StingingVelvet: Yeah, never seen a limit on deactivation before... that's truly terrible. Call me insane but that is worse than Ubisoft's DRM.
avatar
Navagon: Given that UbiDRM allegedly no longer has an always online requirement it seems like we have a hands down winner. Not that Starforce hasn't consistently been a serious contender for the title throughout its existence.

Another thing that retains its title as the outright worst in its field is fucking Impulse. No surprises there though.
Eh, I'd say GMG is worse than Impulse. On the other hand, I've onlyc acquired Galciv 2 from Stardock.

Kabuto: Starforce officially reclaims it's cherished spot of offering the worst drm schemes on the planet with that scheme.
Well, 1C used to use securom, now they implement "starforce frontline". Looking at starforce's web pages tells a lot about what these *** are. I don't know what's the worst actually : those limited activations/deactivations or the way they tell "if your software is protected with starforce version x.xx, well, that is not compatible with windows 7 / with 64 bits OS and there is no solution..." Meaning that the copy protection means that the use of the software granted by your licence may be terminated by a third party to the licence agreement, while the licence does not mention it clearly.

Supcom2's Metacritic rating says 77 but the User rating says 61, from 666 users ... a little too foreboding for me I think xD

GMG is designed from the ground up to be pretty bad DRM-wise though. You either accept that about it or you avoid it like the plague. I only use it because my 1p investment in their service has, through cunningness, got me quite a few games.

Impulse on the other hand just keeps on getting fucked up the arse simply because they don't give enough of a toss about their customers to stop it from happening. Their gamers' bill of rights just adds insult to injury these days.

Oh and at least GMG uses SecuROM. Not bloody Starforce.

Those ratings are largely from people who wanted a game more like the first one. SupCom 2 is a pretty good C&C clone. A fun game when that's what you see it as. It's no spiritual successor to TA though. Not at all.

It deserves to be knocked though. Not because it's a bad game, but because it's a C&C clone in a sea of C&C clones when its predecessors were something more unique.

Direct2Drive

Weekend deals, we all love them. Use the code: hailtothechief to get 20% off any game (US) Our European friends can use the code: vatfree to get the same deal.
Steam Weekend Deal Civilization 5 - 40%, Civ 4 complete - 75%

My heart skipped a beat but sadly only 40% :(

EU screwed again. The code says it all: vatfree. VAT is added to EU and UK games by default while taxes are not to north america. So while we actually save 20%, Eu/UK just save the tax.
Civ 4 complete for $7.5 = instabuy

Does anyone know if what the "3rd Party Software" is for Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light?
Steam.

It's a Steamworks title.
Wait a bit just in case they sell it for much cheaper on Steam itself.

I am planning on it, but D2D has it for 7.50 although I am not sure if their 20% off is stackable. but if it is, that would take it close to 6.00.

Thanks everyone for the heads up on it being SteamWorks.

Yes they are stackable. However, there's a good chance Guardian of Light will be 75% off on steam in the next few days which is $3.74
