1. For GOG games installed using installers from the last few months (so called Galaxy-compatible installers)
Click the Galaxy logo button on top of the sidebar and select "scan and import folders" - it will find all compatible games within that folder and add them to the Client.

2. For remaining GOG game INSTALLATIONS
Find the game in the Library (click on the image of the game), then click the More button and select "Manage Installation" -> "Import folder" and point the folder selector into the folder where that game is installed.

Changelog 1.1.15 (September 7th, 2016):

For everyone who has a problem with missing api-ms-crt dlls in Client's versions post 1.1.5:
Please install one of those windows update: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2999226 https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3118401
You may need to update Windows to meet the requirements for these:
For Windows 8.1 and for Windows Server 2012: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2919355
For Windows 7 and for Windows Server 2008 R2: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/976932

You can also try reinstalling Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables 2015 (x86) if you meet above requirements.

Answering this question: Why 1.1 doesn't work after updating to 1.2?

This is happening probably due to incompatible database from version 1.2, please delete this folder:
%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\GOG.com\Galaxy\storage
usually
C:\ProgramData\GOG.com\storage\

Then you'll have to use scan&import (menu under the top Galaxy logo) function to see your games back in Galaxy Client.

My experience is GOG downloads about the same speed as Steam. Now I'm not sure the exact size, but the game only requires 10 GB for hard-drive space for uncompressed files, factoring in compression... probably 6 to 8 GB is a good bet.

When the game releases at 1PM tomorrow, I want to know if the Galaxy client will just start downloading it or if I have to click the button, because I have a job, and it'll be kind of sucky if I get home and then am looking at a 40GB download or whatever it is. It'd be really nice if the client would just start the download when it's able to.
Ah, in that case no. Galaxy won't automatically install a game, just auto-update (whether it is pre-load or released). I'm not aware of any game platform that will automatically install a game when it is released unless the game has a pre-load option that the user has chosen to manually install ahead of time though.

Having said that, I think there might be a way to cause Steam to install a game on one's computer remotely (I seem to remember reading about it somewhere, but I can't be sure), but Galaxy does not offer such functionality at the moment.

Update: I can confirm that Steam allows remote install of games on a remote PC, so long as Steam is running on that PC, and the person logs into Steam via the website on a remote computer - they can initiate an install onto the computer that is running Steam. This seems like a reasonable feature for GOG to implement in Galaxy in the future perhaps as well.

Actually it's even less that I thought. Only 2.6 GB... which actually isn't that hard to believe sense it's all procedurally generated.

I might use Galaxy for a single game (No Man's Sky) to get the expected updates a lot quicker and I have a question for more experienced users. Does Galaxy scan for other GOG games automatically? I don't want it to touch my other games at all.

When Galaxy is first installed it does a scan for GOG games in the default install location. If you have installed games elsewhere I don't think it looks for nor finds them by default but I can't easily confirm that myself. The only other time it scans for games is if you manually choose "scan folders" in which case it only scans the subdirectory you tell it to.

If Galaxy ever lists any of your GOG games as installed which you do not want to show up in Galaxy for some reason, you can simply search your GOG game install directories in Windows explorer for "goggame*.info" and delete all of the files that are found except for the one(s) for games you want to show up in Galaxy. Galaxy recognizes games as being installed in your library based on the existence of these files, however it does not look for them itself except when it is first installed or when you choose scan-folders yourself manually.

One more thing worth noting about this, is that Galaxy does have auto-updates turned on globally by default with no way to disable it. As such, when it is first installed, any games it does detect with its scan in the default install folders it will attempt to verify the authenticity of the files to ensure they're not corrupted. It will then download any differences it finds, as well as any game updates, a fresh updated goggame*.info file for the game, and possibly the game's dependencies such as DirectX, PhysX, or other game redistributables. This could cause problems for some people if they purposefully run a non-current version of the game for some reason, or if they have modded the game. There is no way to globally disable auto-updates and there may never be one.

You can manually disable auto-updates on a game by game basis, but you can't do it before Galaxy has had a chance to already scan the game and attempt to update it so be warned if you mod your games or otherwise have a good personal reason to not update them to current, as Galaxy can and will hose that. Keep in mind too that this is just the current state of Galaxy at the moment, and not likely the way GOG intends for it to be forever. Also keep in mind though that it has been this way for two years and is probably unlikely to change any time soon IMHO, so if you want to play it safe be sure to make backups of your installed game directories in case you need to restore them after Galaxy overwrites the game with updated files etc.

Another way to do it possibly might be to temporarily rename your game installation directory by adding a bunch of underscores to the prefix, install Galaxy, then install No Man's Sky. Rename/move your old game dir back into place, having bypassed Galaxy's scan. Just make sure you never tell it to "Scan Folders" in the future or it will find all of your games and auto-add them all later, then forcibly update them all.
GOG client is constantly doing a lot of I/O writes even when it's not updating or downloading any updates.

To me that sounds like controlling a computer remotely. Aren't you just describing opening applications on a remote computer? For example, with remote desktop software? I would think applications on a remote computer would be agnostic of how the mouse clicks are inputted into the OS.

No, Steam must already be running on the computer. When you tell it to install via web browser on another computer, Steam knows all of the computers connected to your account at that time and simply can send the installation request to the Steam client running on the PC at home.

As skeletonbow states, the steam client is already running there, and listens to the service provider for events telling it to install software. The user logs into the same account and expresses that they want a system which is already running steam, already logged in as their own account to install a specific thing at their account owns. The client on the remote machine listens to these events, and performs the install.

There is some risk here obviously, but also a lot of convenience. It's much more significant for those with slower internet links.

Ah, I think I understand. I didn't realize the significance of the part about simultaneous logins. So a person traveling by car, the city bus, a bicycle, or simply walking is the "remote desktop application" instead of software over an internet connection. And that is aided by Steam's servers coordinating logins (that don't automatically log out) from multiple computers over the Internet. Hmm, I guess that could be a nifty feature when managing such software on more than one computer inconveniently distanced from one another.

Edit: Though, I'm having a tough time thinking how I'd get myself in such a situation. Somebody somewhere must be benefitting from it.

Thank you, that assures me I'm understanding it, and very clearly put. And I didn't think about slower internet connections as a factor.

I would really appreciate if we can view our game library shelves offline. It looks so much better than the panel on the left and Steam allows for their grid view library to be viewed offline regardless if a game is installed or not. I really hope gog considers this.
