dozen or more game updates today and no way to download them with Galaxy as it insists on downloading to the installation drive.

<massive sigh>

Which is completely unacceptable.

I agree that for archiving purposes and in regards to the extras, it is a bad decision which makes no sense when the previously defined 3 folder system worked fine.

But, maybe they want a system where the games are just downloaded as is and can be run without requiring extraction/installation. In that scenario it would be pointless to have multiple directories since it would just mean duplicate data.

But hey, who knows what they were thinking, right? :-)

skeletonbow: snip
Eh I'm 50/50 on it. I do think you should be able to configure this either globally or on a game by game basis. But I actually don't mind having stuff actually in the game's installation's folder it belongs too. Makes it a bit easy to find since Galaxy has a button to show the installation folder.

I assume by it no longer using the temp folder, this means Galaxy no longer needs to download a game to a separate temp folder and then move it to the installation directory by extracting it. Which to me is a good thing or am I wrong about that?

It drives me nuts when perfectly good working software features and configurability just vanish from a new version of a program, replaced with nothing that meets the needs of the person who formerly relied upon it. I don't want to have to pray every time I update something that core aspects of what I use the software for have been ripped out.

I love everything else about the new client, but downloading is an absolute mission critical core feature for me and without it, I'm back to GOG Downloader like everyone else that can't use Galaxy. If that's the way it has to be, so be it, but my rampant enthusiasm for Galaxy is going to wane somewhat in the process.

Time to go help reverse engineer the protocol perhaps.... where's that debugger...
avatar
skeletonbow: snip
Yea I could see how it could be a problem for those who want to keep backups on a different drive, nobody wants to have to manually copy every backup over.

For me though, I stopped keeping backups because it's way to much bandwidth and trouble keeping up with it. I think the better option is to finally add a real backup solution.

One that allow us to backup game files downloaded by Galaxy within Galaxy by packaging them into a zip (with install scripts) or an actual installer and allowing us to specify where those backups should be kept... similar to Steam.

Basically my same feelings about every Firefox or Android app update XD

TheTomasz: I honestly don't know where i got this 22 from, but it seems we liked it a lot :)
Thanks for releasing 1.2, really appreciate the hard work you guys put into Galaxy and GOG! :D
I'm sure this has been stated already, but since it cannot be overstated enough:

Don't make the rookie mistake of making the overlay hotkey the same as Steam!
Great update, GOG.

For those having problems with there backup solutions not going where they choose, there is a work around. You can create a symbolic link to your preferred location using an administrator elevated command prompt.

You will need to delete the !Downloads folder in C:\Program FIles (x86)\GOG Galaxy\Games and creating a TEMP folder in your prefered location before proceeding.

Open as Administrator cmd.exe and type the following ( please make appropriate changes for your system ):
If you want your game downloads to use another storage device
mklink /D "C:\Program Files (x86)\GOG Galaxy\Games\!Downloads" "F:\Games\GOG Galaxy Downloads\TEMP"
If you want to make a backup or store goodies onto another storage device, use the following
mklink /D "C:\Program Files (x86)\GOG Galaxy\Games\GAME DIRECTORY\!Downloads" "F:\Games\GOG Galaxy Downloads\"
mklink /D "C:\Program Files (x86)\GOG Galaxy\Games\GAME DIRECTORY\!Temp" "F:\Games\GOG Galaxy Downloads\TEMP"

The !Temp folder will delete after backup, so having to create the symbolic link for backups is a little less convinient.

Hope that helps.

EDIT:
This also works for the !Cloud Sync Backup directory found in the games !Downloads directory.

My Witcher 3 saves catalog is about 2.8 GB. I don't need 99% od those saves, but I don't care about it (I don't desperately need additional disk space). Because of 2.8 GB of saves it took about 50 minutes between pressing Play button for Witcher 3 in Gog Galaxy 1.2.0 and Witcher 3 starting/running. It is because for 50 minutes cloud saves for Witcher 3 were synchronizing (saves were being uploaded to GOG Galaxy servers with almost all my upload bandwidth used). I wonder how much time it would take to synchronize for people with really slow internet connection?

Holy smokes.

God I'm loving this beta.
Nice update. One big Issue I still have is that I can't see my game library (the grid view which I prefer) If I have no internet connection. Can you please fix this issue gog? It can act the same way as the list view currently which shows installed games, I just prefer that view compared to the list.
