== BUG REPORTING ==

Please use: http://mantis.gog.com and include
1. steps to reproduce the bug (if possible)
2. screenshot or movie showing the bug (if possible)
3. Galaxy Client logs (see below)

Where can I find Galaxy logs on my computer?
On Windows 7 or later: C:\ProgramData\GOG.com\Galaxy\Logs
On Mac OS X: /Users/Shared/GOG.com/Galaxy/Logs

== FEATURE SUGGESTIONS ==

Please use: http://www.gog.com/wishlist/galaxy. For feature suggestions and votes on them please try do explain how Galaxy and its users will really benefit from it.

== IMPORT ALREADY INSTALLED GAMES TO GALAXY ==

1. For GOG games installed using installers from the last few months (so called Galaxy-compatible installers)
Click the Galaxy logo button on top of the sidebar and select "scan and import folders" - it will find all compatible games within that folder and add them to the Client.

2. For remaining GOG game INSTALLATIONS
Find the game in the Library (click on the image of the game), then click the More button and select "Manage Installation" -> "Import folder" and point the folder selector into the folder where that game is installed.

== KNOWN ISSUES ==
- throttling max download speed is not yet possible
- notifications related to incoming chat messages and friend requests does not always disappear instantly when consumed and may require reloading Store page
- games imported from existing installations will auto-update once, even if updating is disabled
- Moving Galaxy from /Applications on Mac OS X will stop the app from working
- Galaxy cannot be launched by other users on the same computer

For everyone who has a problem with missing api-ms-crt dlls in Client's versions post 1.1.5:
Please install one of those windows update: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2999226 https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3118401
You may need to update Windows to meet the requirements for these:
For Windows 8.1 and for Windows Server 2012: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2919355
For Windows 7 and for Windows Server 2008 R2: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/976932

You can also try reinstalling Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables 2015 (x86) if you meet above requirements.
Available here: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=48145

If above instructions doesn't work for you, create a separate issue on mantis.gog.com and we'll try to help you individually.

Please note that this solution only helps with the missing api-ms-crt dlls.

Answering this question: Why 1.1 doesn't work after updating to 1.2?

This is happening probably due to incompatible database from version 1.2, please delete this folder:
%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\GOG.com\Galaxy\storage
usually
C:\ProgramData\GOG.com\storage\

Then you'll have to use scan&import (menu under the top Galaxy logo) function to see your games back in Galaxy Client.

mm324: Exactly, we all know that the search function here at GOG works flawlessly. :p

LootHunter: I think, it shows how ineffective the "wishlist" system is. Because there should be only one item, not two. And in fact both requests were not exactly named "copy paste", so I don't know maybe people just couldn't find them.
If you truly want to see how effective the wishlist system is, peruse the "Games" section and look for all the titles marked "COMPLETED". It is effective at doing exactly what GOG needs it to do. Sure it could have a better UI and a number of other improvements, but it lets GOG know what features people want in the various categories and allows them to gauge interest. The wishlist is not a magical place that we make demands and they happen tomorrow instantly or ever, it is a way of communicating with GOG what we'd like to see and them being able to receive that information in a way that is manageable and gathers some statistical data. It doesn't mean that because something makes it to the top of the wish list that it will happen either though. Diablo and other Blizzard games are near the top of the wishlist for games, but that's rather unrealistic to expect to see Blizzard release games here and not any sign of ineffectiveness on GOG's part in processing the wishlist.

For Galaxy, GOG already has developed their own set of features they want to implement in the product and are hard at work doing that. They can peruse the wishlist and gauge the feasibility of a requested feature/functionality, the complexity and time it would take to implement and if they decide they like the idea and it makes sense for them they can insert it into their development timeline where it works best for allocation of human and other resources to work on.

Sorting the voted on list by total number of votes shows that...

https://www.gog.com/wishlist/galaxy#order=votes_total

... 3 of the top 4 items on the Galaxy wishlist are already complete with #5 "in progress" and many other items marked "in progress" as well. The list is also full of ridiculous feature or service requests that are infeasible in my mind for GOG to dedicate resources to, and other requests that don't make a lot of sense really. It's free form, people can ask for anything including a rainbow farting pony, but if it makes no sense then it probably wont happen. Of the things that do make sense, they'd most likely implement features that have the widest possible appeal first, as well as things that are arguably bugs (like lack of copy+paste for example), but as I mentioned above it comes down to priorities. If you put all of your major work on hold to reallocate all the developers to 500 "easy to fix" things, then you can keep doing that forever as there will be 500 new ones by the time you're done.

I don't expect to ever see any project/company's "wishlist" for any piece of software have a mile long row of green checkmarks, including with Galaxy. It will grow more over time though, but if anyone ever wants to see the official stable release then they need to have solid design goals of what "First stable release" will have in it and maybe a handful of small requests on top of that or it will never get out the door due to feature creep.

Don't get me wrong, I like GOG and want to see them succeed. But just look at the list you linked "When installing games , show the required amount of space." was on it. That's as basic as a speedometer in a car yet they didn't put it in before they pushed Galaxy out to the public. I get the impression that GOG is more interested in looking like they are trying to keep up with the competition rather than actually trying to keep up with the competition.

That search function (and the one in the forum) is terrible. In the past I've typed a name of a game and gotten no returns. But because I know how bad the search is, I manually searched only to find multiples of the game.

GOG is (now) my main store for buying games so I want to see them prosper, but sometimes it seems like they're flailing their arms in a dark room hoping to accidently hit the light switch.

Well, to play the devil's advocate, it's not like speed meters are necessary, anyway. You can feel the speed you're going at without looking at one, and knowing what the current gear is also helps. I only look at mine because I don't want to get easily avoidable fines and it's more precise than instinct, but I could do without one.

(Not saying I wouldn't like to see this feature added; it would be more convenient indeed.)

Um, speed meters are imperative. Perhaps you can "feel" how fast you're going, but what about fresh drivers? Do you really think they'll be able to tell whether it's 60km/h or 90km/h?

Yeah, right. "Offline achievements" and "FPS counter", which are "in progress" now are so-o-o much needed features than ability to conveniently copy and paste text during the discussion or look up a link or search without exiting the client.

Well, no. I was more talking for experienced drivers.

LootHunter: than ability to conveniently copy and paste text during the discussion or look up a link or search without exiting the client.
Copy pasting actually works, but selecting the text doesn't. Going in the chat pages does allow you to correctly select the text (and then use ctrl-c to copy it), and you can also copy/cut/paste in the reply boxes just fine. So as a workaround for non-locked threads, you can always press reply to the post you want to copy stuff from, mark said stuff, ctrl-c to copy it, then cancel the new post.
But yes, adding proper text select functionality would be much appreciated, but it's a different thing from adding copy/paste functionality (which, again, already exists in Galaxy).

See? That's the problem with wishlist! I mean, it works with games (at least those which has only one established name) but for features it's hard to call it correctly. Thus a lot of same wishes which people don't know about because they call it different (or think incorrectly).

I too do believe that Galaxy was originally made public before it had enough core features and functionality ready. It is my own speculation that this was because they wanted to capitalize off the launch of The Witcher 3 to draw as many people here to GOG.com to buy the game as possible by having a gaming client available which the masses generally expect at large these days. I can't fault them completely for that decision however as it was a calculated risk IMHO and an opportunity that was hard to pass up on because it's not every day that they have the opportunity to launch a product here that is ultra-highly anticipated and not every day CDPR puts out a new game. From a business sense they must have realized the power this could have in drawing new customers in and I hypothesize that "we gotta have the client out in some minimally working way no matter what in time for Witcher 3" became a priority. The official public beta of the client went live 1 week before Witcher 3 came out IIRC and they drew in about half or more than half of the sales of The Witcher 3 here due to this and other marketing techniques they used, so it was actually a brilliant idea overall from a business perspective - despite any downsides.

That is all of course pure speculation on my part but I think it is reasonable if one looks at the timing of various things that have happened since Galaxy was originally announced. I think had The Witcher 3 not gotten released until 2016 that we might not have seen the Galaxy client for another year perhaps. The downsides to the earlier release is that we just get to see more of the development warts that occur with any software in development, and we become more clearly aware of the actual time it takes to develop software of this scope because it's all under our daily scrutiny.

Having said all that though, I am quite happy that we do have a usable client right now though even with the warts. It find some benefits to using the software already versus the pre-Galaxy days and have faith that they'll make strides in bringing the biggest missing features to us in due time. At the same time though I realize we all must have zen-like patience to wait for such features to materialize, but they eventually will. Of course a bit of ranting and raving about things might speed up a few things along the way too though hehehe. There is some truth to squeaky wheel theory! :oP

LootHunter: Yeah, right. "Offline achievements" and "FPS counter", which are "in progress" now are so-o-o much needed features than ability to conveniently copy and paste text during the discussion or look up a link or search without exiting the client.
Everyone has features that they greatly desire sooner rather than later, so no matter what small list of specific features GOG developers might be working on with the available manpower and time they have, someone else out there can say exactly what you just said and point to some feature they're not working on currently. When there are more features wanted than developers and time available, "yeah right" can be said about any feature not currently being advertised as "in progress". If they were working on a number of the features people have recently brought up currently and the ones you highlighted as in-progress were not - then someone else would point those two features out and say "yeah right, when will they do offline achievements and FPS counter?".

Ultimately it's a situation where they can't possibly do alright by every single person's standard and expectations. They need to look beyond the desires of individual users or groups of users and see the big picture and allocate their resources to work on the big picture knowing full well that some people will be disappointed in the short term no matter what they do. As Adama says... "Sometimes you gotta roll the hard six." Even though the lack of some features in Galaxy bothers me too, I have sympathy for the developers for this situation because it's an impossible job. "You can please some of the people all of the time, and you can please all of the people some of the time, but you can't please all of the people all of the time."

We can grunt and moan about some things from time to time, and I do too... but we need to also pat these guys on the back too for what they have accomplished so far and what they're working on currently. Things have come a long way in the last few years here on GOG both as a store and a gaming service platform and the future looks brighter every day.

I see your point, but I agree with LootHunter here. Let's be honest, the ability to copy and paste text in Galaxy IS more important than an FPS counter.
I know this is a matter of opinion to some extent, but I'm positive the significantly larger portion of the community would prefer copying and pasting over an FPS counter.

You are right in that the Galaxy team can't work on everything at once, but they need to "feel" what features are so basic they're featured in every application of its type (like copy-pasting being in every application for browsing web pages or other documents) and what features can wait.

That's a valid albeit entirely subjective opinion. I personally would rank "screenshot capability" and "FPS counter" (both overlay related features) as higher than copy-n-paste in the forums. That is a subjective opinion also of course, but my rationale in terms that matter to me personally (and maybe nobody else) is that I can use Firefox or Chrome to visit the GOG forums right now and have working copy n paste, as well as opening a dozen or more forum threads into individual tabs so forum management is a much better experience in a standard web browser right now, not to mention Barefoot Essentials and Adalia Fundamentals further improving the user interface in the forums beyond the stock GOG defaults. However, I do not have an easy way to get screenshots or FPS counter in GOG games right now without launching them from Steam and that breaks Galaxy related functionality such as game time tracking and potentially achievements as well.

So there's an easy workaround for the copy/paste problem, and no easy workaround for lack of screenshot/FPS counter in Galaxy which doesn't also cause other loss of functionality.

Once again, all subjective but that's what my priority would be to see. GOG is currently focused a fair bit on getting the basic overlay functionality working so they've already taken steps necessary for screenshots and FPS counters, however neither of those specific features have been mentioned specifically as "coming soon" yet either so they may or may not appear when the overlay launches. I'd put a rather large wager that "working screenshot capability" out ranks "copy and paste in the forums" in the eyes of the wider user base, but that's pulling assumptions out of my ass as there's no actual way to measure it on either side of the debate. :)

I'd say using FRAPS is an example of such an alternative.
Hey guys,

we've just released Galaxy version 1.1.13. It's been nearly two months since last version, but as you can see the changelog is quite big:)

Here are the changes (i think) you might like the most:

We've introduced installation of third-party dependencies only once, not per game, but per computer. That means if two games requires DirectX, Visual C++ Redistributable for Visual Studio 2012 etc., it will be installed only once :) But don't worry, if anything goes wrong, verify/repair will always install/reinstall those.

We've made a change so that Galaxy will no longer start game updates, while you are playing a game. For now there is no way to change this behavior in settings, but in nearest future we will make it controllable:)

You might as well enjoy links to store, forum and support in the "More" dropdown menu on game page for faster navigation.

Games waiting for release will show release date (if available) instead of "not compatible" status.

And... last but not least, we've greatly improved rendering of fonts on Windows:)

Thanks for the update. Disappointing to see that the settings window still looks straight out of Windows 95.
