StingingVelvet: And the European economy is different from the US economy, which is different from the Chinese economy, and on down the line. You can't just convert the price to dollars and expect to see $50 every time, the world doesn't work like that and it's a very ignorant view of world economics.

Region-based pricing is pretty much essential, the internet doesn't make that no longer the case.

Coelocanth: Actually, with respect to digital distribution, the internet is precisely what makes that no longer the case. It costs nothing to duplicate the game in a digital format so costs of packaging, distribution, and shipping no longer apply.
Don't European countries get charged VAT taxes among other stuff with digital sales? Doesn't that account for the higher price in those regions?

I'm not arguing. Go on a UK IP and try to buy some games. Better yet set the region to Romania. There is no way on earth a game is worth double in another country.
Guys? Keep in mind that this is about Gaming DEALS, not about economy, piracy, personal opinions or mushrooms?

Virama: I completely disagree.

What about Australia and NZ? $100-120 for new release games when in the US it's easily half the price at launch?

Nup, that's just fucked. I would do the Asia route anytime if it didn't mean I get it revoked. End of story.

This is why I use Steam, go to EB games every week and scrounge around for the cheapest deals and shop around online.

I also never buy a game on launch. I mean, seriously, would YOU? For a HUNDRED DOLLARS? SCII was released here for $120!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There is a very clear difference between supporting companies and taking it all the way up the ass until it pops out of your mouth. I prefer to shop smart.
amen brother. EB Games rarely has good deals. Ozgameshop is where I go now, who else would offer Civ 5 for $40 on launch?

It's based on regional economy as much as it is availability though. The internet doesn't automatically make the cost of living in Taiwan the same as in California.

Anyway, this is a subject most people outside the US seem to take very personally and they avoid facts in arguments about it. For that reason I usually abstain from the debate, and will do so again here. Besides, as someone said this is not the thread for it.
Interesting current debate and deserves its own thread. I like browsing this one for game deals.

But really it's a no brainer as to why people are going digi more so than hard copy nowadays.
