Please use: http://mantis.gog.com and include
1. steps to reproduce the bug (if possible)
2. screenshot or movie showing the bug (if possible)
3. Galaxy Client logs (see below)

Where can I find Galaxy logs on my computer?
On Windows 7 or later: C:\ProgramData\GOG.com\Galaxy\Logs
On Mac OS X: /Users/Shared/GOG.com/Galaxy/Logs

== FEATURE SUGGESTIONS ==

Please use: http://www.gog.com/wishlist/galaxy. For feature suggestions and votes on them please try do explain how Galaxy and its users will really benefit from it.

== IMPORT ALREADY INSTALLED GAMES TO GALAXY ==

1. For GOG games installed using installers from the last few months (so called Galaxy-compatible installers)
Click the Galaxy logo button on top of the sidebar and select "scan and import folders" - it will find all compatible games within that folder and add them to the Client.

2. For remaining GOG game INSTALLATIONS
Find the game in the Library (click on the image of the game), then click the More button and select "Manage Installation" -> "Import folder" and point the folder selector into the folder where that game is installed.

== KNOWN ISSUES ==
- throttling max download speed is not yet possible
- notifications related to incoming chat messages and friend requests does not always disappear instantly when consumed and may require reloading Store page
- games imported from existing installations will auto-update once, even if updating is disabled
- Moving Galaxy from /Applications on Mac OS X will stop the app from working
- Galaxy cannot be launched by other users on the same computer

Please install one of those windows update: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2999226 https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3118401
You may need to update Windows to meet the requirements for these:
For Windows 8.1 and for Windows Server 2012: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2919355
For Windows 7 and for Windows Server 2008 R2: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/976932

You can also try reinstalling Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables 2015 (x86) if you meet above requirements.
Available here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=48145

If above instructions doesn't work for you, create a separate issue on mantis.gog.com and we'll try to help you individually.

Please note that this solution only helps with the missing api-ms-crt dlls.

Answering this question: Why 1.1 doesn't work after updating to 1.2?

This is happening probably due to incompatible database from version 1.2, please delete this folder:
%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\GOG.com\Galaxy\storage
usually
C:\ProgramData\GOG.com\storage\

Then you'll have to use scan&import (menu under the top Galaxy logo) function to see your games back in Galaxy Client.

Ok, an update on the problem. I tinkered a bit and ended up deleting galaxy.db and starting the client. It came up this time, re-established the database, automatically detected all of the games I had installed and seems to work. Not only that but it did it all rather amazingly fast too which was nice. It seems to start up ok now, so if anyone has a crash similar to what I reported above, just blow away galaxy.db and restart and it seems that fixes it.

I'm now downloading various files that wouldn't download properly before so I can confirm the new build fixes the download issues at least for me so far.

Two thumbs up and a round of virtual fantasy pizza. :)
Hey,

we have just released new version of Galaxy, 1.1.16. Most notably, we've added support for H.264 encoded videos (this should fix problems with YT videos not playing) and improved flow with paying using third party processors (like PayPal or paysafecard).

We're very sorry, but unfortunately we've encountered troubles with keeping Windows XP and Vista support for Galaxy and with this release, we must announce that Galaxy will no longer work on these systems. We want to keep moving forward and to offer you guys modern and best solutions available.

1.1.17 update:

We have just pushed quick hotfix (1.1.17) for Galaxy. Hotfix corrects the problem which occurred after Galaxy was updated from 1.1.12 to 1.1.16 (skipped few versions).
The bug caused crashes or Disk Access Problem on installation/update of the game.

TomaszGOG: Hey,

We have just released 1.1.15 for everyone. It's an improved version of Galaxy, which was available on preview.
It contains fixes for broken database (galaxy.db) as well as fix for downloading backup & goodies:)

And among the fixes, we squeezed in adding the button for recently released Wallet feature:)

There unfortunately is one known bug to us, which we will handle within the next release (probably next week).
It's related to directory permissions in Program Files folder. For now, as a workaround we can suggest installing to
a non-protected location, for example to C:\GOG Games\.
This update broke my database (failed to load message). However using skeletenbow'S way I deleted the datavase file, stopped galaxyclient service and started again. Now it works.
Where can I see the patchnotes of the preview build? I think I'll stick with the stable version, but I'd like to see where the client is headed to.
Why does Galaxy always seem to tell me that updates are available for installed games despite the installed game version definitely being the latest? Is this a known bug? I have attached an example screenshot where I have v1.4 of Wolfenstein 3D installed, which is the latest, and yet Galaxy tells me there is an update available.

I end up setting all of my installed games to only install updates Manually to bypass this problem.

For me this sounds as if you have installed the game using backup installers. Unfortunateley even by using the latest version of these Galaxy have to download additional data before considering it up to date. This additional data should not be much (can vary between a few MB or a few hundred MB) however sometimes GAlaxy simply does not recognize the installed game at all and want to redownload it completeley. THIS is bnot normal behaviour and should be repported to mantis.

I have indeed installed these games using the "backup" installers. I was so expecting logic in this situation that the "backup" installer I was downloading would be identical to any other copy of that game's installer for the same version of the game. So, are you saying that the normal and accepted behaviour is that when a game is installed using the "backup" installer Galaxy will not accept this as up to date and will always download additional data of a few MB to a few hundred MB? If this is the case then that is a ridiculous design and I'll just stop using Galaxy other than for downloading the backup files.

BTW - what is this additional data that Galaxy downloads?

Does anyone know if I can install a game through the client without an internet connection?

Galaxy downloads updated copies of the goggame*.info file and a number of other related Galaxy support files that may be present so that the versions of things are compatible with the actual version of Galaxy you're running. The initial files present allow it to detect the game and identify it more or less. It also downloads redistributables such as needed versions of DirectX, PhysX or other files that you may or may not have and caches them in case they're needed. It downloads some other metadata as well that may be related to the icons shown in Galaxy or other things to make it show up right within the client etc. Some of these things might be duplicates of things it already downloaded for some other game perhaps and I think they're working on optimizing that. It also has to compare the files on your hard disk with those on the Galaxy server to determine if the game is the current version or not to know if an update is available or if the game is corrupted in some way. If it finds missing or modified files it may assume the game is corrupt and redownload additional data to ensure it is uncorrupted.

No, not directly. You can download the game installer through the client and install it manually later without an Internet connection but you can't do it directly within the Galaxy client itself.

It is like skeletenbow said and yes, I do agree that the design of Galaxy in this point is as stupid as it gets. What is the most obvious reason for a backup installer? To spare me the download. But if I use the backup Installer and would also want to use additional Galaxy features I will still have to download additional data - which makes the whole idea of an offline installer obsolete every time I also want to use Galaxy features. Obviously, however - it seems to be the only way GOG got this working and to be fair we don't know if other platforms (i.e.. Steam) would use the same mechanism because they offer no real backup installer (apart of the backup function which works not good) at all.

So what happens when I select "Manual" updates thereby preventing Galaxy from downloading (and installing?) the additional data? Do I lose the additional Galaxy features for that game?

What would be nice, at least, is for Galaxy to show you how much additional data will be downloaded and giving you the option of approving the download or not, i.e. add an option to the automatic updater that you can select to be prompted to confirm the download rather than doing it silently in the background.

I cannot tell you exactly and I managed to start games which - according to Galaxy - were corruptly installed anyway. Don't know what the downside of this would be.

You can see how many additional data Galaxy is about do download in the doownload cue to the left (one value is the total amount of download and the other is the actual). Galaxy will start the download automatically but if you are seeiong that the download will be too big for you you can always and without problems abort it since Galaxa is first downloading into a temp folder which won't affect your installation before it has been moved to the real directory.

I don't think the design of Galaxy is stupid, but rather it is currently incomplete both in terms of features and optimization due to the beta status. Some of these things will naturally get better over time. For example, there are only a handful of 3rd party redistributables that are commonly used with multitudes of games. It's anyone's guess as to how many, but there are only N versions of DirectX for example, maybe a few of PhysX, and various other things. I think Galaxy may end up downloading some or all of these per-game now, but in the future when it is all sorted out it would make sense for Galaxy to cache these things globally and recognize if it has already downloaded a version of DirectX that some other game now has as a dependency as well. In this case the post-install sync for that game would amount to talking to the server to find out DX8 is needed, checking the local cache to find out DX8 is already there and not downloading it again. The same could be done with other things Galaxy handles perhaps too. It might even do some of that already, not sure as it's kind of opaque unless GOG devs tell us about this stuff or one of us pokes under the hood and observes behaviour closely.

I'm sure GOG is committed to improving the efficiency of this stuff over time and that the current client isn't indicative of their master vision. We just need to patiently wait for it to smooth out over time. If we look through the changelogs we can see evidence that these sorts of improvements are being made over time too. One example:

Changelog 1.1.13 (August 24th, 2016 update):
Improvements / Changes:
• Redistributables (eg. directX) for games will be now installed only once. Verify/Repair will also install/reinstall them as part of repairing procedure

Not sure if that means it will only be downloaded and cached centrally once too or not, but it is an improvement at least. :)

If we specifically see Galaxy doing something seemingly dumb and inefficient for sure, we can always file a mantis report to highlight it and potentially raise the likelihood of it being addressed sooner. I know people have brought up a few inefficiencies here or in mantis already and the recent version changelogs show some improvements, such as the amount of CPU used on idle for example. That's still a problem for some, but they did make improvement to it so things are moving in the right direction at least. :)
