Should I install origin for the free wing commander? I will have to install it again anyway if In the future I want to play titanfall (got bored of it in 2 weeks after buying).
Just feels kinda dirty to have on my pc. Like having a folder full of dark weird porn or something.

Noooooooooooooo! Just feels kinda dirty to have on my pc. Like having a folder full of dark weird porn or something.
Just read the EULa before you do anything!
This link and this link!
I really want Dead Space 2, but I'll wait for Steam to have a sale, because I can ignore Origin as long as I don't go multi-player.

CptFandango: These articles are from a couple of years ago, have they not made the spying optional on install or removed them since?
From what I've gathered, reading about it myself, they've made it more unobtrusive, but the relevant clauses are still in there wherein they can still look through the rest of your computer and gather information. Also, people have still been banned with no real recourse of appeal because of remarks, and/or false positives. E.g. people using programmes that have been marked as cheating programmes by Origin, but aren't really.
I'll try and dig up where I found this information from as well.

Not quite the same thing, but this shows the company's policy on DRM, and also a standard clause in any EULA is that they're allowed to change things without advance notice.
If they're still putting out DRM, what's to stop them from changing things back, and hoping people don't notice now that Origin's been around for a while. I mean, who really reads a EULA every time they buy a new game from the same company?

I had origin installed anyway for titanfall but I formatted my pc a while ago and have been avoiding putting it on. Wing commander 3 comes off on the 11th I think anyway so thats a bit of time to think about it :)
Edit : I just got an email of an order confirmation so I think I have it but still dont have to install origin untill i decide to play it :) (not before offer expires)

They're also big enough asshats that they've been voted "Worst Company in America" 2 years running ('12 & '13) by Consumerist. Read the Forbes article I linked to for a list of the flubs they committed only last year and think seriously about what a company like that would be willing to do. :/

Origin doesn't look at your PC more than any other program out there. People panicking about that is the reason why we have all these pop-ups telling us that websites use cookies now.

Yeah, people are focusing on EA, because they've made more highly visible and publicized faux pas than uPlay or Steam, but like BioWare said, DRM isn't the way. I just wish the more games companies would start getting the message. Having yet another form of DRM on your system is, IMO, another nail in the coffin.

How "legal" is an EULA?
End User License Agreement sounds rather informal. And most of the times it's just something like "if you fuck with us we'll fuck you ". However, in games translated to spanish EULA is translated to "Contrato de Licencia de Usuario Final", which, literally, means End User License Contract.
Maybe it's just me, but this little detail has always bugged me.

That reminds me of returns policies over here. The sale of goods act 1979 makes most of them illegal. For most electrical goods if they don't last five years then they are not fit for purpouse and are entitled to a refund or repair. But shops say they have a 1 year manufacturers guarantee and after that your screwed if you dont buy the extended warranty. I exchanged a four year old graphics card this way.
